I think everyone's on agreement that it was pretty atrocious, save a certain few biodrones who will shovel hate onto all forms of criticism.
The standard response from all Hatedrones.

yeah that was a very stupid line
also "we don;'t need to think about strategy or tactics, this is about survival"
How the **** are you going to use strategy or tactics against DOZENS OF REAPERS?!
It's about survival. About getting as many people into some form of shelters as possible to hold out until something more long term can be put into effect...
Anderson knows the deal. He said it himself, he knows Humanity can't win regardless of how much of the ALliance they sacrifice to the grinder simply because of how gigantic the invasion is. So, survive until they do have a chance.

Dude, cheesy dialogue is part of the mass effect experience. Just look at Jacob: without the priiiize, nobody would even remember he existed.
Now, Benezia on the the other hand....

Maybe he should have said that. Not to mention it's a strategy anyway.

Battle of the citadel begs to differ.

Strategy would denote you have a chance to fight. You don't. The only thing you can do is survive. Nothing on the planet has a chance of bring down a Reaper except possibly a nuclear missile, and that's likely just going to have the affect of giving one an itch.
She literally had the worst lines in the entire franchise. Then they had Liara go and repeat them. So embarrassing.Spaghetti_Ninja wrote...
She is definitely the worst VO in the entire franchise. I just had to turn the sound off every time she was on the screen. It was too bad.
Cheesy or not, more than half of those lines were genuinely funnydreman9999 wrote...
Where was the statement about cheesy dialoge when ME1 used it.

Man.
You're standing in front of the Commanders of the human alliance. You know that the fate the galaxy may lie in their actions. They are visibly bricking it when they ask you what to do.
They are not asking for a detailed plan of action.
They weren't asking shepard to whip out little models and start planning a strategic campaign. They were asking for hope and for resolve. And they were asking the one person who just might be able to give it to them.
They were asking for "We few we lucky few", or at a pinch "We will not go quietly into the night". But this is a computer game and we've got to get a move on, there is shooting to do and exposition to dodge, so boil that down into one line and what you have is, well, "We fight or we die."

You are not always going to have great dialog. Some is bad and some is good and it varies by opinion. I personally thought the line was trying to be dynamic but failing somewhat. Better would have been we try to hold them off until we can get help from the council, because the whole galaxy is next. it doesn't have as much bravado though. It sounds more tactical though.

Some poeple just cannot fathom that there are times, when startegy or tactics are not going to change anything. Nor are they really viable.
Shepard is facing an enemy whom no one knows. Vigil said it himself, they are incomprehensible. They are older and more advanced. They are more powerful. They are not human in any sort of way. Any reference point is lost. You build strategy from your knowledge of the enemy. You plan ahead and predict next moves.
How do you do that when you have no friggin clue about the enemy? And Shepard is the one who knows the most about them, but even he/she doesn't know enough to formulate a plan, not in the blink of an eye anyway.
People cannot accept that this does not mean Shepard will not use tactics or strategy later.
Or people just like to hate.
I think it's the latter mostly.

S/he already did. The problem isn't the sentiment of the line, but the execution. There are a lot of ways for her/him to have expressed that idea without sounding like a complete plonker. You have to fight or you'll die? Fascinating, Shepard, tell me more.
