Mass Effect has had cheesy lines all the way through people are just nitpicking about a new game. Shepard is like the king/queen of cheesy speeches such as the speech on the Normandy in ME1 or the speech before the Suicide Mission in ME2 it's just part of the charm.

And let's not forget Wrex's obsession with eating people "you're right they're actually going to let me eat you" or "they're fools you should eat them!" etc etc

It's goofy Sci Fi and it's fun.

I just thought the entire opening scene was cheesy. Shepard gets led to this committee meeting, Ashley comes out like she got grilled inside, Vega tell Shepard good luck like he/she is going to get grilled.

You go inside and all you get is the

Committee: OMG, what could be coming.
Shepard: It's the reapers.
Committee: what are we going to do.
Shepard: Nothing
Committee: How do we stop them
Shepard: We fight or we die

I thought it was terrible. Everyone in the room just sniveling, cowering, babies. Just made the Alliance out to be weak an completely lost from the moment you entered the room. Should have been a mixture of scared, angry, calm, etc.

Mistakes in the first game don't justify making them again in the sequel, let alone making even more "mistakes".

Reaper invasion starts.

Shephard: Hey Harby look - people what a long drawn dialogue about planing to deal with well you guys."

Harbinger: Wait..you have been knowing for years we coming and now that we're here you want to plan?

Shepard" Hey don't blame its not me I tried but you know the fans.

Harbinger: Oh those guys... well okay. Yeah sure we'll hold the invasion off  for lets say any 1 hour of gameplay time.. .that should be enough.

Shepard: Yeah that should cover it. So Reaper Invasion to resume in a hour.

Harbinger: Yeah - me and guys here we'll go grab something to eat... saw a nice ramen standing on the way here. *to the rest of the Reaper Fleet* Guys I know we have wait 50,000 years for this but see the fans want a planing session soo we going to take a 1 hour recess and start around say 3 ish.... cool?

But... why would Reapers go for ramen?
Because (ME2) it's a delicacy? :P

Sure, Mass Effect has had some cheesy dialogue in the past, but seldom did I feel anything was out-of-place as I did with the 'we fight or die' bit.

That being said, I'm not that worried, it's only one moment that seemed awkward.

Wrex saying "It's too dangerous" with serious/worried tone is worst ever.

I could understand him saying "I don't want to wreck our ride" or something that doesn' t make it sound like Wrex is actually worrying about his own safety. But I dont expect we hear stuff like that thorough the game so it's fine.

Whatdo you think he should of said? He has no tactic that would stop the reapers on hand.

*The atlus spots it.

*It shoots it down before it lands.

there's so much s/he knows and s/he just says "we fight or we die", yeah . . . . real useful information, tells us exactly nothing (maybe we shouldn't have made you an officer if thats your plan)

I feel you've misunderstood the question, presumably on purpose because dissapointment is sort of a currency here and seems to be sought at every opportunity.

They are visibly scared people asking for comfort, not detail.

Nuance: it's an important part of the language.

Exactly.

Every claim of bad dialogue I've heard has been taken entirely out of context. Why might Wrex be acting more cautious than usual? It's not like the fate of his race is at stake? Oh wait, it is.

The defense committe had to years to come up with all sorts of plans insted they just shoved there heads in the sand and pretended everything was fine and now they want a plan well is to late the reapers are here if there is some kind of plan will have to make it up as we go it's ''do or die time''.

Another problem with the line is that it doesn't really makes sense. You can also die fighting, weird that Shep didn''t think about that, he saw this at least one time at Virmire.

you know what that line the shepard says to the committee makes perfect sense, because guess what you have no choice but to fight the reapers or die

The Reapers are HERE.. not coming, not on the way. not around the corner, or just over yonder. they are  here... the time for planning is gone.. done.. toast.

Backs against the wall and there is no place to run..

you Fight or stand get a dragon tooth up the ass.

That's the problem. "...OR die." Implicates kinda that no one would get harmed if they fight which is kinda untrue. It sounds like the choice between doom or an action that makes you invincible.

The only "weird" part for me, is when they help the wounded soldier and Anderson says: "Stay here son, we'll get you out of here".
Well, he could be saying the "stay here son" to the other soldier, but the way he says both lines side by side, it's kind of... confusing?

Yes, the ME series is rife with cheesy dialogue. While I'd love to see BW take the writing up a notch, the reality is cheesy dialogue has long been a staple of this series (and the sci-fi genre in general). Maybe BW is parodying this tendency?

No - that is not what is implicated...  what is implicated is  this... you sit on ass  and die for sure or..

you  can fight and  at least a  have small chance... might die  or some will die is better than all die...

Nobody here is stupid... voilence and fighting  always carries of the risk of death even in a controlled  setting like Boxing or MMA.

Even posting the BSN carries  the risk dying from a  BSN induced aneurism

My issue is with auto dialogue.

ME1 > Had some auto dialogue but not very heavy handed approach and almost always was only just prior to dialogue choices which followed as part of the same conversations. Its use of auto response was minimal and not very often.

ME2 > Every interaction I recall you have choices before speaks to them to set tone of reply and context even if not complete content explained in the choice after made.

ME3 > Extreme use of auto dialogue where forced canon generic responses imprinted upon your Shepard spent last two titles shaping and developing a persona. The choices no longer apply as you are not given a choice for each interaction anymore if the demo is anything to go by your input and interaction with your Shepard has become minimal with regard to dialogue control, the dialogue is out of character dependent on your persona created and it removes control and destroys immersion because of its heavy use.

Now granted I only have the demo to rely on for this now the heavy use of dialogue being forced replies prior to given choices and sometimes with no choices given at all.

Which is why chosse your own adventures usually don't work well as methoded of telling character driven narrative because you'll run right into this problem and some is going to pissed that their Shepard is not acting the way they want him or her  too.
