  • MassEffect2Launcher.exe = v1.01
  • MassEffect2Config.exe = v1.03
  • System info:
  • Intel® Core™ i3 CPU         530  @ 2.93GHz
  • Clock Speed = 2936 MHz, RAM = 2,99 GB
  • NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT,  VRAM=1,00 GB, Dirver Ver. = 191.07 (update give me problems, gonna try using diver robot)
  • HD Audio rear output 2, Driver Ver. = 6.0.1.7400
  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 (5.1.2600)
  • DirectX 9.0c (Mar2009) or later
  • What is my problem:
The problem is rare, i don't even know how to explain it or if it even happen to other people.

The actual problem is caused by another problem related. Cut to the chase:

This problem happened to me since i have ME 2, when i started the last mission (use the Omega 4 Relay) while not using graphics on very low settings, the game seemed to "override" the VGA driver, i mean, it was like i didn't have it, the game started running like a 1 FPS, very slow, and in some cases, a green screen.

Like i said, then the VGA driver it was kind of missing, also the DirectX. I try to run other games but i got "DirectX is not installed" errors or very low FPS, VERY.

It was easly solved, just reinstall de driver and that was all. But yesterday, the problem just got serious.

Before, just reinstalling the driver solved that problem. Now i can't even got to the menu playing on Fullscreen. I think it is something related to the game itself, somethimes i got the blue screen and other just an error sound an a black screen. I can't do anything btw, ALT+TAB does nothing as ALT+CTRL+SUPR.

I can't understand what or why this problem happens to me, or if anyone has the same, searched it like 5 times but nothing.

Hope you can help me.

Does your version of the Geforce Driver give you the option to require the 9400 GT card? Part of what you are saying sounds a great deal as if the Intel i3 video chip is getting in the way, although I don't get the connection to having Direct3D giving false reports, so there must be more to it than just a conflict between a poor quality video chip and the APIs in DirectX9.

You're right that if anyone else ever had this, I certainly didn't see any such report, and I've visited here since before the game's release.

Sorry, i just don't know so much about how a graphics card work, just know basics.

I just need to know what do you mean by "require the 9400 GT card"

It's a shot in the dark, but nVIDIA drivers now "switch" from one to the other based on how much demand there is for 3D quality. I stopped using Geforces, so I can't describe what you would do, other than it's part of the "Properties" of the statrup shortcut.

You can ask that at the nVIDIA support forums, while describing the trouble with DirectX to them.

So i have to check the propeties and look for some kind of option wich mean that allows other graphic or something?

If it isn't that, please explain a little bit more. And i'm not really sure about their tech sup, will think of that like some kind of last resource.

EDIT: I will update my driver using driver robot since the update they gave me in nVidia just got me problems.

EDIT 2: While updating the driver, something draw my attention:

The driver said "v.197.0" but the update was the same ver. I'm starting to think that "override" actually bugged my driver, it was still the updated version, but i was installing an old version. Still not sure why that only happened with ME2 and even with ME3 demo, for e.g, i have GTA IV and with the driver reinstall it solved the problem also.

Still, i don't know what to search exactly on the control panel of my VGA to fix this, because i'm sure this will eventually gonna happen again when i beat the game again.
