Am I alone here that agree with the 'randomness' in packs?

Don't you think it's just the strategy that Bioware uses to keep the MP alive and crowded as long as it can?

I mean if you want something you have to keep playing it right? That means more people playing at times. Also, it presents the variety of classes and races to everyone. I'd never played all of the class, but because it's kinda limited now, I tend to try all of them. If everyone gets to be anything. I think the team roster would end up the same every game, and people would get bored early.

RNG works in some applications but in a class based system you end up getting a bunch of garbage you dont use. This type of RNG is because of a lack of balance in the weapons, certain weapons perform 100x better than others thus they have been made rare to force diversity.

I like it.

I read a post someone made a while ago about how instead of grinding for specific things, you need to play your game based on what you have available. You're forced to adapt and change it up to what you get, rather than just grinding you way to level up your favourite weapon.

Its frustrating as hell sometimes but when you get something that you know is going to work for you its oooohhhh so sweet.

I agree with Krogan, keeps me guessing what im about to get, most of the time it ends up being a damn scimitar. That isn't the reason why i keep going back to MP, the reason is its just so damn addictive and fun. I thought i was going to get quite bored with it rather quickly because it be like horde from GOW (which i hate with a passion).

After unlocking numerous races, I had a LONG drought of only unlocking guns and customization options. Finally last night I unlocked an Asari Adept and I love it. I recently had over 100,000 credits and bought a ton of Veteran Packs, I kid you not. Not ONE good weapon upgrade, no Locust, no Claymore, no Turian and no Salarian. It sucks but that's how it is.

Good thing I love the MP.

IMO they need to balance it out, at first I thought it was a good idea but after several hours in I still don't have any alien races unlocked despite buying 10 packs. For me one possible solution would be to add a middle option in the store that would guarantee at least one character class so there less "randomness".

I like the system too. It keeps the game fresh and interesting on top of the fun gameplay. Bioware really has here something in the multiplayer. I hope that they continue building upon on it like Valve does with TF2.

The reverse is true, if people are forced to grind too much they get bored and stop playing. Also you will see more humans and very little aliens, so much so that most often than not that you will see the entire team as fully human or three humans with one alien. Or a rare case, two humans and two aliens.

I'm pretty sure all the races are gold items (rare), so you're never guaranteed to get them with a Veteran Pack. The full game will have a pack that guarantees a gold item (although you could get a weapon as well), but it should improve the chances of getting a race.

I haven't seen the opposite gender unlocks for the human characters, so I'm assuming they just didn't include them in the demo :P.

the sticky is kind of comforting (http://social.biowar...3/index/9326176) but as it stands right now with just 2 packs... the grinding feels like WoW raiding (or any mmo instancing for that matter). you can farm for months on end and you'll never get that item you want / need which is frustrating if not out right boring

I had a team of a Quarian (me), Salarian, Turian and Asari today. A team of Krogan (me), two Turians and a Drell. It's rare seeing teams of 4 aliens but it does happen.

Both were successes on Silver btw, which makes it all the more awesome. I also had a team where I was an Asari but I forget which race everyone was. I think there was only one Human Vanguard though.

Randomness is not the problem. It's the fact that alien races are absolutely the rarest reward in the packs. Not only that, the chance of unlocking ANY kind of a character (no matter human, alien) is also very small, let alone an alien. This was supposed to be one of the main draws of ME's multiplayer system, yet unless you're VERY lucky, you may as well forget about playing as alien race. I've bought like 10 Veteran and 10 Starter packs already. Not a single alien race was there and like I've said, even human classes were VERY rare. most of the time I don't get any new class at all. And all the human classes I got were the ones that are unlocked from the beginning. And what I see from other players confirms it. I've seen tens (if not hundreds) of humans already, but only 2 Quarians, 1 Turian & 1 Drell and 1 Krogan.

They've majorly overdid the extreme rarity of alien races (and new classes/races in general).

I'd be happier if there was more variety. I really want to get the Asari Vanguard, but I've gotten the female human vanguard so much I think I'm gonna go crazy.

It's fine, but the drop rate for rares in the demo is exceedingly low, and there are so many repeats. I already have level 5+ on all of my weapons. My Scimitar is at level 8. Problem is, I don't use the Scimitar often. So some people are just upset that their credits were wasted. I don't mind it, as I play Magic: The Gathering, so I'm used to opening things I don't want/need. It's still nice though for when I /do/ decide to use those items.

On my friend's account I'm level 60 in game with only Adept and Vanguard max out at 20, but i already got krogan soldier, asari adept, drell vanguard, quarian engineer, turian sentinel, and salarian infiltrator. I even got 3-4 customisation for them. So, i think it's just a matter of randomness.

As much as I love the multiplayer for Mass Effect 3, I'll admit that the random packs slightly irritate me when it comes to unlocking the alien races. I've purchased over thirty packs and have only received snipers, shot-guns, attachments for weapons I'll never use, and so many different humans I'm beginning to think ME3 is taking the "Humans are stronger than they ever were in the galaxy" thing a little too seriously. Hell, I've been hoping for a Turian to appear in one of my packs since the day I downloaded the demo, and now I'm just getting sick of playing as a human over and over again and rarely ever seeing an alien that isn't an Asari.

Something else I'm a little annoyed about (though it's a bit of a small problem depending on your views) is the slight lack of raced. When I read "Play as every race", I was expecting everything from Batarians to Geth. So far the demo only shows six races, so I'm hoping they add the remaining races upon full release, if not, as a future DLC. However, this also goes for the Quarians. After revealing the male Quarians in ME2, why would the race be gender-locked to female for the ME3 multiplayer? I can only hope the male's will be added later.

I think the randomness of unlocking characters is ridiculous.

I played for 4 hours yesterday with my friends, and another 4 hours this evening, and I 've only unlocked a Krogan and a Salarian.

Me? I vote that they increase the character drops from the package, because at this point, at this rate, I 'm going to assume that it'd take a month to unlock all the races for the MP, and probably a week or two for one class. Like I said, I think it's pretty ridiculous.

Honestly guys. Don't let this ruin your opinion of the multiplayer. It's great fun and even I roll a human once in awhile even though I now have 4 alien races. Plus it's only a demo. There's only two packs. There is bound to be more in the full game that at least guarantees you one rare card.

Also, if you don't get a race in the demo, think of it as a fresh experience for the full game. Kinda like how only one class for each race is available. BioWare wanted to keep SOME of the game fresh.

No offence but yeah, I figured this thread would be made by someone who got lucky with the packs. You wouln't be saying the same thing if you didn't get a single alien character for like 20 packs

If it makes you feel any better, Drell Vanguard is quite fun. Image IPB
