There are people out there who understand flanking, right?

Unless there's a vanguard or someone with a widow on the team, I seem to be the only guy who can actually take out phantoms...because they always kill me from behind after my teammates get knocked out not covering their flanks.
Anyone else having a similar experience? I'm playing on Silver btw, and while the people there are generally ok overall, they get too fixated on points instead of winning the mission.

Lacking the ability to talk to your teammates (the Collector's Edition oughta come with a mic really), the only option you really have is to do the flanking yourself. It's a pain, yeah, but that's just the way things are.

Yeah. Any creature that is assigned to block a creature with "flanking" gets -1/-1 until end of turn.
What is so hard about that?

9/10 games I have been in, partners always do the same old, same old - they run from place to place trying to max kills and headshots with the sniper rifle or biotics so they can get the highest score. These are the same people who cost me game after game, leaving corridors and the like exposed while I'm fighting an entire side by myself. I keep getting killed from behind because of these geniuses. Not that I'm perfect or anything, but jeeze, how hard is it to provide cover for squadmates?

My favourite is when you need to defend a location on a hack mission. There is always one guy who charges off to get kills (and usually gets killed).
I make it a point of not ressing them.

Now that kind of stuff I can easily tell just by common sense is a really bad idea. Yeah, I'd be too busy guarding the hack procedure to res them too.

1.) Find 'em
Spot the enemy and ensure your allies know of their location, as well as a loose idea of their numbers.
2.) Fire 'em
Lay down suppressing fire (or abilities) to force your enemies to take cover. If they are suppressed, their ability to move and fire back will be greatly limited.
3.) Flank 'em
While maintaining suppressing fire, send some squadmates around, preferably so that you make a 90 degree angle. The idea is that the flanking team has cover while the targeted group does not, allowing them to take potshots at the targeted team that is behind cover to the suppressing team.
4.) Finish 'em
The flanking team makes the kill from the side.
Credits to the Brothers In Arms Series.
My brothers used this tactic at a paintball course to slaughter the opposition with few if any losses on our side for several rounds. The ref asked us if we were cops or ex-military.

Yeah, that's what I basically do on Firebase White: I get to the top of that ladder and just start plinking away at the enemy with my Avenger and biotics. Occassionally, I'll storm through the landing pad and fire off throw or stasis, depending on the enemies there. Most of the time that's because the team is getting killed, they have a decent grasp on the enemies in other places, there's only three guys playing (including me), or I'm the last one standing and I need somewhere where I can stand a chance of lasting out the wave..Yuoaman wrote...
I flank when it's appropriate, a lot of times I just sit back and snipe at the enemy though, it's really effective at making them stay in one area.

So the OP complains his team mates dont protect him? But, have you tried to cover them for a change? Teamwork, any teamwork, is all about compromises. If everyone will insist in doing his own thing, no teamwork will occur, and mission will fail. These are the same people who cost me game after game. I keep getting killed from behind because of these geniuses. , how hard is it to provide cover for squadmates?
Besides. Many people actually DO flank which indeed to an unexperienced eye could be perceived as running around. Since to flank an enemy they have to.. run around him through another corridor.
the correct answer is ofc, why is the OP sitting in position where he easily can be killed from behind and why doesnt he check his environment by himself. I've seen these people. On the icy map, they are camping on a place which is down the respawn point ladder, which is the worst place to be ever, and expect people to cover them, which is ofc simply impossible. Sitting ducks.
