I try to... but since most people lack the ability to communicate its hard, but my asari adept with sniper rifle is thankfully pretty well rounded to take down anything besides an atlas on her own... That said, if I get suprise visits from behind while trying to flank or covering a spawn, Im screwed in seconds mostly.
There are people out there who understand flanking, right?

Part of me wants to sum up the thread like this
We can flank if we want to.
We can leave your friends behind.
Cause' your friends don't flank,
and if they don't flank, well they're
no friends of mine
I am sorry in advance for any trauma this may cause.

I usually deliberately flank Atlas Mechs and the Guardians (the guys with the shields.)
Besides that I don't flank too much.

I try to flank as much as possible when needed and I don't mind doing it, what I find happens in matches a lot that I dislike is:
"Okay guys I got this area, they're all in a line I'll snipe as many as I can, someone cover my flank and you guys go down there and attack them from the rea- or you could all just jump down and wade into their midst... okay then, well I'll just take this shot and go round and do the flanking- oh look you Biotic Charged that guy a split second before my shot went off and it missed... and you didn't even kill him- and now they've swarmed you, and now you're all dead from the crossfire and now they're all dispersed in cover and refusing to pop out and OH GOD some new enemies are coming up behind me, Tactical Cloak bang bang bang thank god those are two are gone... OH GOD THEY'RE COMING UP THE LADDER! BANG BANG! Too many, I have to fall back to- OH GOD WHY ARE THERE GUARDIANS HERE!?"
And no matter how you Archangel it up, when there's a swarm that makes the Zerg look like a stray ant you're probably not going to make it through.
After several games of that I make it my business to flank or cover the rear even when I'm much better suited to sniping.
In my eyes Snipers ( and I don't just mean people who use Sniper Rifles) have three critical duties
-Stop enemies from getting close or open them up so squadmates in the thick can kill them (this is somewhat reliant on your squadmates letting you open them up first though :\\ )
-Watch and guard vantage points, that means providing a 'safe zone' and guarding all exits in and around it.
-Getting the multiple data packets that are away from your squad who are in the thick of things
I say all this probably sounding like I think I'm a good player, I'm not, sometimes I downright suck but I like to think that me thinking about these things and trying is somewhat redeeming.
Finally, anyone who thinks their kill percentage is > than helping the team and winning the match is an idiot, plain and simple. It's been my experience that the rewards for winning a match far exceed the potential winnings you get from maximizing your selfish potential but losing the match. Anyway if you DO contribute to the team then you should be getting plenty of kills or at least a plethora of assists anyway.

Flanking only works on Bronze and maybe Silver. On Gold if you get separated, you're dead, it's pretty much impossible to do it. So far the only good flankers I've seen are the Infiltrators thanks to their cloaking ability.

From my gameplay, it's possible for all players to effectively flank the AI. Uberly effective against pesty pair of guardians, however, it require a bit of a maneuvering which, sometimes, makes me run into somethings more than I can chew.

If you're flanking you're doing it wrong. Don't flank the enemy....protect yourselves from being flanked. I lost count of how many times the entire team on firebase white will gather at the top of the steps by the ladder and I always have to be the guy who has to watch the lower stairway inside the building alone. I mean inside that building is a perfect spot to let them funnel in for the slaughter when you're doing non objective waves but nooooooooo.....

I flank alot, I always take the same tactics on Firebase White: Stasis a Combat Engineer/Nemesis/Phantom headdown to the landing pad and Throw everything an anything off of the ridge then pull out my shotty and headd through the corridor take out the enemy stragglers. It nets me quite a few kills per wave and is a nice tactic... Oh yeah it's worth mentioning that I'm a Justicar so my Weapon Damage and Power Damage bonuses are great and fit to my play style.
