So I was on the Mass Effect wiki, and in the recent images there were pictures of a so called "Prothean Squad Mate". I might be late on the news, but what I want to know is if this Protean Squad mate and the android EDI will be DLC Squad mates or will they be already included into the game?

I can understand if EDI is a DLC, but if the Prothean is DLC content, I would be thrown off so much. How can they keep such an influential character out of the already playable game? Prothean character = solid proof to the ****** Citadel councillors that Reapers exist.

Also, I'm posting this here because the General forum doesn't allow spoilers.

Part of me wants to just accuse you of being a troll, considering how damn near *literally* everyone on this site knows of the prothean.

Part of me thinks you may be sincere.

I am sincere, unfortunately. I'm reading more into this, and I'm not trolling. Just want to confirm if he's DLC or not, because I've seen some games where the dev's were showing DLC content in trailers etc

In that case...

The CE (Back when it was announced) was leaked with the DLC titled "The Prothean -- Character and mission pack". This, coupled with the prothean's page from the new art book (Plus the recently datamined voice files for him), all but throws it in your face that he's in the game. They may/may not have changed his DLC status. Of course, you don't need the CE to get him, the associated DLC will be sold on its own, like Zaeed.

Also: there is a DLC called "From Dust" that was accidentally sold to people from a handful of retailers, I assume that's the name of the prothean's DLC.

A theory is that he will be in the game for everybody, but only available for a squadmate for people with his DLC. Again, just a theory. Other than that, DLC. Edi is in-game.

As long as he appears ingame as an interactable character, I'm fine with that. It's just the possiblity of him being a DLC restricted character, and hardly influential on the story line that concerns me. It would be a total let down if the Council still doesn't believe Shephard .. I really just want to put a few bullets into those bastards for screwing me over in Mass Effect 1 and 2.

As far as the Council is concerned... Well, that's spoilers.

Also, he's apparently african. If the datamined voice sample truely is genuine, that's some exceptionally ****ty choice for voice acting.

Maybe not. They made a cold, soulless drone like me laugh.

Oh I see...I didn't think about the "comic relief" angle! It makes sense now! Prothy is the new Chris Tucker!

So in general, bioware is gonna **** out more dlc again? why cant i get a full game for $60? Those who dont get this squadmate is gonna miss out on a possibly great storyline, and having to pay $15 for it is just unacceptable.

I don't understand how a West African accent is comical. I feel I'm really missing something about all the ‘OMG SRSLY!?’ reactions to those clips.

no one is really 100% sure if he is DLC, i hope he isn't since people without online access would miss such a interesting character

Same here. It sounds good to me. Maybe it's because these people aren't Marvel fan & not used to one of the most badass people being an African (Black Panther). Or maybe they just don't like Africans?

To be honest I expected the Prothean squadmate to sound somewhat like Vigil. Some kind of calm, mystical, transcendental kind of voice.

To me the current voice doesn't sound like an ancient, technological advanced species. In fact it doesn't sound unique at all because that's what I've pictured the protheans to be.

However his visual design is really unique and well done and he's definitely an interesting character.

We will see how it playes out in game, maybe it perfectly makes sense. Image IPB

Because it doesn't fit with what we know. The automated recording on Illos didn't have that accent, nor did Vigil when you spoke to him.

I don't plan on buying the CE, so does anyone know if the squadmate DLC will be available on release day? I'd hate to miss out on a Prothean squadmate..

Before ME2, Tali was the only quarian people had heard speak. I'm assuming then that the same people who are laughing now, also laughed when we first heard the voices of Veeter/Prazza/Reegar/other quarians?

You're aware that this DLC has been announced for a good 6 months or more, yeah?

I like how you're all just going to just sit there and take it while EAware holds back on content that will be installed on your PC or console regardless...

Has it ever occurred to anyone that the protheans may all have had different accents, in comparison to where they came from? we humans also have a large variety of accents for our languages, say for example the english language. Who is to say that the protheans shouldn't have had several different accents to speaking in that exactly same way? Saying that all protheans should sound like two voice samples from Ilos is being a little ignorant, IMO.

I don't plan on having anything to with the character if at all possible. The idea of a survivng prothean seems like a cheap cop-out to me. The mystery made them interesting. If he's DLC only, fine by me...I won't miss it.

Well, for me Tali's accent was fine simply because of her character build. You only see her suit but little details like her hands and feet made me imagine her looking like a female version of Nightcrawler minus a tail. So the choice in accent Sroka used for her wasn't as jarring.

The artwork for Prothy doesn't have the same kind of effect though, when putting the voice sample with it.

If you say so, however, voices aren't always indicative of how the character should look like.
For example: I have a 17 year-old friend who is REALLY, REALLY big, but he has the voice of a tiny skinny 10-year  old
I'm not trying to start an argument here, I'm just saying we shouldn't form our opinions yet about something we know really little about.
