If people hate this game so much and go out of their way to post a billion comments about their dislikes.......why not just trade it in, get another game, and stop wasting everyone's time and their own energy.  If it was a truly crap game...I could understand it, but it is a great game and play it in the spirit for which it is intended......story driven RPG with an incredibly immersive world.

Kudos to the guys who make fabulous games like this and take so much crap from whiners!

p.s....If you don't like DLC don't buy it and shut up.

The alternative is usually much worse. If you stop by a game forum and nobody's complaining it usually means one of two things. Either the game is dead and everyone's moved on other than the hardcore fanboys or the game is in such bad shape that they have to delete all negative threads to hide the fact that things are seriously screwed up. So be happy that people are ****ing! :P

Don't get me wrong....I am glad there is interest.  I am glad concerns are being brought forward.  But my point was that most of it was not constructive.  It really irritated me.  I am happy for all criticisms that add to improving the game.

I miss the god old Bioware forum where debates could sometimes be heated but you never found a bunch of threads like "Stamina sucks" and such, back then people could actually express themselves in a sensible and coherent manner.

ur postz is suk!

Also, I happen to agree with you.  There is nothing wrong with differring opinons, but when things devolve into namecalling and pure whining withing the first three posts you know there is something seriously wrong.

I'm quite certain that a Baldurs Gate forum wouldnt have been more positive than this one.

It wasn't. I remember the Baldur's Gate II forums just after release, there was a lot of people furious about this or that..."this is nothing compared to BG!" little things. Generally, don't take forums right after release very seriously. Yes some issues are brought to attention, but also minor problems are severly magnified or call game-breaking etc.

For reference, Mass Effect, Kotor, Morrowind, Neverwinter Nights and Baldur's Gate 2 all had the same negativity right after release, all of these games are considered, by me, to be some of the best rpg's of all time.

One of the funniest things about most of the negativity is how the game is too hard. You guys should take that as a compliment. Thanks for challenging us! All the mods so far are all about making characters stronger or carry more so it is easier to play. People are trying to dumb things down and speed up the play-through. You obviously exceeded a lot of peoples expectations and rocked a few boats as well.

I think the dust will settle soon enough. I noticed some more active moderation and there have probably been a few people removed from the forums.

There's a difference between good difficulty and fake difficulty.  The game is littered with trap choices that can seriously screw you over due to lack of balance.

I hate to play devil's advocate so transparently, but...

I think some - maybe most - of the criticism in this thread is a little unfair. Just a cursory reading of it has led me to believe that many of those bemoaning the complainers haven't actually looked at the complaint threads they deride. Truth be told, many, many so-called "whiner" posts are lengthy analyses and bulleted lists, often complete with insightful information and suggestions by people who have spent a great deal of time with the game. Some of us - myself included - have combed through the ability scripts, made changes, and playtested them, to better judge DAO's current balance scheme. Indeed, it's only been about two weeks and balance mods designed around community opinion and feedback are already seeing release.

It's a little sad to see people up in arms over the fact that many of us realize that improvement is always an option. If anything, I think of myself as an optimist. Bioware is a big boy, it can defend itself.

This is demonstrably false. Several mods exist to make the game harder; indeed, I daresay the majority (if not entirety) of balance-based and gameplay effect mods are about increasing difficulty via the implementation of potion cooldowns, nerfs to spells, adjustment upwards of enemy resists, and more. You're likely referring to armor and weapon additions, which naturally lend themselves to overpoweredness.

Its ok to post negative feedback. Sometimes we can explain why something works the way it works and we can always listen and consider ideas for our future products. It would be nice if people weren't so aggressive though, but is seems there will always be people like that in anonymous forums.

Hey this jumped out of your post...  ... always be people like that in anonymous forums.

Anonymous?  Hells Bells.  I feel like everybody is behind my back and looking over my shoulder anytime I am on your forums.  This why I never liked football.

Everytime the players huddle up on the field I know they are talking about me.   :crying:

To be fair, a certain amount of the "rage" posts in these forums have been caused by technical failures of the software.

Some people who had looked forward to getting the game and psyched themselves up to enjoy it, had believed the marketing hype, were then thwarted by an inability to install it on their systems, to register it online, to download content they had been promised, to access the servers at all, to get help from support channels and so on. Not because they were doing anything stupid or wrong, just because the system didn't work. That made them angry. It made them feel cheated.

This should not have happened, but it did. It turns out that the installer is not robust enough, the system for authenticating DLC is not robust enough and some people have fallen foul of their shortcomings. The software will be improved and patched, of course, but in the meantime the damage is done.

When you whip up a marketing frenzy and then sell a product with those kinds of shortcomings, you get angry customers.

Personally, I'm unaffected by it. But that doesn't mean it's any less real for the people whom it does affect. I don't gloat because it hasn't happened to me, I empathize with those to whom it has happened.

Some people who see something the majority likes through themselves into the antagonist role to become the center of attention. They need people to recognize their opinions and are probably lonely.

To be fair, virtually every new game forum is exactly the same. Fanboys invest an enormous amount of expectation into a game, be it because of the company making it, or because it is a sequel and when it fails to deliver in the exact way that they expect it sends them over the edge into a hissy fit.

There are still people to this day sat on GTA 4 boards whining about how San Andreas was better. It was released 18 months ago for God's sake.

Only a true fanboy will be so hurt by a game's 'betrayal' that he will never accept it. In a bizarre twist of logic, they will attack defenders of the game as fanboys for not hating the game with a passion because of some slight variation on a previous game.

No those well thought out and written threads filled with "constructive critically thought out criticisms" are welcomed and usually enjoyed.  Especialy when you can not find a statement like "before the fanboy come and rage" or "if you disagree with my opnions you are a moron/fanboy".  They are enjoyed and well debated.

To bad those threads and the posts contained with said threads are the minority.

Then there are those that just get angry because someone dares to disagree or "play devils advocate (a role I do enjoy)"  If you do not want to hear (or see in the case of online forums) opposing arguements and thoughts then you need to keep your damned mouth shut.

Hey I been playing games since Ultima IV and BioWare games since Baldur's Gate and I have to say, there is something about this one that is a cut above the others and not just in technology.

There are things in this game that *really* pull you in.

A big part of it is definitely in the story/voice acting. Characters seem very very fleshed out.

The situations are, as promised, very grey. They got rid of this whole black/white ethical crap and the only real penalty is the acceptance of your companions and they dont have to be there (most times) if you dont want them to see it unfold.

From the Landsmeet to the end, things start feeling really climactic:

Everyone pulling to your side against Loghain

Hordes of 1-shot mobs make you feel like you're at your peak of power.

The final battle speech, Ferelden's armies cheering you on into the final battle.

The final good byes before the last battle

and the chance to see everyone one last time before 'meeting your fans'

Really nice touches. Shows a lot of polish.

Anyway, none of that has anything to do with this thread. I did find it funny that after 10yrs of forum browsing, this exact type of thread is always asked, in every forum, about every single game ever made.

No, CONSTRUCTIVE criticism leads to improvement.  Being a bish just leads to being a bish and helps nobody, which is rather the point of this thread.
