Asking me to look beyond myself for the money I spend on my entertainment is truly and absolutely worthless advice. Please do inform me where I ever asked for a service?
One of the worst level-up systems in a recent game?

I'm just going to come out and say I like the random level ups. It makes each box I get really exciting.

I like the random card idea as it can be addictive to gamble and be rewarded. I like that it's different.
But for this Mp structure I would like to see a store where you can buy individual items, mods, characters, and power ups as well as the option to gamble and buy the packs. I think that would be very addicting and a less frustrating way of unlocking things.
I wouldn't go as far as saying you should unlock things by leveling up. I think that is overused and boring and I would rather have just skill points be the reward for leveling up a class. Being able to manage your credits and saving up to buy weapons would be very addicting.

Also, really the fun part is playing the actual matches themselves
I just LOVE IT when someone tries to tell me how I should be having fun.
Yes, it goes without saying that the matches are the fun part, but being able to unlock additional characters through leveling up or some other sort of gameplay would make the game more fun for me by allowing me to unlock a specific race/gender that I'm interested in.

EXACTLY.
I wouldn't mind a random pack here or there, but I didn't earn any of that. It's a luck pull. I busted my butt to get the credits, sure, but if it's entirely random, there's no real reward in that when my luck was just bad enough to pull something I wanted on the 60th box instead of the first couple.
I'm glad some people like it, I would too if it was another option and not the ONLY way to unlock things. I was really excited for multiplayer and I like playing the matches, it's everything surrounding these matches that is absolutely killing my enjoyment of it.

I agree with the OP. There needs to be a reasonable chain of cause and effect in the upgrade system. As it stands, you can spend hours grinding away without actually being rewarded (i.e. getting stuff you don't use or care about). We might tolerate it because we're ME fans and love the universe, but its going to be a detriment to bringing on new players.

I'd personally like to see a system where you could pay credits for a random weapon card / mod card / character card etc. instead of a random box of potentially anything.

I'll just say this and leave:
Lost Planet 2's system was the worst in recent memory. Not this.
