I am not sure why, but I can't hear anyone nor can I speak myself in the demo. I have set voice chat to always on, no change. Have quit, rebooted, plugged and unplugged mic, etc, all the obvious things. It's a Realtek sound card/controller.

I don't think it's enabled in the demo. I know the text chat doesn't work for sure. Never been able to get voice chat working either though.

I got a choppy snippet of chat for about 2 seconds in the middle of one mission, and that's it. I have tried every possible option in the 'Sound' section. I contacted tech support and the guy said sorry, you'll have to wait for a response on the forums.

There is a loudness threshold you have to meet before the game detects you are speaking and transmits it. Currently it seems they set it too high and you can't adjust the settings in game. In other words you have to set your recording volume and microphone boost all the way up in windows and either speak loudly or put the mic very close to your mouth in order for it to detect your are speaking and transmit when you push the talk button. I think they are aware of the issue.

I also have a problem with this. I have heard someone talking for a bit and i'm curious about, why cant i use text messages?

I think bioware should add an option to tune your microphone in game to proper settings. Steam offers that, so why cant Mass Effect offer that?

Edit1: Should "push to talk" fix that "not loud enough" or i need to go to windows sound and tinker with microphone boost and volume settings?. This tweaking is a pain in the ass.

I can hear other player but I don't know if they can hear me. It should be better if someone creates a teamspeak server for ME3, best communication for online gaming, at least there you can set the voice sensity to activate the communication.

It does work

But it sucks that there are not enough in-game options for it, and no test mode.

Try pressing Tab In the lobby and you should see the appropriate icon near your nickname if the mic works for you.

That far I've met 3 or 4 people in game who were able to use voice chat. But you know, I was unable to ask how they did that, since my mic doesn't work for some reason as well

I'm having a similar problem. My mic is working over TS, Vent and on recording software, but for some reason the demo simply isn't picking it up. Can have it on either push-to-talk or always on, and it makes not a shred of difference.

Waaay too many people seem to have an issue with voice chat. Bioware better fix this ....

If your getting a Red speaker icon, it's because of a bug in the demo. What works for my friends and I is going into the options, change your sound device to something else, exit out, then go back in and change it back to the proper device. It should hopefully work after that.

Their is also a bug where when you change your character and go into the game, you will be missing certain abilities. To fix that, you need to change your character, exit completely out of the game, and then rejoin.

i got to chat with a team today but that was the 1st time.
i have the blue icon and it activates itself when i speak so it picks my sound up .
There are videos of whole teams always talking , esp. on Gold. So the thing does work.
But as EA servers are very glitchy right now, the problem could also be at their end .
