So wait, the only way to get upgrades for the Collector Assault rifle is to buy a bunch of crap I don't need/can't afford? I can't just get it from the stupid upgrade packs? If so, that is truly disappointing.

I didn't even know there was a Collector assault rifle in the multiplayer...

It comes with promotional items such as the art of the mass effect universe, i am curious as well, will it be possible to upgrade this gun without buying every single item?

This question deserves an answer.

I'd like to think that players who register the bonus code (or have it already from ME2) will have their accounts gain access to finding duplicate CARs in packs and upgrading it.

However, there is no concrete evidence to support this.

I know I would like to have some clarification.

I'm 99% positive the upgrades will be available once you have the gun unlocked on your account. The assault rifle itself is already on the disc, as would be any upgrade for it. It's just a matter of downloading a patch that unlocks it for you.

That's how day-one promotional DLC works.

I would also like an answer to this. I would assume once you unlock it, you can upgrade like the other weapons. Otherwise, you get a cool looking weapon that is useless 5 minutes into the game. That is unless you happen to have bought an additional 9 art books or 2 each of all the Razer gear.

I was also curious about this. I ordered the art book awhile back (I guess Barnes and Noble will email it closer to launch?), and having played the demo... the collector's assault rifle would be at a huge disadvantage if it's stuck at "I" in strength.

The Avenger improves a lot going to X. But if "unlocking" the Collector's rifle doesn't also unlock the possibility of random upgrades in packs online... that's A LOT of merchandise to have to purchase to get it to X rank.

The ads on places like Razer note that "if you already have the collector assault rifle, it will be upgraded". So, you can get a "for sure" upgrade, but I want to know if that's the only way.  Ideally, I guess it gets unlocked for possible upgrade in vet packs or whatever after the initial unlock.  The fact you CAN upgrade it with multiple purchases is vexing.

I do believe CAS can be upgraded in Spectre Packs if you have entered the code to unlock it.

The thing is: The rifle itself is considered rare, as in "has a golden card". As much as I want to believe your theory, it'd require an actual person having the rifle unlocked validate it to convince me.

You have to buy all the gear to upgrade it afaik. Razer said on it's store "If you already have the Collectors Assault rifle, don't worry! This will upgrade you gun even further!" Or something along those lines.

Of course.

I'd consider someone who took anything from a wiki without a pinch of salt, to be a fool :3.

As it stands, I'm tempted to believe the wiki is accurate, despite a few concerns of my own (like things being unlocked differently from in the demo).

Though yes, wait for someone who has definitely unlocked it personally!

If I had the time/money (Buying a bunch of Spectre packs), I'd do it. I'll play the next couple of days, selecting only the Spectre pack (Once I've unlocked all the common stuff), to see if I get it. I have 800 BP right now, might as well use them for that, right?

I have the Collector Rifle and have been playing multiplayer for a lot.  I have most of the weapons at this point.

The Collector Rifle is a gold level unlock and only comes from a Collector Rifle pack, very similar to the Battlefield 3 pack.

There is absolutely no way to upgrade it unless it is possible to get more of those packs, and the only way I can think of is if the codes from the Razor PC gear stack with the Barnes and Noble codes.

That might be so, but we don't know entirely for certain yet. I'm willing to cling to the hope that it can unlock from Spectre packs (or Veteran packs if you're lucky) until proven otherwise, by a BioWare dev or a person who's unlocked everything.

Well, I do have all of the gold weapons and most of the N7 weapons.
The Collector Rifle hasn't come up even once.  The reason you have to unlock it by an exclusive pack is because that is the only way to get it.

I know, but don't tell my brain that. I want to be blissfully unaware of it until I notice I'm not getting anything but unlock cards for characters and equipment.
Don't destroy my hope.

Curses. I really wanted to upgrade it without having to buy a new mousepad and messenger bag. Not touching the mouse, keyboard or headset. None of them look good. The messenger bag and mousepad looks good, but I don't need a new mousepad or a new messenger bag.

*le sigh* BioWare, why you no give Collector Assault Rifle unlocks without buying stuff I don't want.
Thanks for the heads up, Verhalthur. Now I know I don't have to wait for an unlock.
And it was so good. The sound it made...

I gotta say, that's a pretty terrible promotional item if you can't even upgrade it (unless you want to purchase 9 more action figures/PC accessories/whatever). What a waste.

It is honestly not that great. It's exactly like the M-8 Avenger except 2.5 times as heavy and 2 times as accurate.

It's so heavy that in order to not get a cooldown increase on my Human Sentinel, I can only carry it. (And I only get an 8% reduction)

It does look and sound incredibly cool, though, and I love using it just to have my teammates say "I saw someone with a Collector Rifle."

Never seen anyone else use it, though, probably because it's near useless.

What I find horrible with this promotion is that ME2 CE owners who are accustomed to it and own it in ME2, do not get access to it in any shape or form in ME3.

That IMO is a real kick in the nuts.

Yeah, I was surprised that it isn't in singleplayer at all, especially when the Collector armor is.

I guess they wanted to make it super exclusive, but I dunno why.
