Being able to finally play as an Asari/Drell/Krogan/Quarian/Salarian/Turian
was one of the greatest features multiplayer had to offer over the
single player campaign. Unfortunately most of us may not even get to
experience this due to the horribly low chance of unlocking the race/class
we actually wish to play as.

Please, increase the rate in which new race/class options are unlocked in the final release. Sadly, we all understand that it is far too late to abolish the RNG system of unlocks. However, a patch update could increase the chances of getting alien race unlocks and should be the easiest compromise.

This has the be the biggest complaint I've heard over multiplayer. Many of us have played the multiplayer for hours and hours without getting a single race unlock, let alone the one we actually want. At this rate I may not even unlock Krogan Soldier before Mass Effect 3 releases even if I am playing the demo 4-5 hours per day and it may even be months before I unlock it in the retail version. I know many people that have maxed level characters and have bought 20+ Veteran packs without unlocking a single new character.

This needs to be fixed. The current system is not fair or fun. Please give us a decent chance to actually play the race/class of our own choosing.

I fully agree and I'd take it a step further and say all races should be unlocked at the beginning. It's not like one race is automatically better than the other... it all depends on how someone wants to play, so having them all unlocked isn't going to hurt anything. Making me play as a human when I really want a Drell isn't helping anyone. I'd still play the game because it's fun and I want to unlock weapons & earn XP.

While I think that such indignant and entitled outrage is childish, it would have been nice if everything was unlocked just for the demo. But then, of course, people would be ranting and raving about having to unlock their combination in retail.

Likewise, this becomes a non-issue in about half a month.

That makes things a little bit too easy. I'd leave one or the other human characters for each class unlocked from the start and then of the 12 remaining nonhuman characters, let each player unlock like 3 at the beginning of the game.

I actually like the random chance and packages, it encourages replayability and forces people to enjoy classes they might not otherwise play because they don't have a fast track to their favorite char/class. Sure it can be a bit frustrating but what multiplayer isn't?

At least they are trying something not often used, it could have been a lot worse.

They've confirmed there will be more packs in the full game that will give a higher chance of getting the rarer items (such as characters).

yeah, it'd be great to have a 30000 credit set of packs that could be like a "character pack" with higher odds of a new character or "weapon pack" with better odds of weapons, et cetera.

it would be cool if they had a pack for each perk/item/weapon/class/mod....with class/character costing more than upgrade/mod or something....guess we will find out

Demo is demonstration, and they are not demonstrating all the species, that is unfortunate..
Agreed to all of that.species
BioWare must have to do something with that!

It would make what too easy? Playing how you want to? That's how a video game should be, especially a shooter/RPG one.

Agreed to all of that.

Sure, they are. Just not the aspects of them that you want, personally. And apparently ones that the developers have decided that you have to work at, much to your entitled disgust.

There should be a way to unlock the other races by playing the class you want. Random unlocks is not fun, especially when you unlock everything but the one thing you want. I can't speak for everyone, but it makes me frustrated and makes me want to quit playing. It isn't fun. The multiplayer in general is great, but the race/class unlocks are not.

If not unlocked by playing the same class, then perhaps there should be an expensive pack you buy with credits that simply lets you choose which race/class you want to unlock.

@Berkilak: Don't let this perceived notion of his self-entitlement obscure you as to the truth in his post. While I'd normally agree that 'whiny' sentiments of self-entitlement are foolish, in this case, the OP raises a good point. The system as it stands is a real pain.

@G3rman: The game does not force people to 'enjoy' alternate play-styles. Also, this argument for the system promoting variation would be viable if it didn't take so ridiculously long to unlock other species.

@ FaddeZ: Unsure as to all the classes, but all the species are possible to acquire.

SImple solution, make Race/classes buyable from char select screen for like 100,000.
those who really want X or Y will pay, players who dont care will eventually get a treat from the randoms.

Don't really mind the RNG bags. As Jarrett Lee said in the sticky right above this thread, the demo has roughly only HALF the available items to get from bags, so the vet bags in the live version should feel much more varied and rewarding.

Whatever happened to the good old fashioned ranking up and unlocking the different races that way? or even buying them with credits? this is a huge flaw in the MP and needs to be addressed.

Didn't realize this was a problem. I unlocked at least 5 alien characters by N7 level 50, but I did buy probably around 30 vet packs to do so. I hope my luck doesn't turn come retail.

I like the random grab bags, I like the fact too that I may have to play for a while to unlock everything. I think they should have another package system, that costs 50,000 that guarantee's you a character xp pack, that way people could save up and have a higher chance of getting a character. It couldn't be any cheaper as you can easily get 40,000 from playing gold or silver with a good team and a levelled character.

The most important thing to me, is an abundance of new unlocks - I would really like a vast array of different items, weapons, power-ups and equipment that doesn't grow stale. Perhaps there could be a unique pack released every month with unique things like armour patterns or double xp, these could be unlocked via challenges perhaps too instead of money to make things even more interesting. Perhaps a new weapon modification for using a certain weapon in a certain way x amount of times. I love loot, and the current system does away with inventory clutter which is nice - but this way it will never grow stale.

Personally I like the random packs. Bit of a change from the other standard multiplayer unlocking methods

Yeah, I like RNG packs as well. It makes me want to play more and more and see what I'll unlock for my saved money.

That said, there should be a pack that let's unlock a character/race that the player want for people who do not enjoy RNG drops, though I don't see why they don't like it ^^

As much as I like the random packs, there should be an option in-game to purchase specific weapons and characters. They could be made very expensive - so, for example, you have to choose between 50,000 for a new species or 20,000 for the veteran pack which has a small chance of including a new species.

I really want to unlock a Krogan or a Turian character, and I really want the Widow for my Salarian infiltrator, but its just not happening.
