True, I understand the Weapons being RNG, but the Races should just be unlocked as you level up the class.

Take the Infiltrator. At lvl 1 you have the Male/Female Human, at lvl 10 you unlock the Salarian, and lvl 15 you unlock the Quarian. It makes the races a tangible reward, not some loot drop. Why would you reward someone who is leveling up his Adept by giving him a Turian Soldier?

Yeah, I like RNG packs as well. It makes me want to play more and more and see what I'll unlock for my saved money.

That said, there should be a pack that let's unlock a character/race that the player want for people who do not enjoy RNG drops, though I don't see why they don't like it ^^

Cause its garbage they said we could play as the aliens in MP oh but thats right because of  the media black out  they failed to tell us it was random on how we unlock them. COD and Gears have a standard unlock system and it works fine .  It needs to be fixed

So much complaining and a sense of entitlement. Sheesh. I completely disagree with the claims made that unlocking the characters is too hard or rare. Guess what? Its supposed to be hard. I never understand this new generation of gamers who have no patience to actually put in a respectable number of hours in a game to get goodies. Nothing is guaranteed. You might of played the same amount of hours as me but havent unlocked any races? Tough luck. You're only complaining because you're unlucky. Based on how many players I run across online who have unlocked other races, i'd say the system is fine. IMO, if youre below N7 level 30, you havent spent enough time.

I say no shortcuts. No handouts. This sytem is the same for everyone. Its fair. Earn the unlocks.

Oh I am sorry in MP there are certain standards that most and if all gamers accept and since Call of Duty 4 MW it has been leveling up your character and you unlock things . what Bioware is taking that away and saying oh that playing as aliens we told you about its random . Its a load of crap and this MP needs it fixed. I got lucky and unlocked a krogan soldier . I should have been able to unlock him by reaching a certain level in the soldier class .

I mean fixed because its garbage and a messed up system . it was ok at first until I spent 2 days and finally unlock the krogan soldier . It should not be like that but if enough people do not play this MP Bioware will get the message and fix it

Yeah, I agree. This needs to be fixed. I've bought 40 or so veteran packs, and I still haven't unlocked the Quarian Engineer. I'm getting pretty sick of grinding for an undefined goal.

And what wrong with rewarding players for skill, and working towards a goal?

Generally MP games where skill is the least important factor are looked down upon.

I'm highly against the horrendously random chance of getting an alien race Bioware has implimented into the multiplayer. It just takes the fun out of it when you go in hoping to play as a certain race, only to find out your forced to play as a human and have a terribly slim chance of getting what you actually want from the current packs. After a while, it just gets frustrating, and I have complete understanding for those who no longer wish to play do to this.

As for those who think everyone's just "complaining because they can't get what they want", they need to realize that people want what they want so they can actually have fun. When they can't and have something they don't want forced upon them, it makes the experience far less enjoyable. Throw in very rare pack drop with a high chance of getting the same thing multiple times (most often humans and/or weapons people don't use from what I've been seeing), and you get what's a terrible experience in their eyes. Also, on the topic of those who actually like this random lygenerated unlocks, I've mostly seen people who have already unlocked what they wanted as those who like it and deem those who constantly get something they don't want as "just unlucky" or "impatient".

so theres this guy called Vaandrasl Amuandae that complains and crys a lot about not getting what he wants ever heard of him?

This not about skill when the unlock system is random . I could go play COD with my friends and unloack things no matter what skill I am . eventuall they will change this to keep the MP a float or else word of mouth on the unlock system will kill it . BF 3 does not do this dumb crap

No, it's not garbage. And it's not messed up. It's a very decent system that strikes an intricate balance. What it needs is refinement. Honestly it amazes me people would boycott the multiplayer over this. But meh, to each their own. I like the current system.

Because it generally makes the game even harder for those who have bad twitch reflexes or have issues competing at higher levels of skill due to either just being bad gamers, more casual, or any issues they might have. They get stuck with the same worthless crap because the game deems them unworthy.

The rate is WAY too low. I'm now on N7 level 53 and I've bought mostly the veteran packs. Unlocks so far: 1 (!) salarian.

I like the system, for the most part. I agree, though, that the unlocks are too slow to happen. Also, it would have been nice if the characters that are locked because its a demo were revealed in the beginning. I was trying like hell to get an Asari Vanguard, but I guess she's locked for the demo. That's fine with me - I just wish I knew that in the beginning so I wasn't hoping for one with every Veteran pack.

All in all, though, I really like the random system. It's fun.

still tame compared to swtor's initial pvp system especially if you play on the republic side of things.
i'm good with this.

Hopefully, they'll have "Character Unlock" packs or something similar when the full game releases.

I was looking forward to playing as a Krogan soldier when the demo released, and I was OK with it when it turns out you have to unlock him first. Then, after many veteran and recruit packs, I became perturbed when I found out there's only a small, random chance of getting a character unlock with the packs, and even smaller chance of getting a character you'd want to use/don't already have. It's like buying Pokemon card packs wanting a Charizard, but every pack turns out to be filled with Pokeballs, with the only Pokemon you're occasionally getting are Caterpies and Rattatas.

I'm good with the fact that some multiplayer games use this dirty, dirty unlock system to enhance/substitute gameplay in the replayability equation. What I'm not good with is the ludicrously small chance of obtaining characters.

If you're gonna exploit my psyche with this Skinner box like everyone else, Bioware, at least give me a better chance of getting my Krogan.

I fully agree and I'd take it a step further and say all races should be unlocked at the beginning. It's not like one race is automatically better than the other... it all depends on how someone wants to play, so having them all unlocked isn't going to hurt anything. Making me play as a human when I really want a Drell isn't helping anyone. I'd still play the game because it's fun and I want to unlock weapons & earn XP.

That makes things a little bit too easy. I'd leave one or the other human characters for each class unlocked from the start and then of the 12 remaining nonhuman characters, let each player unlock like 3 at the beginning of the game.

It would make what too easy? Playing how you want to? That's how a video game should be, especially a shooter/RPG one.

Are you familiar with the idea of unlocking content by earning objectives? Like Gears of War 3's entire character list and assortment of weapon skins?

The difference here is Gears says "reach lvl.30, get this character!" and ME3 says, "get 20,000 credits, buy this pack, and pray to whatever you deem holy because we have no clue if you're going to get anything".

The random unlock thing can be annoying. Especially when you spend 20,000 credits and all you get is a viper upgrade. But I will say that few things in video games match the excitement I felt when I opened my pack and saw Asari Adept. I wanted to jump up and down. I was actually excited. Much more excited than I would have been had I purchased Asari on my own or hit a level requirement I was already prepared for.

And even if you do somehow get the race/class combo you want, you have to get it another 4-5 times to get all of the customization options for it.

All I want is to have my purple asari. That's it. Is that too much to ask?

I really wish the unlocks weren't random.

I've got an N7 rating of 40 and I've taken a Human male Soldier to level 20 and a Human Male Adept to level 11 now and I've yet to unlock a single new playable character.

I agree. The method by which characters are unlocked needs to be rethought. I'm not to sure about this, but I'm toying with the idea of not having to unlock them at all <_< Races provide a slight tweak in gameplay, but their aesthetic and sentimental value is far more resourceful. I want to play as a Quarian. It won't be much different from my Human engineer, but I just want the novelty of playing my favorite race, and I don't want to have to play for ever and ever to get a chance at unlocking them. What say you people? Should races even be unlocked at all? Should we always get to pick one start-out character, but then have to unlock the others?
