They've confirmed there will be more packs in the full game that will give a higher chance of getting the rarer items (such as characters).

Would be great!

Still sounds randomized, taking controll from the players. Not very satisfactory...

Are they enforcing this whole thing in an attempt to increase variety in play? Because that is redundant. I'll try a great many classes and characters, but I simply wish to choose a main and favorite one.

Don't really mind the RNG bags. As Jarrett Lee said in the sticky right above this thread, the demo has roughly only HALF the available items to get from bags, so the vet bags in the live version should feel much more varied and rewarding.

I really hope the genders are easier to unlock in the full game. I don't hink I have unlocked any of the alternative human genders.

I've been very disappointed in this aspect of the game as well. I have two accounts and in my first account I got a ton of unlocks but with one exception (drell vanguard) they were all human females and some were multiples unlocks for the same class (all human female). Yesterday I played on my other account for hours and I didn't get a single one. I've read how race unlocks are supposed to happen more often in the real multiplayer, but what is up with getting the same characters multiple times? They should add the ability to unlock races through gameplay aspects in addition to random unlocks. Like after completing so many levels in a particular class, you can have a choice of unlocking another character race or gender in that same class or another class. So that way players at least have a chance of getting the exact race they want. It would just make people want to play the game even more because this random stuff is absolutely NOT the reason why I continue to play the game.

I haven't been able to play yet, since the server is unavailable all the time, but now I think I should quit already. I mean, really? Random? Is everything "unlocked" via RANDOM drops/buyables? Top that with that they can be duplicates and thus worthless? Really?

That's... that's... I dunno.. Maybe the worst decision in the whole history of recent games?
That is the single most unfair "reward" system EVER devised.

Let me guess, you start with human/soldier? Ergo - most of the people have already what they want and can just enjoy the game from the get-go and every unlock is just a bonus.

Ultertmarto above speaks my thoughts exactly. Why are novelty unlocks (races, colors) treated similarly to weapon unlocks. Why do we need to unlock cosmetic things in the first place. I'm all for pick-one-unlock-rest.

the quiet truth is, I suck with an assault rifle. If I'm "forced to enjoy" (THAT, my friends, is an oxymoron) playing with human/soldier, I simply won't. End of story. I don't enjoy running around with automatic weapons, I don't enjoy the human race, if the are alternatives. If I don't enjoy playing, I simply won't play. If I won't play, I won't buy. It really is simple as that.

By all means, unlocks are "essential", but they should be upgrades, equipment, weapons, mods, grenades, abilities, etc. But NOT races/classes. That's the single reason I HATED MW. "Forcing to enjoy" something that I really do not is really easy way to make me NOT to play.

Also, it is humongously unfair toward people who really enjoy the default choice versus people who don't. It is like, by default, I should get all released games free of charge, and most of you should pay. If you treat something as a "reward" and have a pre-determined default of one from the list, you are essentially rewarding a bunch of people without them needing to do ANYTHING to earn it, all the while make the rest "work" towards the "same" reward.

EDIT: WHAT? Are GENDERS really subject to unlocks? REALLY? That's it - canceling pre-order. I HATE, HATE, HATE that.

I completely agree about unlocking them trough gameplay. How about character levels would unlock them? Because these things are pretty important as they are purely peference issues.

Nah, it's not that bad at all. You get to choose any class, I'm almost certain. It's just that the races and such are unlockable. Furthermore, unlocking the Krogan sentinal doesn't mean you also get to play as the Krogan soldier.

And I ... think it's also the case that you need to unlock females of all classes, as if they're different species or something. As far as I'm concerned, the female option serves primarily as a comfortable role for actual female players (though this isn't necessarily true for either gender). It's like they assume that no girls are going to play at all. Hopefully they'll fix that, if nothing else.

The randomness is fine... people are just angry (somewhat understandably) that they don't have the characters they want when they want them. The whole point is to get people to play long enough and to encourage the use of other classes/equipment, while you work towards your ideal character. This is just a demo... the rate at which things unlock and even the entire system itself isn't fully represented here, so I think people should wait before saying things are unacceptable.

I do notice that you tend to get equipment for the stuff you use the most. In my case, I seem to get a lot of sniper/pistol upgrades and my first character unlock was the Salarian Infiltrator. Heresay, but I think repeated use of class/weapon increases your chances for upgrades in that particular category.

You start with all classes, but for human only. Any other combinations have to be specifically unlocked.
You start with female in some classes. I know sentinel, and maybe.. vanguard?

I still don't mind it myself, but it might be because I never had a 'favourite' class so I'm happy just rotating whatever I get. Having a bunch of pointless unlocks in there is to give value to the more rare things - the same reason they put junk items you'll never use in diablo2. At least you don't unlock from a pool of hundreds of titles like in Lost Planet 2.

I'm not going to argue that my opinion is "correct" though. It sucks if others aren't liking it and I'm sure there's a happy medium way of doing it.

Got the demo to work. Played ~10minutes. I can honestly say that is the first, and last time I will ever launch the multiplayer, unless something is drastically changed.

1) Females aren't a different "race". Period. That they are treated as such is..is.. I don't know, I'm too angry for words.

2) You have X number of races and Y number of classes, why isn't the total X times Y? Why are certain classes/races restricted to/from certain races/classes? No Asari Infiltrator? There's no real reason why not, so I REALLY hope this is changed in the retail game. Creating artificial limits where there are no real ones is just being a dick.

3) No server browser? In 2012? REALLY?

4) I'm soooo angry, mostly because I ADORED original Mass Effect and I really, really liked ME2 but now ME3 is looking to be a huge disappointment no matter how I look at it. I really, really wish to be proven wrong a few weeks down the road. I won't hold my breath, though.

But, the way you handled multiplayer earned you one cancelled pre-order, like promised. This time I'll read first, buy second, probably.

ps. I really hope some member of this "female species" comes and kicks you right in the "male species center" so you'll learn for the next time. Women as different race? Blargh. And I trusted you.

Server browsers have been a thing of the past for multiplatform games for some time now, I doubt they're coming back any time soon. I think it's for much of the same reason that they won't let you adjust the mouse sensitivity in Mass2, trying to keep it as simple as possible.

While I like the idea of purchasing supplies/equipment with credits, I kind of have to agree that randomizing race unlocks is a little frustrating.

I luckily got my Krogan Soldier after only my first or second 'purchase,' and now finding out that that won't carry over into the Full Game is a very disheartening considering that I am now Level 22 and have yet to unlock even a single other race after hours of gameplay.

What is really stupid is how the RNG will give you more of the same crap you've already have. For example, my Mantis is at level 8. At level 8 this thing is nearly as powerful as my Widow I with less weight and only slightly less damage.

If they are intent on keeping the RNG system, at least make it so that you level weapons based on how much you use them and to give incentive, they should provide large XP bonuses when you've reached a certain kill milestone.

It's Ok, but I'd like as suggested the choice of one you want to start with. the 'things you use most' I'm not seeing, I never used a sniper rifle or the starting machine pistol yet I have the Mantis X and Shuriken X to my Avenger V and Phalanx III... ah well.

I'll keep playing towards my preferred unlocks, but some packs I just get things I avoid using because I know I'm rubbish with them from ME2, both recruit and veteran packs.

Sure it can be a bit frustrating but what multiplayer isn't?

At least they are trying something not often used, it could have been a lot worse.

Seriously? This blew my mind. Just because MW3 has F***ing atrocious MP does not, in any way, make it ok for ANY OTHER GAME to have bad MP or MP mechanics. How about instead of randomly unlocking stuff, the store acutally, I don't know, functions as a store? Being able to purchase what you want when you want is far superior to buying a pack of random stuff you probably won't use.

"It could have been worse" is not, and never has been, and excuse. Yeah, it could have been worse, but you know what, it also could have been better.

I unlocked Quarian Engineer in my starter pack. Since then, I've unlocked palette upgrades for the default humans five times and for said Quarian once. In my Vet packs I have gotten the Tempest, and then nothing but pallettes and shotguns. So many shotguns. All I want is a turian/krogan for goshsake.
I love the RNG, especially knowing that it will be more rewarding in full game, I just really want to get characters a bit more easily. Heck, I'd have settled for a male human vanguard at this point. Nope, just the quarian. Who is awesome, but starting to get repetitive.

I'm starting to suspect that the randomized unlocks is mainly there to allow for all the cross promotional DLC which gives you a randomized multiplayer pack.

People would get pissed if you had to buy all these cross promotional items to unlock the specific in game items that you want; but if its just some randomized package then they can go nuts with the cross promotional DLC without taking as much flack.

The downside is that we've lost all control over our unlocks.

I say they should give players 1 frebe and let them choose 1 alien race they want to play for 1 class and then make em earn the rest.
This way the players get what they want, and the random package system won't be that critized.
Simple solution to a simple problem :)
