Dr. Strangehate or: How i learned to start worrying and hate the Vanguard

Sentry is in the opposite corner, just waiting for him to enter the building. "Waiting" turns out to NOT be a proper word, since he charges at you seconds after deploying your sentry. He ignores it and goes directly to you. There is no more time for you to take, let's roll.
Sentry shoots him in the back couple of times, but it's hardly effective, since his barriers are barely scratched at this point. You leave cover with Mattock in your hands, heavily modified so your thermal clip won't be empty in the middle of the battle. Going backwards you shoot a full clip in Phantoms chest, but he's to agile for you to get all the shots right into spot. You quickly reload, and shoot again. This time it's better, he's barriers are down to three squares. Why my chest hurts so badly?
Oh right, Phantom just removed your shields and two squares of health without even coming close to you. Instincts tell you to run so you do it - right in the open. Panicking, you throw a sentry right at your feet. Phantoms is getting closer. You hide behind the barricade, hoping for a miracle... and your shields back. Finally, when your little blue bar is full, you charge at him. All shots go in, even sentry finally does it's job and both of you manage to kill his barriers. Health should be easy at this point.
Never underestimate the heart of a champion. Your shields go down much quicker than they replenish themselves. You quickly freeze Phantom, who, of course, keeps moving, but at least is slowed down. You use one of your health packs to replenish health... oh look, cavalry is here! Adept came to help you, he quickly throws a singularity at your enemy, and then pushes back rest of the enemies. Phantom is floating around Singularity, with two squares of health left and body colder than ground in Alaska. It's time for you to finish the job and give him what he deserves.
A big ball of light flies right near your ear, charging at Phantom, then, just to be sure, shoots his body on the ground. Letters appear on your screen - 880 ASSIST. ASSIST?! I put so much effort in it, and all i get is an ASSIST?! I listen to my speakers, i think i hear my friend, who plays Vanguards talking: "Guys, this is awesome! This charge is so cool, how could i missed this class in Mass Effect 2? So incredible!" . He was nowhere near my enemy through the course of the entire fight when i needed him, and WHEN I DON'T he shows up like a late guest and completely ruins my party.
Next missions i just stopped caring about my team - i kept running away from them, just to get as much kills as i can before Vanguards show up. My buddies were getting pretty mad at me for my selfish playstyle, while completely forgetting about the most selfish person in the team, the damned Vanguard.
I showed them next round. Vanguard went down at the begging of the thrid wave with me near him - i ran past him, no ressurection for him. He got stomped couple of seconds later, and had to wait the whole wave to get res'd. Why did i deliberately left him? It's not that i don't like my friend, it's just that i WANTED TO HAVE FUN FOR ONE, SINGLE, TINY WAVE, without killstealing, charging etc.
It worked pretty well.
PS. Yes i was mad yesterday when i wrote this, now i'm pretty much calm. After all these kills i lost due to Vanguards i just "snapped" yesterday.
PPS. Around 90% of what i wrote up here is a True Story - rest may be a bit exaggerated.

I've played both sides of this and it is a difficult call, I get annoyed when I see my kills stolen, although if you get most of the HP off you get most of the points I think, but I hate when I die and see a VG that could have charged and got something off me.
Edit: I really enjoyed reading the story though!

I have played a round on sliver with a good squad including a level 18 vanguard (no voip was needed at all) as long you stick together in 2 man teams to watch each others back you can hold of anything.
I don't think I ever would have made it past round 5 of silver if I didn't have a Vanguard running around and biotic stomping Cerberus for me. I run Engineer so I'm just happy that I can drop shields for him before that dumb phantom ruins my day with her little pea gun that apparently shoots out portable death.

I get some kind of weird pleasure out of setting up kills for others.

Complaining about almost 1,000 points? You realize he probably only got about +80 for that kill right? You DID do most of the work, that's why you got all those points. It's called CO-OP for a reason...you know...COOPERATION?
I'd rather get 80 points and a pretty writing KILL right next to it, than get almost 1000 points and get the most important thing taken away from you. It's not cooperation if Vanguard constantly interferes with my kills.

Probably, i've never been a Vanguard for more than couple of minutes (i hate this class since ME2). My rage was not aimed at my friend for trying to help me (personally, since he's a Vanguard, i think he just selfishly charged at the enemy to steal the kill), it was aimed at the killstealing.
Thanks! I guess now i have more positive reviews than "Deception" ever is going to have.sirjimmus86 wrote..

I'd rather have a +880 Assist than a 220 Kill, and that's speaking as a Vanguard player myself.
Yes, you describe your playstyle as unbelievably selfish. That is just not the way you're supposed to handle being on a team.

Points are a lot more important than kills, since that translates directly into experience and money.

I know, i already apologized to my friends for that. I just snapped, after constantly getting my kills stealed i just couldn't handle it anymore and went into full rage, not caring about my buddies, teamwork or even fun. My eyes went red and i was acting like a douche.
Teamwork in multiplayer is acctually pretty fun, i love getting kills (this is the damned reason i SHOOT at the enemy), but i guess winning is more important than my kills number. My temper just gets too short some times, and Vanguard in my team is making me a ticking bomb.

Most of the time they do what they are supposed to do, you can't expect a class that is made for speed highing and disruption to sit back and shoot with a pistol, no one is asking you to charge blindly to save a teammate in the middle of a crowd, that is the vanguard/infiltrator job.

1. I'm traveling across the map to get closer to you specifically as you're straggeling (are away from other allies.)
2. I'm low on shields and need the charge to regenerate.
3. That enemy is the closest point to some objective or some fallen allies.
Biotic charge is sort of the quintessential Vanguard ability. It does everything for us, positioning, damage, disruption, shield generation and is just plain fun to use.
It's such a powerful part of our kit.

We vanguards don't have to justify what we do lol. We just have to do our job well and stay alive while doing it. If somewhat has a problem with the vanguard it's his issue, not ours. I've frankly have just as many rage stories of people leaving the game because I "take away" too many kills and that they "never" see any action, or people not backing up what I did because they're too scared or "safe". If I didn't have a team to back up what I did the risk that I took would be enormous. That's what I talked about in my post earlier: I'm just glad we got the job done. Next time any of you complain about vanguards or kill stealing, remember: YOU'RE SPECIAL FORCES! Your job is the mission, not the kills lol

There are many classes available for everybody. Pick whatever you want as other people do.
Plain and simple.

Also, phantoms are female.
I sure hope so, with how many times I've biotic humped them.
(defining biotic humping as repeatedly charging an individual until they're dead)
