Is there any means of doing this either in the lobby or even in game?
It is funny/frustrating to watch people try and communicate by turning Ready on and off and changing characters all the time. Yes get a microphone, well I'm still struggling to get that to work for whatever reason so this would be a nice backup.
Text based chat

I think its disabled in the demo.
On PC its meant to be press T to bring it up - but alas - no dice.
You can do it through Origin - but its not team - and its clunky.

But we can do it only with our friends list in Origin. And clunky is a very kind word to describe it... =) If we could at least chat with the team in that mission in just one chat window... but even if the three other members are in the chat window, we need to change windows if we wish to speak to a particular person.
What I do is to text message only one guy with a mic and he conveys it to the team! I really want my headset back but the wife took it to her office so she can gossip with her relatives on Skype and doesn't want to give it back! heh (I don't let her touch my PC. She's a magnet for viruses! If she sneezes close enough my PC risks to get infected!)

Voice-chat works well, not ideal for folks without mics but it certainly is more efficient. Kinda sucks that the text chat doesn't seem to work, oh how many times I have wanted to yell "There's two turrets and a Phantom in there!"

Ah well if its going to be in the main game as suggested by the T button, I can live with that. Plus getting my headset working too. Cheers
