Seems like I'm the only Vanguard that doesn't use Nova. Why no love for Shockwave?

Dont get me wrong, bad vanguards are BAAAAAAAAAAD,

Just got done playing with one on as my Turian Sentinel on silver.

Idiot charged everything in sight, Instantly Nova'd, instantly died. EVERY SECOND. I stopped trying to revive him, and we all died.

Real Vanguards Rock Like A Boss.

Seems to me all the hate stems from the fact that Vanguard seems to multiply your Awesomeness/Sucktitude.

personally I liked the shockwave from me2 way better. the me3 one seems weaker, seems to have less range and do less damage/ knock back. in comparison to nova, nove is veriseral (you feel awesome using it) you don't have to aim you can use it right after a charge since it isn't stoped by cooldown, ect ,ect.

I use Nova just for the recharge, or destabilizer. Sometimes soloing Phantoms out of the way is worth a revive.

What I mean is that compared to a maxed Nova + Charge build, Shockwave sucks. Nova is AOE, Shockwave is linear. Nova does more damage than Shockwave. Nova does not affect your Charge cooldown, Shockwave does. The list goes on.

Putting points into Shockwave takes points from one of the other four skills, all of which are better.

I'll say this. From what I've played Vanguards are definitely the most fun and most risk taking class. I can see why people love this class. (I've played mostly Sentinel and Adept) But yeah, like I said it's definitely risk taking and sometimes the risk doesn't pay off.

I use Shockwave a lot...using Nova is just asking for death (I mostly play on Silver and Gold difficulty)

When shockwave hits, it's amazing. Especially lift shockwave. With my human adept, I'm able to stand at the top of the stairs on noveria map and spam shockwave through the walls to help people in the floor below. Not to mention it now detonates warp and singularity.

One thing about it that severely cripples it...the radius is HORRIBLE. I mean, god awful. If there is one thing Bioware should change about this ability, it's that. Leave the damage, leave the length. Change the radius. I saw it pass between 2 enemies standing a foot apart from each other and nothing happened. It's.. I mean, that radius....is just awful. I'm even desperate for .5meter increase! SOMETHING at least.

FYP

Nova = Win

Charge in, wait for cooldown to drop, Nova, Charge again, magically not die.

If you go shotgun and heavy pistol (which I do) your cooldown period is like 2-3 seconds.

It doesn't suck, it's simply preference. I've gotten a lot of biotic kills with shockwave.

I roll pistol only. Nearly instant cooldown on Charge, basically negates most of the risk from Nova.

Only thing that can bite you is if you cant find another target to charge to while under fire.

I admit i get annoyed at Vanguards sometimes, especially if I'm playing my Salarian Infiltrator. But it isn't their fault. That is how Vanguards play and that is definitely how i play as a Vanguard when i am one.

On a high difficulty, Nova seems like your asking for a quick death.

How would one spec a Vanguard for Nova?

Full Charge => Damage => Power Syn => Barrier

Full Alliance Training => Power Damage => Power Damage => Weapon Weight

Full Fitness => All Durability

Full Nova => Damage => Recharge => Pierce

I rarely play as vanguard and decided to try it out. Tried on solo private bronze first so that I won't make other people angry at me if I charged at the enemies since I'm experimenting. I have to say you have to actually play it to understand how it works and how fun as well as important vanguard is. It's high risk and high reward play-style. They're good at distracting the enemies but it needs to be done carefully. Charge at an enemy near a turret and you'll die. Bringing only 1 weapon to speed up charge helps a lot. Awareness of enemy locations is also the key so you can charge out of difficult situation. Low barrier? Find an isolated enemy and charge that shield up! Managed to reach wave 6 solo till a friend of mine who plays vanguard join. We take turns charging ^^

At higher levels, based on observation, it's better for vanguards to stick with the team or in pairs. Help stagger enemies that are putting the team at risk or combine powers them. Staying together is important cause when you see an enemy nearly stomping them, you can charge at them and revive.

In short, strategic charging is the life of a vanguard.

I am happy to support them from flanks so far.

Puts you to cooldown and doesn't let you recharge your shields like charge does. I understand it has it's uses sometimes. But enemies dodge it so easy and you are never 100% sure if it will hit. Nova is just better because of lack of cooldown.

On bronze: Most effective killer in the game. Charge all over the map, clear every area before your squad even reaches you.
Silver or higher: Good for flanking enemies, quickly getting to downed squadmates, quickly getting to objectives, distracting and staggering Phantoms. Very usefull overall, as long as you don't go down, as usually when that happens there are too many enemies between you and your squadmates.
