I'm not the vanguard, I am the krogan. No nova for me, just a heavy melee.

Although I can help a vanguard with guardians I think, my carnage staggers the guardians leaving them wide open for a few seconds to weapons fire and other abilities.

Yeah, I play Infiltrator, and have no problem with Vanguard players. In fact.  I have great synergy with them. Besides, the score tallies mean nothing really, so long as all enemies are down that's what matters.

My bestest bro rolls Infiltrator, and we totally wreck everything together.  Vans and Infies were meant to be best frienemies.

And yeah, everyone gets the same amount of credits/XP at the end, so who cares about the scores?

Having played as an Engineer for the past few days, I've actually spent more time setting up kills for my teammates (and being the defacto Turret Dismantler.)  Number of kills really is irrelevant since the team as a whole needs to work together to get the max amount of points to get the most XP as they can.

Engineer's are great support. Except for quarian engineer's. Poor sods and that gimped turret.

I find that Vanguards and really aggressive soldiers make my job as an Infiltrator super duper hard because as soon you get into melee range of enemies they start running all over the place which makes sniping them a heck of a lot harder.

Now if all those Vanguards became Adepts with Statis, THAT would be synergy.

Or imagine if they could get a perk for Nova that would stasis ALL surrounding enemies. That would be perfection.

People getting pissed at Vanguards for playing the class the way its supposed to be played make me scratch my head. Vanguard...the tip of the spear, putting our asses on the line for the team and all we get is hate and jealously. Its not my fault a good Vanguard can destroy most enemies in seconds if played properly. Sounds like a lot of whiners need to step up there game and stop acting like ****ing babies.

Yup, nice reply.-_-

Although to address the point you did make...

How great is the tip of the spear without the rest of the weapon to provide the force and thrust that makes the spear so effective in the first place? A good vanguard is ok, but a great vanguard works with his team.

On the subject of vanguards, who are they best paired with? Does a vanguard do great with another vanguard? Or do they disrupt each other too much?

Vangaurds work great together, sometimes when a vanguard charges into a fight to tough for them to handle and gets KO'd, it takes another vanguard to rescue her.

Myself and a couple of buds decided to all play Vanguards on silver last night and it was absolutely crazy. We wrecked EVERYTHING. There was so much Biotic goodness everywhere that I thought my xbox would explode from awesome.

I and none of the people I game with have a problem with the way the classes are set up. Its the whiners like yourself and others on this board that need to loosen the **** up and enjoy the game for what it is, instead of trying to dampen everyone elses experiance with your nonsense... smart ass.

Further proof you don't bother to read or address anything actually useful in this thread.

I never once whined. At all. Ever.

In fact I was asking other how to best work with vanguards.

Fail.;)

I tried out the Vanguard in ME2, but never could get into it. After reading the first 10 pages or so of this thread, I decided to give it a try - long story short, the only break I've taken from playing the Vanguard the last two days has been when I unlocked the Asari adept (also a blast to play).

It's odd that I enjoy this class so much, as I'm generally more of a support/artillery player. I've spent most of my time previously playing Sentinel/Adept or a very cautious pick-my-spots Soldier. Don't know if I can go back to that now; it's like the ME3 Vanguard was made for me. I was rough in the first few outings, but once I hit a rhythm it was beast mode all the way. Just finished a game where a Drell guard and I had to run the last 6 waves by ourselves after the Soldier and the Engineer ragequit over "kill stealing." It was working pretty well for everyone before they quit though; not a single player dropped in the first 5 waves.

To be fair, the whole point for playing a game is to have fun.  If the players can't do anything, or they feel their efforts are wasted, I can see why they would ragequit.

Afterall what are they needed for? Besides causing the enemies to not focus on your for a few seconds, they feel worthless.

I rarely blow nova. Most of the vanguards I see doing that are noob types that haven't even learned how to use charge properly yet. I guess you could probably get away with nova more often on bronze though.

I've never had a problem with Vanguards "kill-stealing," but I do get nervous when playing duo or trio with a Vanguard because of their habit of dying in the thick of things. When that player is representing 33 - 50% of your manpower, just leaving them there to rot not only goes against the team spirit, but can hurt the team's chances of getting through the wave as badly as risking a dangerous revival.

I've done it. I've left a Vanguard behind. But only because I know I'm not good enough to take a Phantom or Atlas in CQC.

Also, thy must make at least 5 memes for every class.

(Oh god all the classes what have I gotten myself into...)

You want some suggestions?

Human Soldier:

"Fragged that Atlas! Crap, how'd those Guardians get between me and the ammo crate?"

Turian:

"Barrel what? Revenant on full auto is how I roll."

Sentinel:

"Wait, my armor blows up when I hit the red button? Are you sure this is safe?"

Salarian Infiltrator:

"Advantage of being salarian. Never see me coming."
"How do all these mines fit into this tiny little pistol? SCIENCE!"

This. I mainly only use nova on bronzes, or to finish turrets and phantoms really easily.  It's a life saver at times, but spamming it gets you killed quick.

So by noobs you mean the people who regularly steam roll Silver and rock Gold?

You can use it on Silver just fine ( I solo'd Silver just by spamming the hell out of BC-Nova), on gold you just need to be aware of your surroundings and make an intelligent decision (call for an overload or stasis w/e). Obviously you're not supposed to use it like some sort of crutch but it's a lot more helpful than having SW and it's good for breaking up/slowing mobs on Gold.

LOL....

I Nova after or before almost every Charge, but then Its pretty rare that I'm not either Charging ot Nova'ing.

Silver run just today, used Nova all the time, never went down once. Saved my teams collective asses numerous times by Charging in and going Nova before a Cerberus mook could execute a downed teammate. Maybe fired 20 shots from my Carnifex the entire round.

Charge + Heavy Melee + Nova = Win

I've played with good Vanguards. They can be very effective when used properly with good support.

I've also played with bad Vanguards. Ones who rush ahead of their support and get slaughtered. They're just a waste of space in that case.

I actually find Vanguard balance to be a bit of a joke. 200% recharge Charge --> Nova --> Charge is stupidly powerful. And I mean stupidly, as all the strategy needed in most cases is the ability to quickly lock-on to something new and sometimes roll backwards after Nova.

The only reason most people haven't realized this is that most random players haven't realized the benefits of minimizing weight.

It is common for ME3 Human Vanguard players to rationalize that they MUST do Charge-->Nova-->Charge to not die, ignoring that the entire reason why doing another charge is neccesary is because they had brainlessly charged into the middle of a group of enemies with no fallback plan.

I played Insanity ME2 Vanguard to death and reguarly play Drell. Charge has tactical worth beyond re-charging shields every 3 seconds. ME3 turned the ultimate divide and conquer class into a brainless charging bull class. There is no art in charge as it is presently, just mindless spamming.

I've had enough people drop on me while playing as a Vanguard that I've become fairly certain its because I'm usually killing a majority of the enemies on the map. I've taken to just using the Phalanx and Shockwave during the first half and I've found that a lot less people drop. -_-

It's not a problem as long as everyone's having fun, it's just a bit weird that as a Vanguard I'm relegated to picking off enemies with a handgun and shockwaving closer enemies until later waves when killing a lot of annoying enemies is suddenly a good thing. :/

This is on Bronze by the way. On the Silver most everyone seems fine with having a Vanguard rip through tougher enemies.
