I think some people hate Vanguards for "stealing their kills". But, if I have shotgun and I know I can take down those two enemy in the distance, of course I'm going to charge and kill them. I can't shoot them from distance with shotgun. And I'm always happy I can charge across the map to revive fallen squaddie, if others can't get there..
But, I agree that some Vanguards just don't know how and when to charge, so they keep dying..

Plus, charging replenishes your shields and is meant to be your long range weapon.  Charge + Nova + shotgun + melee + charge + nova + shotgun.....etc.  That's how you play that class.  Just don't go too far off without support.

I play as a Drell so I have Pull and cluster grenades. The pull is extremely helpful to teammates who need to get someone out of cover.

I just unlocked the Drell and played around with Pull.  What is your tactical suggestion?  I love Pull for guardians.  But, I was kind of lost without Nova!  With the Drell, I tended to sit back more in support and not charge as much.  I also am thinking I need an assault rifle or sniper rifle instead of shotgun.

A few Vanguards out there are just charging mindlessly into the enemy. One turret later he is down, the team is rushing to help him and in this process is being killed by the same turret, or phantom, or ATLAS.
Nevertheless, this is just the minority for me. Most Vanguards I've encountered were extremly good team players and it is great fun to play with them.

I've played with a couple people who were irritated that I was playing as a vanguard. Of course, they quickly changed their tune when my shockwave knocked the rapidly approaching Guardians back and left them open to a hail of gunfire, or using Charge to jump across the map and send that trooper that was about to execute them flying.

High level vanguard with charge and nova makes bronze missions boring for everyone else. That's what I find annoying about them.

I suspect a nerf is incoming with the release.

Yeah...once you power up nova, a bit, you blow turrents up in one charge.

people who are skilled vanguards are crazy...in a good way ;) one time, my adept was with a vanguard (there was only two of us in a team), we managed to finish few rounds consistently alone. it was epic. he did the charging, i do the mopping and watching the rear/sides :D

I don't think they would/should try to affect balance based on how some classess perform on two bronze maps, with only half the weapons and things available. If you are finding bronze boring then clearly the answer is to play silver, not nerf things.

This. Not much more to say on that front.

I never really understood the logic behind the occasional outcry for nerfing a high risk/high reward aspect of a game, any game that is too. If you want to dumb down the Vanguard by getting it nerfed...because you can't play it as well as someone else...then why don't we just go the whole hog & only allow the playing of Human Soldier? That'd balance things, right?

Still...just recently ran a map with 4 Vanguards, Firebase White...fastest full clear I've had to date, 19 minutes. Nobody left at the lobby after the match, so we ran again. Again, a full clear, a little slower this time but cleared nonetheless. Really enjoyed seeing four big blue blurs one after the other! That said, we did spend quite a bit of time hunting for each others downed bodies...heh', high risk is right.

I can play vanguard as well as anyone else, it's not difficult to do a charge/nova combo and I have a level 15 vanguard. I'm just saying that I SUSPECT a nerf is coming, not that I demand one.

Also I never said vanguards are needed to win a game, but having a good one sure makes your life easier; a good vanguard can hold a flank alone, a good vanguard will never let the enemy execute you, a good vanguard knows when to stick with the team and when to flank the enemy.

Same here, I love pulling guardians and making them lose hold of their shields. I usually use it to help out some of my long-range teammates and to grab those annoying phantoms and nemesis when they try to run away.

Why Nerf Vanguards? That is a high risk class, why not nerf infiltrators? Clearly their cloak is imba....

All classes have their place is just a matter of knowing where that place is.

Reviving vanguards is the paragon thing to do :P

I have no problem with them, I usually play infiltrator, they charge and I snipe from afar.

Best thing is to use pull on unshielded enemies, thin the herd, then charge, heavy melee, shotgun, cartwheel away if neccissary and repeat.

I've been playing Vanguard since I unlocked the Drell and unless I'm playing with someone with an N7 rating in the 30s, I usually get the most points.

Charging around the map is awesome, but I generally try to stay close to my teammates.

I've found, especially with my Drell vanguard, that charging constantly isn't the only way to play. Lately I've been running around with the Carnifex heavy pistol, and an SMG just in case I run out of ammo. The pistol hits just as hard, if not harder than most of my shotguns so I still have the traditional option, but I can also hang back and thin the herd before charging in, if I so chose to. Most of the time though I'll usually just storm into the fray and either shoot or heavy melee my way through the crowd, saving charge for shield recharging.

I do admit that a lot of this comes from the Drell's rather pathetic barrier pool with maxed out melee fitness, but even vanguards that don't suffer such a setback could take a thing or two from easing off the charge key once in awhile.

Vanguards are usually seen as that wild, reckless class full of ADHD-riddled players who love their suicide charges; I admit, even as one myself, I always get a bit uneasy when I see fellow Vanguards in the game lobby. It took me a long time to learn how to play Vanguard properly in ME2...and I practiced quite a bit in the ME3 single-player demo before I felt I was fit to assist my teammates properly in MP.

Fellas, here's what a good Vanguard will do, and this is how you can support them:

A good Vanguard will look before they charge. If there's a Vanguard ducking in cover and not doing any shooting for a second or two? Chances are they're scoping the area for charging opportunity, and if none is present, often they'll move somewhere else and try to flank the enemy. Vanguards rarely need actual cover for reasons other than to restore their barriers/cooltimes and seek charging opportunities; personally, I always give up cover to my teammates if I'm just doing the latter.

Good Vanguards do charge, and they do it a lot. You might be asking, why the hell did that Vanguard charge into that enemy that was six feet in front of him/her? The quick answer: it keeps us alive. We get partial (or full) barrier restoration upon a successful charge; it's our main method of staying alive. We also like to charge for quick access to a higher or lower level, skipping the irritating (and possibly dangerous) ladders and drops. Other times, charging that Guardian and then quickly circling around him his the perfect way to get him to turn to us, exposing his soft, pliable back to the rest of the squad. Or some palooka is about to execute a downed teammate - until we fling him into deep space with a charge. I know it's probably annoying when a Vanguard suddenly charges into an enemy you were targeting, knocking them out of your crosshairs, and I apologize for that; but charging is an absolute necessity for our survival.

Good Vanguards won't run off to go Rambo. We're decent enough on our own, but far better in a team; we can knock down enemies with Shockwave, Charge, or Nova, and teammates can mow them down before we've even finished the animation. An Engineer's drone plus a Vanguard is a fantastic way to manage aggro. Basically, if you know how to play your class, a good Vanguard will know how to play theirs so that everyone can properly wreck collective ass.

One more thing: A good Vanguard will not want you to risk your neck to revive them. Sometimes we die no matter how careful we were with our charges, and more often than not, it's in the thick of enemy fire. Please leave us to rot - we're no strangers to dying like that, believe me, and most of us can live with the fact that we made a mistake and are now paying for it. Team surivival always > our survival.

(Disclaimer: AlphaDormante is only one Vanguard of many, and despite her usage of plural pronouns, does not intend to speak for all Vanguards and is more or less saying how she plays it :innocent:)

i like having an vanguard in my team...its a race between my asari adept spamming level 6 throw and their charge/nova/heavy melee to steal kills off one another.

It is so satisfying when my throw knocks an enemy across the map as their charge or heavy melee hits nothing but air

muhahah

I came really close to hating vanguards yesterday, we played on the White Base map, last round, extraction, two vanguards running around everywhere but the extraction zone, 8 seconds out one of them decides to die by the stairs. I run out revive him while a guardian and trooper is standing right next to me punching and shooting, I duck back into cover in the the extraction zone with 2 seconds to spare and just a tiny sliver of my health-bar remaining At least we got full extraction but...

If I had died there I would have been furious at those vanguards. When it's time to extract it's time to extract, you don't run around all over the place.

You might not like getting the Full Extraction bonus but I do, so stop dieing.

And here we have a perfect example of a REAL vanguard.
Pretty much exactly how I play it, but since I use the Drell, I make good use of Pull to thin out the enemy ranks before I charge in.
