The best round I've played so far was 4 vanguards. We destroyed everything.

Yeah, I played a few of those. Best matches I've ever had. ^_^

Fix the broken Nova mechanic and then Vanguard be fine, and actually take some skill to play well.

Not all players use that bug you know...

And to play as a Vanguard on Gold, perhaps even Silver you do need to have skill. Did you even try before saying that?

Bug or not, Nova is game breaking.  Silver is soloable with a Vanguard by around level 12.

I can play a Vanguard quite effectively without using Nova at all, and do. Well enough to get invites to join games by random people who have played with me in quick match games, anyway.

Weeeelll.. Thing is, Krogan soldiers and vanguards don't mix together all that well - both classes rely on having to be the ones to kill the enemy way up close to be effective *in their class role*. Krogans for their melee stuff, vanguards for charge-shieldregen. A lot of the time, if there is no communication (no mics, perhaps), both will choose the same target.. So unless you can get past the annoyance and understand that this kind of stuff just happens, some vanguards won't like playing with krogan soldiers.

Well, if you were using a human soldier... idk. It's not the most effective class, even for a guns'n'damage attitude, but it's not the worst either. Certainly not a reason for a kick, anyway.

One thing to consider.. a Vanguard is straight up "lemme get up in mah enemyszs face and smash it up lol yo" type of a class, or at least it looks so from some gameplay-methods. Therefore... lot of people with that kind of brash attitude will pick and play a vanguard. They won't care about synergy or cooperation, and vanguard to them seems to be the most 'uberroflpawnzorzpretty' class - especialy if you can show off in bronze levels (which you really can.. zipping in and out, kill count rising and rising.. Sometimes bronze is just plain mindless fun). So..Well, just another thing to keep in mind.

Having said all that, vanguard is still the most fun class to play. Much more risky, even if played straight and safe, but pretty 'cool' to make up for it.

I actually don't see that many human vanguards, mostly Drell.  So while the 'bug' should be fixed, I don't see how you can call it game-breaking.

Vanguards are interesting. On one hand, I can't sit around with my team to camp which annoys a lot of people who are too scared to leave a freaking building.

On the other, trying to play other classes with a reckless vanguard makes things difficult; even if they get out, them being on the other side of the map makes enemies spawn right on top of you sometimes.

They're an invaluable class, especially against phantoms, but they're hard to work with.

I tried Infiltrator recently and I gotta say, vanguards are really annoying if you are not the one playing him. Especially good ones who mess my scores up.

I hate the Vanguards with suicidal tendencies. Go right ahead and charge those two Atlases, don't expect me to save you.

If you can't keep score parity with a vanguard as an infiltrator, you aren't a very good infiltrator. Besides, you all wind up with the same score at the end.

I main both Human vanguard and Salarian infiltrator. Just tonight, I had a two player game on gold with an infiltrator... just him as an infiltrator and I as a vanguard. I watched his back and took care of phantoms and he picked me up when necessary and I saved him from getting stomped on when necessary. We made it to the end of wave 6 before falling. Infiltrators and Vanguard make a great team.

I was a terrible Vanguard this morning. I followed the advice in this thread and curtailed my high risk play style for a more conservative weapon(heavy pistol) based approach. I got owned constantly. Back to being a human bullet for me.

Too much risk to be reliable in the later waves. Once you get into centurions, they just tend to charge into a group, get killed and then whine because his team didn't manage to drain the shields of an entire 10-man enemy team in the space of two seconds. Vanguards bring nothing to the table other than the annoyance of dying all the time and blaming everyone else. Think about it this way, if you saw a sentinel running straight into a group of guardians and popping tech armor constantly, would you consider him an idiot? Vanguards run in, and then get pinned down and killed, expecting the remainder of their team to cover half a map to get to them in time because they felt the need to charge into a phantom, atlas or turret.

I played a game with the same player but he was a Vanguard (a pink one, lol). Great game too.

Straight up Vanguard answer:
If it works.

I am being totally honest with you guys, I can play more or less every class (only having a bit problems with Soldiers and Sentinels (and planning to correct that!)) and when I do, I really get into it. That means my Asari Adept will spam Stasis Bubble (and then headshot the victim with its Widow IV), or if I play the spam-set-up, then there'll be blue explosions and frozen enemies everywhere whilst I watch my mates back. I don't hold back, but I set my priorities on helping and crowd control (and what better crowd control is there than blowing up crowds with biotic explosions Image IPB).

When I play Engineer, I go all mezzer. I stand in the background and shock everything blue I can see, it is already an automatism that activates when I'm playing that class, if it's blue -> *ZAP*. I keep people shocked, defenses down and feel responsible for cleansing the battlefield off turrets (and enemy Engineers, my Engi is terribly territorial Image IPB) and picking off strays with either my Carnifex or Incinerate.

When I play Infiltrator, I either grab my trusty Widow or Scimitar and go all sneaky mayhem. But you can count on me going dark and rez'ing people that are fallen whenever it is in my power (and I do everything I can to enhance that power Image IPB). Flanking is my game and death my name. Now you don't see me, now you're dead. Mad cackling included from time to time (and lot's of "I love this rifle!" ).

And that means, when I go Vanguard, I go Vanguard. As in WTFCHARGEB00MHAHAHA! Now, I try to be the best Vanguard I can possibly be, which means staying alive as much as possible (after all, you can't charge when you're dead Image IPB). But it also means my primary way of locomotion is charge. And you can count on me, if there are some stray dudes acros the map, that's where I am gonna be the next second. Unfortunately, my Vanguard doesn't exactly have x-ray vision, meaning those few straddlers could actually be the bulk of an entire army. By then you'll probably hear a constant stream of progressively more distressing "Nonononononononononono" coming over from your speakers. Which is good, because obviously, the longer I am panicking, the longer I am yet alive and I DO have enough experience to stay alive to either run for it like hell or, depending on the size of the group and their disposition, actually come out only one left standing.

But generally, you'll hear "I got this" from me. If that is followed by animalistic grunts, groans and some mad cackling, then I just smashed some nuts. If you hear my "nononono" cascade, then it means I found the enemy and am running for it like a Drell on ecstasy. If you hear nothing, THEN you know the excrements just impacted the rotary airconditioner and should get there ASAP, because I am too busy trying to stay alive to actually do much noises other than some most probably very creative german/english hybrid swearing (most of it only thought so I am still t-rated I think).

I am however also the kind of guy of instantly warn people on threats (most naturally as I tend to be the first one encounting them) do constantly tell my mates to NOT come to rez' me because I an in the middle of some hidden turret crossfire (I HATE those friggin' turrets ... and them Engineers for setting them up. They don't come out pretty when I'm done with them!)). You can also count on me Charging that stupid Assault Trooper trying to stomp downed mates whenever it is in my power (meaning if it is in my line of sight and my cooldown is ready, that sucker is gonna fly Vanguard Airlines!) and if someone shouts Phantom, I drop everything and go all primal on their asses.

So in the end, I think I am a good Vanguard and definately someone you can play with, even if I do die a couple of times.

I've played with terrible Vanguards and awesome ones. My observations:

Bad Vangaurds:
Rush into large groups of enemies in the open with no escape plan.
Have a really slow recharge rate
Die in the middle of a turret killing fields
Die to lone phantoms that they charged to.

Good Vanguards:
Pick off a enemy at the time or a group of weak enemies, usually netting me lots of points whether I'm playing soldier or adept as they draw aggro a lot heavier, allowing me to continue firing off the revenant/powers, and causing lots of explosions.
Have a quick recharge rate so they can leapfrog around to safe locations.
Die in places with lots of low cover, where it is easy to rez them.
Can negate the ridiculousness of a solo phantom.

As a Vanguard (since ME2), I love working with the team. I do play a different style though, carrying a modded Claymore. Yes, it's heavy and screws w/ my cooldown times, but I've adapted and have no problems up to Silver level (haven't tried Gold).

I play on PC, under DarthTrey22... so if you see a Vanguard toting a huge ass shotgun and wonder what the heck he/she is doing... you'll appreciate me more when I take out 4 Guardians in a row w/ 4 shots and then zip in and revive you!
