I dont agree with some of your points (like grenades), it felt really smooth throwing grenades. The rest of your points are for the most part correct however i still think mass effect is better because it has the biotic element to it, which makes gameplay that more complex then just running into battle with a gun..

Something tells me you've never actually played Gears.

dumbing down the RPG elements like the first ME doesnt help it to make ME3 any different from Gears of war.

heck it even uses the same engine as gears of war 3.

Alot of games use the unreal engine you know... http://en.wikipedia....Unreal_Engine_3

I have no real problem with Gears. Never could get into the series but I have no problem with it. Honestly though if you want ME3 to be a clone of Gears, why not just go play Gears? I like the combat in ME3, it works for the game. Sure Gears has a good combat system too, but that works for it. I think Bioware did a good job of making their own system. Plus ME3 is more than just combat. Its fine if thats what you play it for, but its not only what I'm playing for. I'd rather not see the exact same combat system that gears has in ME3. Variety is the spice of life.

i m trying to say that, reducing the classic RPG gameplay elements (that made the FIRST Mass Effect great), will make ME3 look like a Gears of War spinoff with multiple choice question.

i love Gears of war and the First ME, because both have unique gameplay experience. After playing ME3 demo, ME3 feels like a corridor based shooter just like gears of war.

I'm not going to try to compare ME3 to GOW, or any other game for that matter. The animation/mechanics seem tailored for RPG style exploration, not heavy combat. ME3 attempts to do both. 2 years or more ago (ME1/2) this was passable. However, by now, there have been too many great games that more successfully bridge the gap without the horribly awkward combat feel I experience in ME3. The combat mechanics were in dire need of overhaul after ME2, it's disconcerting that Bioware didn't recognize the need.

Also: no controller support on the PC version? Do I need to quote Seth Meyers here..."Really...no...REEEAAALLY!?!" This game is screaming for a gamepad to the same level that CIV5 screeams for a mouse!

Mass Effect's only mistake was promoting the spirit of the Gears generation with their combat.

If only to prevent subjective "This isn't as good as X" type of stuff.

They pretty much had no choice unless they radically changed the design of the series. Both ME and GoW have:

-a third-person viewpoint
-shooting as an essential component of gameplay
-a cover system
-AI squadmates
-the same game engine (Unreal 3)
-a combat roll (as of ME3)
-a sci-fi theme

When you take all those similarities together, comparisons to Gears are inevitable.

I don't actualy know about that. Gears of War has good variety of enemies who all fight in their own ways. And coop in that is pretty amazing, it covers campaign and Horde mode (which has randomized waves and boss fights, you can build stuff and even buy a mech).

I am kinda on fence about this.

But about the gameplay, the controls aren't as good. Gears of War has it's problems too, omni-directional sprint SUCKS and causes me to do die a lot. And this cover/roll on same button doesn't work so well... Good thing Gears3 lets you pick another control scheme.

I have GOW3 and the ME3 demo and I prefer the ME3 demo, so I know I will like the full out game even more since the demo itself is keeping me away from my addiction to GOW3's Horde Mode, lol. But I will say the cover mechanics, grenade usage, heavy melee attacks, and squadmate recovery are all superior in GOW3. These aren't things that can't be and hopefully will be improved upon on in the final game and furthor tweaked with patches.

Gears you can actually Co-Op the storyline which I liked cause you can progress from area to area instead of just running circles around same map.

Completely unfair comparison. Just because they utilize similar gameplay mechanics does not mean they can judged by one another. Mass Effect, Gears, maybe even Deus Ex....all third person shooters with a heavy emphasis on cover, yet completely different games with different agendas. If you go into Mass Effect looking for that sort of experience, then you're overlooking a key aspect of Mass Effect. That's not directed towards the OP mind you.

But to be fair, the cover system in the demo at least is very poor, even if the sell of the game to most peeps, me included, is the story.

Going by the PS3 links in your signature, you're never actually played Gears.

Let me use your logic for a second. *clears throat*

Killzone sucks! Mass Effect>>>>>>>> Killzone

Go back to your pew pew Halo rip off FPS.

(I don't hate the PS3, this was merely a sarcastic reply to Calibrationmaster)

It certainly allows for slight discrepancies when ME has an entirely different focus than an out and out shooter.

What entirely different focus?  ME is 99% shooting.  That is it's largest (and really only) mechanic.  Just because you have cutscenes where you make choices and hub worlds to walk around doesn't change the fact that everything is resolved by TPS mechanics.  Given that I really wish they would have improved them.  It doesn't come close to the fluid feel of Gears or Uncharted.  Everything mapped to the same button is horrid.  In tight maps you can't run around without getting sucked into cover and unlike the other games mentioned you can't change the buttons.
