Greetings all.  Hopefully I have this in the right forum.  According to the book you gain a specialization point at levels 7 and 14.  When I hit level 7 I was unable to assign the point I received to any specialization slot.  I tried others and was unable to assign the point there as well.  Since then I have gained more levels and each time I am unable to assign this point i have just sitting out there for a specialization.  I didn't see any stat requirements but I've been dumping my stats into the appropriate categories for a rouge, or so I thought.  Any ideas on why I can't assign this point?  Could I have just skipped not assigning it at level 7 and as a result I need to wait till level 14 to assign two points?  I'm not having any issues getting through the game on normal but I just feel like my character isn't at his full potential since I'm unable to assign this point.  Thanks.

You have to unlock the specialization from NPC's before you can assign, so far i've only unlocked the duelist for rogue, but the other specializations are out there, you just have to find them.

Yes specializations need to be unlocked.. either by getting companions who have that specialization to like you enough to teach it to you.. or in some cases all you have to do is buy a book from a vendor.. such as Ranger.. there is no one out there who teaches you how to be a ranger... Other ones like Blood Mage can only be learned if you complete a quest by doing things a certain way.

Once you unlock a specialization it will always remained unlocked .. so any new character you start a game with will have those specializations you unlocked your first go through. ..

Actually it isn't nessearly 'A new character' but even characters you currently already have created. like the bard specialty that I unlocked with my human noble rouge (That I got from haveing a high relationship with Leliana btw ^_^) carried over to my dwarven rouge that I created a few weeks before I obtained it and my city elf rouge that I created as my third character when the game was in it's first week of release. the human noble rouge character was actually created a week after my dwarven rouge was created.

Well sadly you need to reach a certain level to obtain 'Specialty Points' as well. That's odd that you didn't get the point at lvl 7.

I've notice this as well. All specialisations seem to carry over. You will see them when you are putting points into attributes they are just above them. You need to click on the specialization for it to register, them put points into attributes, it will then take you to skills screen then talent screen, you can put a point into a specilaization once in the talent screen. But remember,

You must first pick a specialization box when you are in the attributes screen.
