Actually to the northeast of Lothering, near the land mark tree you will find a kind of mound to your right. At the edge of the lake heading eastward behind that mound, you will find giant spiders. They drop toxin extracts when you kill them.
Proceed carefully. There are a lot of them so you want to break them up. Sneak up and pull them to you one at a time.

or just fireball them. I learned my listen after my first game. Chooose an aoe CC (cone of cold) and aoe damage spell (fireball) as early as you can. It made Lothering so much easier. Those bandits were tough my first time around, second time much easier (although the ones in the corner were still tough because they had a mage).
