I JUST bought the game and installed it yesterday. I'm at the battle where you light the becan for the tower... But after I group up with the two new members to go up to the tower a few mobs later it has an error of some sort, checks for a solution and sends it then it continues to "shut down" the game EVERY time I reach the same place. What the hell is going on its pissing me off.. A brand new game should NOT be doing this.<_<
Game shuts down

What are your system specs?
Are all of your drivers up to date?
What version of the game are you running, Steam, retail box, etc?

A re-install is probably a good idea, too, if you haven't already tried that.

Windows vista 32 bit
amd athlon 64 x2 dual core processor 5000+ 2.60 GHz
3070 MB ram
and I recently installed a new video drive. NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT
I have the settings all turned down, I've never been one for MUST have great video in front of me.
It's retail box from a store.
I haven't tried reinstalling yet... but I received no errors when it was installing when there is usually a problem during the install process.

What's your nvidia driver? Have you tried optimizing your game experience by using AMD Fusion Gaming utility, I play using this peace of software and no crashes whatsoever. What's your AMD driver version 1.3.2.0? Are you using amd dual core optimizer?

I don't know to much about computers technically, only when i need to update a small part to make it work I have to admit. I'm just a girl haha. So I'm not quite sure what a "AMD Fusion Gaming utility" is or my AMD version.

How do you have the Ostagar achievements (and the Chanter's board one) if it crashes there

It takes tries, but I get past it eventually.. its just frustrating that it keeps crashing 10 times before i can get past a part. Mainly cut scenes.

Kinda impossible to diagnose without details. System specs, temps, driver versions etc.
Constant crashing is often heating issues though, are the fans and heatsinks clean?

I'd agree with that- constant crashing in random places is normally a heating or other related graphics issue.
However, crashing in one, specific, repeatable place is normally something else (unless that place causes your graphics card to go into overdrive).
I had a really similar problem at Lothering and a re-install sorted it out. Admittedly, I have had some grumbles with the installation itself, which it seems you've been lucky enough not to. Still, its definitely worth a try - just make sure you back up your saved games first.

i have the same problem with my 9800gtx, i found if i just turn down the graphics (not resolution just texture settings etc) i can get passed that problem then restart the game with the graphics turned back up..im not sure which specific setting is doing it.
EDIT: btw.."a brand new game shouldnt be doing this" doesnt make much sense...as new games generally are more likely to have bugs over older games and its not as if a game suffers from wear and tear

The crashes always happen at cut scenes. I know its not over heating. I keep my fans regularly cleaned because I get a lot of dust in my house. I'll try reinstalling next time I get a chance before playing again.

My game is shutting down in Lothering, too; has done so 3 times in the last 2 hours. It's not only at cutscenes, either, or anytime around area transitions. Just totally random. There's no error screen or Windows sound. It just...closes.
Weird thing is, this is my fourth playthrough, and it's never happened before. Drivers are up to date, fans are clean, etc. WinXPsp3 (2GB), Nvidia 9400GT (1GB), all available DLC ~ of course these are the exact same specs I've used for the first three playthroughs. Driving me nuts.

Given that the video card is below the minimum specifications, two and a half specs of dust in the GPU cooler heat sink's fins might be all it takes to make the poor little thing croak!

Join the club, there's a growing number of players that recently have started having huge problems with constant CTDs and it's NOT heat related. Somewhere in the mix patch 1.02, RtO, Nvidia and Win 7 (64) something ugly has arisen.
