I noticed in the demo that shep now Auto hacks.  While I found ME 2' hacking 'game' to be very annoying, and ME 1's hacking game to be frustrating, I'm disturbed by the complete removal from the game.

Unless it's just pulled from the demo.

Thoughts?

I was surprised at the odd 'auto hack' style thing. But i cant say i'll really miss it over all. It was really annoying most of the time :P

It only added a sense of urgency when it was use coincided with something that had an actual tangible reason to get to whatever is being hacked, like hacking terminals to stop engines from exploding in one side mission or other. Hacking for loot got abit meh. I recall leaving alot of random loot containers in ME1 because i got sick of doing it constantly.

I know, but it was an RPG feature. I realized that it sucked, but I wanted them to FIX it. Make it fun, you know? Instead they just dropped it entirely.

Something akind to Deus Ex: HR hacking system might be viable, if somewhat reduced where applicable. I still found that mind numbing after the 50th hack though.

I'm actually glad this happened. As much as I enjoyed the ME2 hacking and bypassing, it still got tedious considering I'm always a completionist about getting every possible thing to leave no stone unturned.

^Would have been better if they scaled it so when you were higher levels you had less nodes/codes to find.

I hope it is gone. I want action in the action sequences. I wouldn't mind seeing a more intricate, more entertaining hacking mini-game introduced for the non-combat sections. That I could enjoy.

The combat sections don't need to have their flow interrupted, imo.

I liked it in ME2 but it got tedious after awhile. With ME3 seeming to take on a feel of more urgency i'm glad they took out stuff that tended to slow the action down.

I have to say I actually did not like the hacking in ME2 at all. Everytime I saw a box or a safe I got annoyed that I had to hack again.

Of course, some people like this feature, so I think it would be best to have it as an option in the options menu.

Loved the hacking/bypass minigames. Although they were all too easy, I never got that they were tedious. Sad to see them go, but the fun "RPG" elements are leaving a lot of games these days.

The mini games were fun in the first one like the side mission from the downed probe with the nuke installed and the mini game you had to do or the VI in Noveria Peak 15, i did like the hacking/bypassing in the second game for a time but it's been burnt out for me for a while now it truly has become tedious so i welcome auto bypassing now, hope they have some mini games though.

If they had implemented a work around like ME1s "just slap omnigel on it" for ME2 that would've been an acceptable solution. I absolutely hated the minigame's in ME2.

In fact, the autohack featured in the ME3 demo would've worked in ME2 for those subsequent replays when you just didn't feel like connecting dots or copy/pasting script lines.

If there's one thing I won't miss from the ME series, it's the god awful forced hacking like ME2.

You forgot the Captain Obvious posts too. Like yours. And this one.

Now it's officially a BSN thread.

While I'll miss the hack/bypass mini-games (I'm a freak,) I'll gladly accept the auto-hack if they give us more unique mini-games like they did in Noveria.

I loved all the hacking stuff, saddened it got removed for a dumbed down version.

I'm pretty sure these doors that "need hacking" aren't designed as such to make us happy we're hacking. It's just data being loaded, and instead of sticking an immersion breaking text that says Loading in our face or putting is in an elevator where we can't move, we get to waltz around waiting for a door to open. It's very Metroid Prime-y.

And I quite like it tbqh.

I prefer auto hacking instead of non-tech shepard making Tali looks like she's not useful like in ME2.

I'm not going to miss hacking/bypass minigames, they got boring after doing it for the 10th time, I'd rather have minigames that are worth doing

Engineer and Infiltrator AI hacking should involve a quick mini-game I think. It was too easy for Tali to just keep that Geth Hunter shooting his buddies ad infinitum in ME2.

I never skilled AI hacking as Infiltrator but I can imagine it's a bit of a game turner against Geth and Mechs. It should be made more involving, rather than an omnitool that already knows how to hack things.

I was going to start a thread about this, really I didn't mind the ME1-style hacking minigame, and I even liked the change to ME2's.

I'm really disappointed that this was done away with. They could have made it an in-engine Dead Space-like animation with something akin to the PC ME1 hacking game.
