I was just wondering what my chances are of getting to level 30 in a single playthrough. Since I have a PS3, I don't have the experience boost to level 5 from a ME1 playthrough. So I started off at level 1.

I have purchased all the DLC, and am planning on doing everything I can, including scanning every planet, doing all the side-missions, etc, etc

Do you think by the time I complete LotSB and Arrival (after I finish battle w/ Collectors) I will be up to level 30?

You can hit level 30 in one playthrough very easily. If you plan on doing all those things, you'll probably hit level 30 way before you attempt LotSB and Arrival.

Really even without an ME1 playthrough? From other threads I've read it seems like it would be kinda tough...

I was able to do it but only after having done absolutely everything, including all DLC including Arrival. I did absolutely eveything there there was to do and that was available on the blu-ray (e.g. ME2 and the three DLC it comes with) as well as what came with Cerberus Network (Hammerhead DLC and side quests, and Zaeed and his loyalty mission).   Did all missions (main quests, recruitment quests, loyalty quests, etc), all assignments (all N7 scan missions, all side quests, etc), and all DLC except Arrival (using Mass Effect Wikia site to make sure I had done everything).

Yet despite all that, when I beat the game (which was the absolute last thing I did since all side quests were taken care of before attack on the Normandy by Collectors), I was only level 29 with 260 Exp points to go to level 30.  Decided to buy Arrival and that doing that helped me get to 30 in one playthrough.

I don't understand where people keep getting this "It's so easy to do, you'll get to it with missions to spare".  I've read that you get an experience boost after beating the game on the same file you played, so if you save as many side missions (Assignment quests) or DLC until after you beat the game, you'll get to level 30 easier, though I have not confirmed this.  I know the experience boost applies to new playthroughs after your first one, but I was unable to find confirmation that it works on the same file on missions and quests done after beating the game.

(It's also interesting to read the posts that come afterwards)

Being the completionist I am, everything was done before beating the game, aside from the Arrival DLC, which means no experience boost.  If what they say is true, simply save as many DLC and side quests (Assignments) until after the end of the game.  That way, you won't have to bother with most of the pointless N7 scan quests.  But even if you're like me, it is possible, but you just pretty much have to do everything.

I import my characters, but never a level 60 character, so I start at level 3. But I've done playthroughs without any DLC and still hit level 30 well before the final mission.

Did you have a profile that finished ME2? The 25% XP bonus is HUGE. Standard missions that gives 1000 xp will be getting 1250. So you doing 4 missions will be equivalent to the OP doing 5 missions.

I got a new PS3 so my old playthroughs are gone unfortunately. I believe right now I'm at level 23 or 24, with one loyalty mission, 4 more planet-scan missions (I think), the final collector missions (including the IFF one), LotSB, and Arrival still left to play.

One problem; in order to receive the best possible ending, without anyone dying, I am going to have to ignore Legion's loyalty mission, since if you do any missions between the Reaper IFF and going through the Omega 4 relay, half of your crew dies.

So to get the best ending, I will have to neglect one mission at least, so I'm not sure I'l make it all the way to level 30. Has anyone else run into this particular problem?

I don't understand why some people claim they get to level 30 well before the final missions. I'm a  bit of a completionist myself and have done almost everything I can do and it is still looking like I will just barely make it (if I do make it at all).

Can anybody confirm that you really do receive more XP for missions completed after defeating the Collectors? That would help because right now I'm spending a lot of time scanning planets for all those side-missions. I appreciate all the input, it's been helpful.

No, as I explained in the other thread, just have everyone (or all but one) loyal before doing the IFF.

As mentioned, how easily you get to level 30 depends on DLC and xp bonuses from achievements. In a first playthrough with no DLC you may not reach it, but if you have both things is easy to reach it before the latest missions. So, it depends.

I have all the DLC but this is my first playthrough on the new system.

Does anyone know if I gain any kind of experience bonus for defeating the collectors? I thought somebody had mentioned that I'd be better off waiting to do side missions until after I defeat the collectors in order to capitalize on an XP bonus you get after that mission. Is this true?

Well, that relates to the achievements. Finishing that quest gets you the achievement for completing the game, granting you an XP bonus from then on, even though you can continue playing afterwards. If you already have those achievements, there should be no difference.

If you want everyone alive, make sure to make all loyalty missions before the SM (technically, you could maybe leave one or two and still manage to do it, but it'd be complicated). The other sidequests don't matter, do them whenever you want.

Thanks man. Also, I accidentally sold Legion to Cerberus this time through (whatever I'd rather have the extra credits) - that isn't gonna affect the trophy for getting your team through alive right? Because he was never actually a part of my team.

Well I just realized not having done the Legion loyalty mission might have ruined my chances at getting to level 30. I just finished the main part of the game and I think I'm at level 26 or 27. Still gotta do some side missions and LotSB and Arrival, so I'm praying it'll be enough!
