Mantis. And only mantis. Don't bring anything else. Sure, you can use whatever you like on bronze, but if you want to eventually beat gold, mantis is the only way to go (until you get widow).

What happens when I get swamped and my cloak runs out? Pray?

Meh. If you have a Mantis X/Phalanx X loadout, your cooldown for Tactical Cloak will last just about as long as your reload time.royard wrote...

Actually, I've been using the viper a lot. Pretty useful as well (short reloads, 6-mag, endless amounts of spare ammunition and about 60% base mantis damage). Works better as a marksman rifle since you aren't absolutely useless half the time (when you're reloading). If you have disruptor or cryo ammo on, I'd say it's even better than the mantis (first shot staggers/freezes, second shot to the forehead finishes them) and if you have the damage buffs of a adrenaline rush or, in your case, the tac-cloak, then if you get them in the head it won't really matter much (since even if they survive you can follow up with a second shot before they can do anything).

If you get swamped, you are doing it wrong.
Other classes get swamped because they need to burst/continuously fire their weapons and don't check their surroundings. An infiltrator cloaks, shoots, and reloads. The time of reloading/waiting for cloak to cooldown is an excellent oppotunity to do a full 360 degree scan of your surroundings, and take appropriate action.
Also, carrying more than a mantis/widow will make your cooldown long. If you just cloak, energy drain, shoot, and reload while just carrying a mantis, you will be one sidestep away from cloak regens. Just run around a bit and you will be fine. If you like being dangerously close, you can intentionally run close to an enemy to trigger their "draw baton" animation (and run away, obviously) to futher reduce harm.

I never found the use of sidearms for salarian infiltrators. You need to spend 1-2 seconds switching you your sidearm, but by that point your energy drain should be ready, and you simply hit your enemies with that and they won't be a problem anymore.

You have a very valid point. I didn't realize the potential of ammo power on viper. However, I still have to say that Mantis/widow is the better solution on higher difficulties, simply because you will have to use your gun to kill one atlas while under fire of another atlas, or spawns of phantoms. Viper, while valuable, can't fire a second shot before cloak fades.

Question, is it worth picking the Widow X over the Mantis X? Not a fan of how much the Widow weighs.

I'll give you that. I suppose that with a soldier (with their adrenaline rush damage buff) and with turians (with their 20% damage increase) it'd be more effective, since you aren't placing all your damage and powers into a single shot. Both seem to be valid options for non-infiltrator snipers.

It's worth it to pick Widow I over Mantis X (on gold). On silver, mantis is somewhat better due to reduced energy drain cooldown and the fewer number of atlas present. On bronze it's really whatever.
Silver is where the two guns are more or less euqal. I mean Mantis X and Widow I, since Mantis X probably can't compare to Widow X (because Widow X can probably hit +100% cooldown, which is what you need for salarian infiltrator).
I can't put my finger on it, but Widow really does more damage when it hits the orange canopy on atlas.

Actually, I think any other class will be better off using Carnifex. Carni is more powerful than Viper, weigh less, has a higher fire rate, and just as accurate. And it can be hip-fired reliably.
