Why couldn't they just make her a hologram instead? Like Avina, but with a different look.

At least it's an improvement over her 'look' in ME2, which was basically a sphere with blue female genital 'lips' that opened and closed every time she spoke.

Probably because then she would just look like a VI and seem less interesting by comparison.

I get the feeling some Halo nerd is going to want to RP out the scene in Halo 3 between the Chief and Cortana...

What a bad cliche to make teenage testosterone boys go high... EDI was original because she was an AI and not a robot. Geth are original because they are NOT humanoid. Now here comes sexy EDI with all the electronic sexy toys Joker can muster. What a joke! Oh I hate this. As a 36 years old guy I am not the main demographic of video games anymore... :P

I don't know, as a near (depressingly near) 35 year old, I'm honestly quite amused by the idea of EDI in a body. The reaction of the Quarians and Geth if she is in the squad when you meet them will be entertaining if nothing else.
That said the gendered body does seem a little redundant, since as per the geth, an AI wouldn't have a biological sex or gender (unless programmed to have one...which might explain EDI I suppose). But then I imagine the majority of people would have seen an androgynous artificial form as seeming 'male' by default, which would jar with EDIs clearly female in game voice and well known voice actor.

As for whether the player or NPCs get to scrog it, well, rather tame objections when we consider in ME games you can get with jiggy with aliens (hell Kelly got jiggy with a varen!), the gender bending in DA:O and in other gaming universes the suggestions of 'Code Blue' (to quote the infamous TSOL song) love in the Elder Scrolls games.

Am I to assume you sold Legion to Cerberus then?

No, actually.  While I don't like AI, I feel like what cerberus would use it for is worse then reactivating it.  The Geth are already in existance, and shep has killed many geth, what is one more even if he were to turn.  What I mean is that I think it would be a bad idea to create a new form of powerful AI.  Once you give AI's bodies, activists will try to give them rights, and then there is no turning back.  My descisions in ME2 were to dessimate the heretics, re-activate Legion, and shut down Project Overlord, becuase AI CAN NOT be controlled, the only safe option is destruction.  I would raher defeat the geth in a military victory than re-subjugate them.  That is why I did not present the evidence to Tali's coucil.  I sided with Han'Gerrel by having the quarins go to war to take back THEIR homeworld, but through a military victory, not through Daro'Xen's risky reprogramming idea.  I don't want the galaxy to regain control over AI, I want it to destroy AI.Image IPB

Yes, Edi is a squadmate. She has the same lines as other confirmed squadmates such as Garrus and Liara. The lines are in relation to obstructions on the battlefield. If you browse through the demo files you can hear the lines for yourself.

I think I read that EDI will get some kind of robotic form at some point in the game. I doubt BioWare will allow us to romance it.

Why not? She was easily romanced when she was a Cylon.

Amen.

I don't see the big problem people seem to have :s

Putting EDI into a physical body is an amazing idea in a combat view. An AI on the battlefield? A /real/ AI, geth are just connected VI. Should be interesting.

EDIT: Forget my Geth statement above. I'm not sure if Geth have only the illusion of AI when networked or soemthing else.

What do you mean, the mistake of the Geth creation or the mistake of attacking them?

Or the mistake of makeing the Geth slave labor? Attacking them wasn't a mistake. The Quarians had no idea they were sentient till they started asking questions. Then what are they to do? The Geth were slaves naturally they would rebel. The Quarians attempt to deactivate them to prevent a war/slaughter but failed.

Exactly.

Creating the Geth was not a mistake, fearing and attacking them was.

The Geth didn't turn on the Quarians, the Quarians turned on them.

EDI is for Jeff methinks. Shep will wonder by the cockpit which is sealed for some reason and Shep will place his/her ear to the door and hear mischievous giggling and Jeff asking for his hip not to be broke but to keep going and Shep can let them have their moment or Shep can interrupt the moment like Jeff did akin to when Shep and the LI were next to the locker in ME1 just prior to going to Ilos.

The Joker-EDI romance is just mean when so many people have been holding out for their Shepards to get with Joker (where else would you get the chance the virtually bang Seth Green??). If they really wanted to do the EDI thing, they should have made both Joker and EDI be LIs, and if you didn't go with either of them then they end up with each other.

It seems that they'd rather troll their straight female Shepard players instead of giving them what they want.
