Starter Pack Needs to Guarantee New class

Despite this, I think that much of the frustration could be removed in a single change.
Yes, it's annoying when I've received two to three times as many Thermal Clip Packs compared to Medi-Gel when I never use Thermal Clip Packs and Medi-Gel is useful in almost every other game. It's annoying when my Assault Rifle levels up and the sniper I'm using gets ignored for hundreds of thousands of credits at a time. However, the most frustrating thing by far, is not getting new classes.
The classes make you feel unique. You aren't just a Vanguard; you're an Asari Vanguard. You're a special version that not many people have. Instead those people have Taurian Sentinels, Krogan Soldiers, and Quarian Engineers - which is fine. Maybe the guy with a Quarian Engineer wanted a Krogan Soldier instead, but at least he has something cool to play with. Except, the majority of people you see actually have nothing but default classes. Personally, I had to get over N7-30 (most of which was grinding Silver on one high level class) before unlocking a single new class. This was the vast majority of my free time for two days. I understand that this isn't much in the grand scheme of things, but I'm a college student who has other things to do with his life.
I think that having a new class at the start is very important to enjoying the game. I personally don't care much for the Krogan Soldier, but if I got one when I started playing, you better believe I'm going to use it. I don't care if I think the Salarian Engineer's kit looks kind of derp on paper; if I got it when I started playing, I would have used it right away to see how well it really measured up. But I didn't. I got nothing but redundant unlocks for classes I already had for hours and hours and hours, which isn't my idea of a good time.
All I'm saying is that you should have a single, guaranteed new class when you start playing. I don't mean an alternate gender or a new color option for a starting class, I mean an entirely new class with different abilities. You get to start out with something special 100% of the time. It may not be exactly what you want, but at least you get a reason to feel unique compared to the hoards of other new players. This single change will make the randomness far more tolerable in general.
Randomness is only fun when you actually get something cool once in a while, and right now, it can take far too long for that first "cool" thing to come along.

Wait, where is the starter pack and how do I open it? I never got one.
When you first go into multiplayer you get one, I can't remember if you have to go into the store screen or if it comes up right away, it's been a couple of days.

I kept on getting training for Human engineer though so I gave it a whirl and liked how I'm the only one that has camo on my armor and such. Also a fun class to play with my Phalanx pistol which doubles as a sniper rifle.

I got Krogan soldier and never touched it, not a fan of the playstyle.

I thought I would hate the krogan, but I fell in love with the sheer power of his melee. When you can instantly kill phantoms with your charge, even with full barriers, its just the power trip I need to get me through the day.

Make more expensive packs that guarantee a new character/upgrade.
Say, 50000 credits?

I think I read somewhere that the full game will have more expensive packs with a guaranteed chances of better stuff
Also, this is only somewhat related, but since my human female vanguard is level 20 and I have all the appearance customization options already, please stop giving me human female vanguard xp/customization cards.

I think it tends to give you things you play with.
For example, I was playing with nothing but soldiers, so I was using a Sentinel almost exclusively. I got a Turian Sentinel unlock. I began using him with an AR and Sniper. I unlocked up to a Viper VII and a Mattock X.
I went Adept for a bit, I got an Asari shortly after.
Then I went Engineer, got a Quarian.
I've been tring in vain to play soldier a lot and get a Krogan, but haven't gotten it yet.
I didn't use pistols or shotguns much, and got very few of their upgrades.
EDIT: BTW, bonus points for you for the RvB sig!

According to BW, there's a reason we still get class cards past Lv20/max customization, that will be revealed in the full game.

Yeah, the Basic pack should include one character unlock. First time i booted MP, i got the Krogan Soldier in mine, and i thought everyone got a character in theirs as well. It would make sense to do it this way.
Wow, I also got the Krogan Soldier, though I don't remember if it was my starter pack or the first Recruit Purchase I made, but after that I was very surprised to see just how sparse class unlocks actually are...since then I've only gotten the Female Engineer...and I have never played as an Engineer...
Though I do like the 'loot' system that's in place right now, giving a purpose to all the credits the classes not unlocking can get annoying.

Not to mention it does give a rather good feeling. You're starting a new game, but you have something that's good. If not a character, maybe a rare weapon, like the Widow. It might not be what you wanted, but you know that you at least started with something that somebody wants.
