After playing this dmeo for a while I've started to see its flaws. More so than not being able to move as fluidly from surface to surface (Gears 3) or the fact that despite me only buying Vet packs since Wednesday I haven't gotten a single new character, no problem is as big as the matchmaking. Bioware is my favorite developer and Mass Effect is my favorite series so I want them to have the same level of polish in multiplayer that they have in single player. I need to know will the retail build have any significant changes to the matchmaking system or is it the same? If not here's a list of things you can change to make it an amazing game.

Here are some really obvious problems:
  • You cannot search with a group. This is any multiplayer game worth playing and is absolutely vital to me continuing to play Co-Op. A game centered around Co-Op in fact needs group searching more than a game like COD or Halo where you can be a lone wolf. This is my biggest problem with multiplayer matchmaking in its current incarnation.
  • There are no restrictions for difficulties. I have gotten into so many Silver/Gold games with players lower than level 6. These characters simply cannot pull their weight. It would be so simple if you made it so Bronze was for everyone, Silver was somewhere between 6-8 plus, and Gold was 14 or higher.
  • Transitions. There's so much loading between screens and you rarely get into a game with sufficient players. Please make it so going back and forth between lobbies and the main screen is seamless. Reminds me of the elevators in Mass Effect 1.
  • A time limit. This is the only thing I think is my opinion everything else is an actual prooblem with the game. I think that adding a time limit to the lobbies would really help with people who are AFC (away from controller) or just taking a really long time hitting the ready button. Something decent like 60 seconds after joining. Really you shouldn't spend most of your time customizing in a game lobby anyway I think Bioware should focus on customization in the main menu primarily and some small tweaks in the multiplayer lobbies.
To anyone who thinks I'm just complaining or nit picking, I'm not. I honestly can say I love Bioware but despite that, in fact because of it, I want them to do better with this games multiplayer. Agree on every point or think I don't know what I'm talkiing about? Anyway let me know what you think.

Don't agree on level restrictions. Despite all the butthurt it appears to cause people (because video games are serious business) people should be able to play on whatever difficulty they like. It really depends on the player anyhow. I started (level 1) on silver, and I did just fine (though I admit I made more assists than kills), and the first time I got to the last waves of gold rank I was level 11, and the two others were 12 and 14, respectively.

Who's to say that you won't be able to search as a group in the actual game? It has Public locked which leads me to believe that you will be able to search or play in a private room.

People shouldn't be restricted from playing just because you don't want them in your silver or gold game. If they feel like getting stomped with their low level players, that's their choice. This isn't vs. so if they want to test themselves, more power to them. Yeah it sucks if you get into a game with them, but to say that they shouldn't be able to play it because they basically suck, I don't agree with that.

The option to kick is fine with me. Sometimes if you get beat and then go back to the lobby you want to adjust your character to hopefully have a better outcome next time. If 3 people are ready for like thirty seconds and the last person hasn't done anything, then I think the timer should start (10 sec.) and if they still haven't done anything it kicks that person while starting the game.

The only thing I don't like about the MP is the absolutely gorram-fracking annoying "Connection Lost" issue. At least tell me up front, don't make me wait through two 2-minute loading screens, only to tell me that there was no point!
Also, servers being unable to cope with a Host-Transfer. Those two really burn my waffles.

I enjoyed the elevators too actually. It's just the silence aspect and the fact its loading and loading that irritated me.

There needs to be a better matchmaking system that matchmakes players based on N7 skill or effiecency in completing or getting far into challenges.

-You can create private lobbies, if you want to play with a group of friends. And if there's an empty slot, you can make the lobby public, once your friends have joined.

-Lobby leaders can kick players, they should just kick any player that they think is too low level.

-There are a few loading screens but they're incredibly short that I don't even notice.

-Again, lobby leaders can kick players. If they're taking too long to ready up, kick them.

I should add I'm playing on the PC. Not sure if it's any different on consoles.

-Except setting a player made match to "Public" doesn't put it into the quick match listing all it does is enable your friends to join without an invite.

-That varies on the power of your pc and if you're on a console the average is 15-20 seconds (least in my experience on the 360)

-True but that doesn't solve the problem of if it's the leader who's taking too long

I wouldn't stop low level players from creating high level challenges, but I would agree with your suggestion of stopping them from searching for them.

I will agree with needing some way to force a game start. I've kicked a play more than once because they joined just as the game was started and then spent 30+ seconds not hitting the ready button.

I love the co-op gameplay but the matchmaking system needs to be improved. I don't understand why a big company such as Bioware is unable to host dedicated servers for a game like this? Valve does it for Left4Dead. So, why can't you too? Also, why is there no chat box in the lobby for the PC version?

I'm finding the matchmaking system a real PITA at the moment. I've gotten into basically two matches out of numerous attempts. I either get dropped from the server or wind up getting matched into games with people who 20 to 30 levels higher than I am. I'm also having a lot of trouble getting Origin to make friend requests for me although that's an EA issue, not a BioWare one.

I definitely don't think they should be restricted to their own games. Searching is my only concern. That way they can still play Gold among themselves...at level 1.

There also needs to be an option to chose your region when searching for a game. I don't want to join laggy games overseas. This is especially annoying because of the way the equipment system works.
This is why i never equip more than one item on a character when joining a game.

I hope the actual game comes with an option to search for character levels or N7 ratings or something. I don't even occasionally mind playing with newer, low-level players but I have to be in the right mood.

Text chat in lobby for PC would be great too.

I agree with everything the OP has said (and would also like to add that we need to see pings in the lobby) except for this. We can't have this.

When you're with a group and need more time to upgrade/buy/switch charaters/etc., this would be a problem. When you need a quick break between matches-- which can last between 20-30min with neglegible breaks during-- this would be a problem. In general, imposing a time limit would cause a much bigger hassle than it will fix.

The only thing that bothers me is the people who don't press their ready button. It just makes me think of some young kid whose mom asks him for dinner and he goes there, leaving his game running or something. Or someone starts to play around with their character colors.

But it just might be that these players have lagged out.

They should just put a 1 minute timer there, would fix everything.

firstly the biggest issue to me is the netcoding, second is the sticky wall issue, then comes the multiplayer. I want BW to prioritise changes in this order, as multiplayer group forming is not as game breaking you have to say right?

what I dont understand is, why most of the time when you enter a multiplayer game the group is incomplete and sometimes youre put into a game by yourself, as in matchmaker could not even find ONE person to join. incredible. cant matchmaker run long enough so that it has at the very least the correct number of players for a game? since it doesnt balance level or anything atm. during this time it can show you the group forming process with info such as players found/in lobby while searching so you know the game hasnt frozen. an in game lobby would be nice to, so players can form their own groups for higher level difficulties OR you could restrict player levels for certain difficulties (but im against this for challenge reasons) but again ppl prob complain about high level scrubs so best leave the group forming up to players.

I really want to be able to see my ping, in the lobby and in the game. Also, why can't we see what class our teammates are once we're in the game? The escape menu should show names, score, ping and classes.

The whole system needs to be improved for launch if it hasn't been done yet.

For instance I noticed that if your group doesn't fill up during the first seconds you joined it, there's no point to wait for more people, you won't get them. The game should merge public groups when it's possible: if you have 2 groups of 2 people just merge them. Another example, I can't count the number of times we were waiting for a 4th and at the same time the number of times the number of members dropped to one - me - that's a case where I should be automatically added to a group of 3, I shouldn't have to wait forever (which I did only once).

It leads to the situation where you have better luck finding a group by hopping from one to another... And don't get me started with the hassle to find a group for a Gold.
