Why is Origin being required for EA games such a big deal?

Obvious troll is obvious (registration date). Surprised hey didn't lock the thread.

But basically what was said, although there has been improvement since the time Origin was launched long ago...

Problems generally are:

-forced use on third part of series, pure respect-less move if there ever was one.

-the client is terrible, and slapping Origin beta on the top of the client window doesn't make it acceptable

-data collection which can't be opted out of and has pretty much EAs right for free use of content as per EULA

I'm surprised he hasn't accused everyone who doesn't like Origin of being pirates yet.  Unless he did and I was just too bored to notice.

It's hard I know Image IPB

Some reason Turnip likes to have some vegetable related name and well if you the Sega Dreamcast was the worst console ever you will know it's him for sure.

I think people just like to think they're rebels and they think speaking out against Origin makes them sound all cool and counter-culture like they're sticking it to the man.

And I think you'll hear no complain whatsoever... from people who will be playing ME3 without Origins at all. Only paying customers are entitled to complain as much as we want. The others, well, they will have no reason to.

I am far from being an EA fanboy but I don't see a problem with Origin personally, since that clause for scanning your PC has been removed.

^This. So much this. Also, OP, look at these topics involving Origin. Seems like lots of players are having issues playing their games on Origin just because the damn thing doesn't work properly.

Because EA is a big corporation and is thus: EVIL! Now a days people just don't like big corporations, some have good reasons to, others are just hateful people who will find a reason to hate anything EA does.

Infact Valve does similar things for Steam

I'd like to also mention that Origin has also made it impossible to play the ME3 demo, ergo the game itself because of this. Due to my video card, it's impossible to even get past the menu screen. Have you ever seen a game played through steam and seen a message in-game that says "Sorry, you're somehow not logged on to the program you're running. Bye."

I'm really considering just renting the game at this point. You know the overused "Pre-order cancelled" meme? Well, that may have to apply here.

Plus, Origin is just a mere copycat of Steam, only uglier.

This and its annoying like hell, one of my friends is playing the demo and tells me every 30 seconds that this person is playing it... Geez i got it after reading it the first time. :|

^ I don't care about origin telling me if so and so is on - I can deal with that. Dropped games, and Origin being down in general tends to make me unhappy. It happens a lot - far more than what I would consider acceptable.

I understand that no system is perfect, and that its a catch 22 - valve/steam or origin. No one is going to be happy all of the time - we all have our favorites. Frankly, they both suck in my opinion. I just want the thing to work properly.

My main concern with Origin is that it is "Beta". This website is also "Beta" and full of issues for the past 2 and 1/2 years and they never fixed or released a final version. Origin will probably never have a final version. Beta is a nice excuse for EA o not fix all the damn bugs, glitches and issues their website and "download and DRM manager" have. I mean, this website is also EA's, isn't it?

Plus it is awful, funcionality borderline junior high computer science project. Origin, I mean. Professional stuff, imho, is Battle.net and its in game friends list chat system. And it also works as DRM and it is rare for it to have issues other than maintenance. I've been on it since 1997 and I can count on my fingers the times when it was down for some other reason. Never played WoW though, so I don't know how it went for that game. But Steam? I never used, I never will.

I'm afraid of that too. It's been about a whole year now and I still have a ghost update floating about on this site... -_-

Never had any ghost updates myself but I hear you can PM an admin to get rid of them. The site has been beta for quite a while now though. There are some parts that seriously need more work, like page skipping on a profile comment wall is pretty primitive. All it needs is the ability to jump to the last page.

I like GOG a lot, but call me when they offer games made after 2007 (the Witcher excluded).

Oh, and here is a good one:

Any KB key I hit minimizes the Demo to the Desktop. On multiplayer, it has happened enough to make me worry. Like once every two or three days. I know it has something to do with explorer.exe (exiting the game and Origin, end task and re-running explorer.exe fixes it) but it never happened without Origin or ME3 demo.

So what is Origin or ME3 demo doing with explorer.exe exactly?

Origin reminds me of when Steam first came out. Buggy and just getting in the way of me playing the game. Now Steam doesn't usually get in the way of me playing games, with the exception of Civ 5(which refused to install for a period of several months for some weird reason). Origin however, I can't even login sometimes. That was the case last time I tried to get on to play the ME3 demo.
