Why is Origin being required for EA games such a big deal?

I'd be fine with Origin if EA weren't preventing their games from being released on Steam. I wouldn't even mind if the games required Origin still, if I could simply make my purchase from my preferred digital retailer, Steam.

I find Origin very unnecessary and annoying thing.

If you don't like piracy, block their sites ... but people don't like Censorship of the internet and will rebel like idiots!

If origin gets some other vendors and offers some interesting deals. I'm all for it. Steam is great but competition garners innovation and steam has had none for nearly 10 years.

As far as the logins go, I don't see it as being an issue. It's the exact same EA ID we had to use to login to ME2, DAO and DA2. So the actual game experience in that regard is exactly the same.

Edit: On a side note, origin requires online connection at every use. With offline mode, steam does not, as long as you have the games installed and ready. You can use origin's offline mode, but only after going through the connection phase in the first place.

No, Origin does not require internet connection to use it after first sign-in but if you are online it will connect automatically.

You don't have a way to tell it to go to sleep?  That's messed up.

You do have an offline mode.
