I think there IS some hidden methodology behind it, not pure luck. I received the Drell vanguard, Salarian Infiltrator and the Asari Adept only after getting their respective class to about level 10. And, after five days of playing and only getting new races, today I got: three Widows, a Revenant, two Carnifexes and the Claymore, all in quick succession. And I have no idea why. I'm convinced, however, that there's some undercurrent of logic to the system - it's too... well, not random.

Hrm... worst luck. Just a few minutes ago. Tried to buy the 20'000 Credits Pack and suddenly the server said "Something wrong with the buying" (or something like that). Money gone, no new items...
Besides that I had luck with unlocking the Drell and Turian so far. Hoping for the Quarian Engineer, just love these drones/turrets (even though I have the feeling just spamming fire and anti-shield works better in the demo...)

They are a terrible idea. I have my soldier maxed out, and don't want to play as my Salarian or any of the other humans, and just want to unlock a gun, so I keep playing in vain just to get something useless. It makes me not want to play rather than continue playing. When your game relies on terribly programmed random unlocks to keep your players interested, that's a sign of bad game design. Granted, the game is fun and is incredibly fun, the lack of proper unlocks takes away from that fun.

HOLY MOTHER [several expletives]! That is insane. I'm pretty sure that 99% of people do not have any of those. I do believe there is a small logic to it, like I got my Scimitar upgrades after using the Scimitar a lot, and my Assault Rifle upgrades after using my Avenger a lot. However, it's still incredibly broken, as when I do unlock things, they're ridiculous, as I previously stated.

They seriously just need to have Equipment Packs for like 5000, Weapon Packs for 10,000, and Character Packs for 20,000. I doubt anyone would not like that.

I got a Turian Sentinel in my starter pack and a widow in my first vet but it went down hill from there until today when I unlocked Krogan Soldier, Tempest and Mattock so my luck appears to have turned around.

All I get are training upgrades (12500 XP) for the basic classess. And lots of ammo and inventory stuff... to pair with STARTER weapons. I was lucky, I think, I got Mantis sniper in the starter pack...
It was untill yesterday I unlocked my first alien - asari adept (lvl 16 to start with iirc). And I play fom the early acces day buying exclusively vet packs. Go figure.

I've gotten almost nothing but the expendable bonuses. I've got so many I could use them all for about 20 play throughs and not buy a pack and STILL have more left.
After buying about 12 Vet packs and I don't know how many Recruit packs I've only managed to unlock the Turian Sentinel as my other race in that class, a class I didn't play before I got the Turian. My Adept is level 7. I have NOT played an Adept once, and I only have the default in the class. Same for Engineer, only he's only level 3 or 4.
I did get a few weapon upgrades and choices, just enough to make me viable in Silver matches FINALLY, but this system, at least as far as random rolls goes in the demo, is TERRIBLE.
IF this is how it launches, I won't be playing it to unlock anything, because I won't get much at all and am going to be frustrated, not playing hoping to open a random pack. I've put at least 15 hours play time in (probably much more as I'd been playing multiplayer instead of The Old Republic) and only a few of those were failed matches. So what did I get for a reward? Not much. Everyone else I know on my friends list has the Widow at least, and between 4 and 5 race unlocks. I have 1 and a meager upgrade on my standard sniper rifle and a lone Turian Sentinel.
I know my luck is terrible, but this is getting ridiculous. This is not how you set up a reward system for people who play a lot.

At this point in time i've lvl 20'd Infiltrator and Adept. after buying vet pack after vet pack, recruit pack after recruit pack, the most common item i have gotten is the female human infiltrator. Which would be fine, except that I've already maxed out her XP and character armor customization.
It's like gambling with a loaded deck, and i'm the big blind....

Seriously all my friends have at least one other race unlocked. Hell, yesterday my friend's brother downloaded the demo and out of curiosity I told him to buy the starter pack to see what he gets. He ended up getting a Krogan Soldier. I've just about had it at this point and it would be sad if I don't unlock anyone by the time the game comes out.

My Quarian Infiltrator has all customization options and is a level ten through her experience unlocks. I haven't played as her once...I have bout a bunch of the new premium vet packs with no luck and rare packs just to keep getting the graal spike thrower, a weapon i used once and do not like. If there is a system, I do not see it.
