Since multiplayer opened up we've only successfully played one match. We have opened the 3 ports suggested in the sticky (One is on the current last page.) It makes no difference. Usually one of us can connect at a time. With a router restart which of us can connect switches every time. The one game we got to play my husband hosted.. our friend joined.. husband left... then both of us joined on friend and it worked. We cannot repeat this scenario.

I can't join my husband's games. He can't join my games. We can't play quick matches (We are never given players it times out.) Sometimes I can join the friend and husband can't and sometimes he can join and I can't.  We get the "can't connect to friend's game" message or "game is full" message.

Is there any hope? We love ME we are dedicated friends and we really really really want to play multiplayer and can't figure out how to fix it.

~Desperate,
Ivy

I wonder if it is an IP address issue?

Try re-positioning before establishing a connection.

I have no idea what you mean, could you explain please? As for it being an IP it -shouldn't- be a problem? Our friends share an IP address and they have 0 trouble.. only us. We're desperate, getting cranky, and really disappointed.. Our friends are N730+ and we can't even play.

Is your husband's computer visible on the network? For instance, can you ping his computer using the command prompt and his IP address?

We share the same IP. He's currently playing the multiplayer. Our friends were able to join him, but I cannot play. I can't join them, I can't do quickmatches. I can only play by myself in a self created game.

Sounds like a firewall problem to me or a port forwarding problem. You should play around with your router settings. 192.168.1.1 is the typical address for a router.

We have quite a few ports forwarded including all the ones people have listed here and in the sticky. I don't think its firewall as sometimes he has full access and sometimes I have full access but never both of us.

Help please? An update on the situation: There are four friends A B C D. A and B cannot connect to each other (That is us, husband and wife) A and B and C can't connect to each other. However A and B and C can all connect to D. In other words if my husband and I want to play we have to hope our friend is playing. If our other friend wants to play with my husband and I, we still have to hope the OTHER friend is playing. This is awful.... husband and I can't play together, friend and I can't play together, husband and friend can't play together.. and it really sucks when the one NON broken friend doesn't want to play.. we don't get to.

Also, occasionally the husband can connect to quick matches, but I cannot. The ONLY way husband and I can both connect to our "Normie" friend is with our firewall turned completely off. This is miserable. Can anyone be of any help? We're so looking forward to ME3 but all our friends want to play multiplayer (we do too) but at this point we're screwed.

If you are on the same network assign two different static IP addresses for each computer. Or open the DMZ/disable firewalls on one computer and have that one host.

This probably isn't your problem, since you and your husband are able to play with one of your friends, but have you tried checking whether or not there is an internal IP address conflict? That is, have you checked to see if your router has assigned both your machine and that of your husband the same IP address (e.g. 192.168.1.101) on your internal network? Sometimes such a conflict prevents both machines from accessing the internet simultaneously.

I don't believe it is possible for each to have our own IP address due to our network setup?

this sounds like a classic ip issue. If you share the same ip then the separate games aren't letting you play on the same ip. Are both computers connected via a modem or is it wireless?

I assume you use a standard modem and router? You can visit portfoward.com it even has a freeware device that will make your machine's ip static at the click of one button.

I don't know how similar Steam and Origin are in coding/networking, but Steam has its own port for its client and when two machines on the same router are running Steam they can't play together in matchmaking because Steam thinks that only one computer is there because there is only one port being used. The work around is to assign one computer to 27000(default port used) and the other 27001 and voila Steam's client realizes there are two machines on the network and will work as such and allow them to connect to one another.

Origin doesn't have a setting that lets you change the port that I'm aware of nor do I know Origin's port, but that is something to consider.

To get the obvious out of the way: have you tried rebooting both computers and all networking equipment involved?

If that doesn't help, try to give us a detailed description of your network setup.

Using a router, or windows internet connection sharing? If router, what's the brand/model?

What's your firewall situation? Windows firewall or something else?

When you set port forwarding on a router, you typically specify a particular IP address to forward them to, meaning they would only forward to one of your machines. How do you have that set up exactly?

What ISP do you use?

Since you're on a network, your machines have more than one IP address. There's the external IP address, which is determined by your ISP, and which is what the outside world sees. Then each machine on your network also has an internal IP address that is usually assigned by your router automatically, and is only known to the machines on your network. If two machines on the same network share the same internal IP address, it causes a conflict on the router, and only one machine will be able to use the external IP on the modem.

There is a way to assing Different IP addresses on the same network, for me to help you I will need to know what Kind of router you are using, how many pc are connected and how many ports are open. All that information can be found in your router if you open it;s web page. On the back end of your router is the address for the router.

We'got the same issue today, were sitting on vent 4 of us trying to make a game that all of us could join. Usually 1 or 2 could join, but not all 4.
We even asked a 5th guy to make a game for us and quit, 3 got into his game. After he left on the 1st wave we got a random guy joining our PRIVATE game. We died and kicked the guy, and our 4th got the "game is full" message with clearly 1 slot open.
Spending an hour just to play gold with a team of friends and failing = GG.

We all play from our homes, all different IPs. Just to point that this issue has nothing to do with a home network, it's server-sided.

Actually, I disagree, since I'm assuming the OP is attempting to play with her spouse from the same home and therefore, most likely, the same network and router.

ME3 grants access via a Client, and having a single network/router address accessing two different accounts at a single time most likely isn't allowed or at the very least has the potential to cause some issues, as the OP is describing.  So yes, while 'we' all play from our homes via different IPs etc., these are two people attempting to play at the same time from a single network/router connection.

I know because I had a similar problem a while back, though it wasn't gaming related.

So here is Thor's rundown,

1) Is ME3 the only Client dependant game you guys try to access at the same time? If not, have you ever had similar problems?

2) Are you running both computers on the same network?  On the same router?

3) If yes to 2, you might want to try verifying that seperate/unique IPs are being issued via the router to your computers.

The problem You seem to be having is not An IP conflict nor server related. Try to creat a private match and see if it works. Also try to assign diferent ports to each computer when playing the game. The problem is that the router memory buffer can handle only so much on one port at one time, so if each computer uses different port on router, should resolve that issue. Also it might be an origin related issue in that case that both demo's or games were downloaded to same ip. and it only allows one to be played at time. Also Your plug n play on your router might be only set to one computer, not both. And also seems to me that your computers seem havin atrouble of allowing hosting the game.

I play the game with my wife in the same house, same external IP. The only connection problem I've had is that my brother (in another city) -sometimes- can't join games that I host
