mostly its about bringing the right classes, sadly.
No. No it is not.
One asari adept is sadly mandatory for dealing with phantoms, but the remaining three spots can be filled with just about anything.
It's about positioning yourselves well and watching your teammates' backs more than anything.

You can beat Gold just fine without Stasis.

We were prepared this time. It's a four part video, I'll link the first one. I imagine it should be pretty easy to find the other three. We had the obligatory asari, a salarian, a soldier, and myself as the turian. Enjoy.

Tried it today initially with 2 salarian infiltrators, 1 asari adept and another human infiltrator I think. Then at wave 5 or 6 the Human infiltrator (or another class, can't remember) got disconnected, we had to hold the line with only 3 people D: Managed to reach wave 11, with just 5 seconds to go for full extraction... amazingly a happy rocket-spam atlas managed to find its target at us. Extraction zone at Firebase Mars (or the non-Noveria) is a bit difficult than the other. Fun times though

I'm kind of scared to try Gold xD Tips for a salarian infiltrator/asari adept please?
Asari adept - be aware of your surroundings. see a phantom, statis bubblem em'! then combine powers with throw or vanguard charge. always stick with a teammate. watch the flanks and always check the corners.
Salarian Infililtrators - cloak+energy drain is your friend. max your abilities to improve your power. proximinity mine's a bit difficult to aim. you're basically the medic of the team
Apart from that, good luck and most important, have fun! ^^

Here is a video of an Asari's POV on Gold. My sig as has Salarian videos as well. We also won with the hacking mission being on the LZ on wave 10.

Very intense experience, we were almost wiped at wave 8 but recovered and pulled through. It's crazy how many phantoms this game can throw at you at once...

My tips:
You really have to stay together.
When there is an Atlas, focus on the minor enemies, cause the Atlas is there just to get your attention. It's very slow, so you can run away easily from them. Cant say the same about Phantoms or turrets deployed by engineers.
Run! Run Forrest, run! Don't be afraid to kite. You will need to. If one area is getting too crowded, just run like crazy for another area where the enemies will have to go after you. As they are coming, the team will (must) kill them.
Don't go Rambo, not even the Vanguard. Not even a Krogan soldier with every points spent on fortification and health/shields boosters.
Kill enemy engineers as soon as possible, because the turrets will do more damage than anything else.
Don't try to face turrets like "This is Sparta!". You will die. Instead, use overload/warp, then incinerate.
Phantoms: stasis, overload, charge.
High level weapons will help you. Ammo and armor powers too.
Voice chat isn't really mandatory if everyone knows what to do. But it helps a lot.
Save your missiles. You'll need them on wave 10 and extraction. If possible, leave them for extraction.
Forget about killpoints. It's not CoD. It's not BF. If you are just trying to kill the most enemies, you probably wont be helpful for the team. It's all about coordinated teamplay.
On extraction, stay on the extraction point! If you die outside the extraction point, the entire team will have to leave too, and probably everyone will die, cause there will be at least 3 Atlas, 2 turrets already deployed at key points, 4 Phantoms, lots of guardians closing up on you, a handful of nemesis taking your shields out with their sniper rifles, and the other enemies which I dont remember the name...
Oh, and don't make like I did with my engineer: I spent my points on powers that boosted my shields and health. Spend them making your weapons/powers more powerful. You will get health/shield boosts anyway and your weapons/powers will deal more damage. As I said, I went the opposite with my engineer (lv 20), and my sentinel (lv 12), which I did the right thing, is more powerful than him.
Try to have fun, the game is supposed to give you funny times. If your squad lost the match, do another one, dont fight over it.

We camped out in the corner of the Noveria map. Other guys (Quarian, Krogan and Human Soldier) held the line incredibly well, reviving each other quickly, my Asari Adept lurking at the back was thus able to spam Stasis and Warp/throw Bombs with impunity.
Lucked out with the final objective - data download at the same place we'd been defending the whole game.
edit: We'd got to wave 10 the previous game. Might have done it then if I hadn't screwed up my Cobra firing.

Anyway, during the second Gold match in Firebase White we made it to wave 10 and we got a disable four indoctrination devices objective. Which meant waves upon waves of Phantoms, Atlas Mechs, and Turrets until we finished the objective. Unfortunately I had Charged into an enemy strangely during the last part of wave 8 and my character was glitching. T_T I managed to take out an Atlas before the glitching got really bad and I could no longer take cover properly and I promptly died, got teleported five feet into the air above the landing zone right on top of a Phantom and Atlas and then I promptly died again. We wiped with just one last device left.
And those are my stories of my first two Gold matches. I think we did pretty well getting to wave 10, though I wish I could have actually helped without being disconnected/glitched during the last wave. To be honest, I did the lousiest on the scoreboard. I need to learn to play better with my Vanguard. T_T
Oh, as an aside, during both matches I got stomach stabbed by a Phantom. Jerks.
