I have been playing a Krogan soldier since my starter pack and have equipped him with only an Avenger for most of his career, it kicked ass no doubt. But recently i unlocked the revenant and screamed for joy as it could only be 100% better than the avenger due to it's serious weight and rarity...
But then i tried the revenant and it absolutley sucked against anything that wasn't a mech. The recoil was all over the place and i could only manage to get head shots with pure luck. I was getting nothing but assist when i ussually get nothing but kills. And on top of that, due to it's weight i couldn't spam carnage to knockdown enemies anymore and do decent damage.
I have yet to unlock the mattock but based on my singleplayer demo, i don't really care to. And i haven't seen anyone with the vindicator(my favorite ME2 rifle) so i doubt it's in the demo but hope it's in the full game.
So for now i gues im going to continue using my trusty avenger.

I got the Krogan Soldier just today and it came with a Mattock, which I now use, and a Claymore. The Mattock seems to be a little nerfed but I think with a few upgrades, it will be overpowered again.

The Reverent, especially with vanguard to get up and personal and unload a whole clip in everybody.

Definitely the Mattock. Not because of how it's balanced, but how it's just so much more satisfying to repeatedly tap my mouse than holding it down.

I don't know why people hate on the Rev. I'm able to get kills with it easily. The best part of it is it has enough power to down someone up close with hip fire if an enemy catches you off guard.
That said, my favourite is the Mattock though.

The Avenger is actually much better than ME2 especially once upgraded, it makes for a good starter and balanced rifle.
Otherwise I use the Mattock, I just like its semi auto fire and power.
