I kind of don't like that Action mode is up top. Mainly because your average person who never played ME is probably going to click it without giving the options a full read. Or clicking it to avoid being too complicated with a level up systems and states (which word RPG alone suggests), while still being a fun shooter (which Story mode suggests it lacks). It's just another example of trying to direct the new Gears or COD players.

When it comes to choices, they might think they're really sacrificing infamous style choices. Where you made a choice at the beginning or end of a mission.

then its a good choice since the CoD players get what they want and the ME fans who read get what we want

ummmmm . . . R comes before S, you do kno that right? clearly the pic shows it going Action mode, Story mode, than Rpg mode

In the picture I see, it goes Action, RPG, Story.

soo maybe he changed the picture, or...

It's the two extremes (all combat no dialog and easy combat all dialog) with the balance inbetween...kinda like Paragon/Neutral/Renegade in that order in the "Background'/"Psychological Profile" part

The thing is, it's not good from a game's identity and strengths. The more you try to do everything or please everyone, the more other things suffer.

Example, in order to make Action mode work the cutscenes must work as non-stop cutscenes, with no interruptions, and well paced. Meaning those scenes need to be written that way. Which could be the reason why we're seeing a lot of lack of choices, or long scenes of Shepard doing his own thing, without our control.

Action-wise, since players want to keep fighting, combat must happen more frequently. Meaning the game is more designed to have more combat moments occur. Like instead of a long trial, we're cut straight to the point of escaping Earth.

Except you can bring up selection menu while Shepard is still talking, pick an option you want, and Shepard will keep on talking continuously - somethign that was in game since ME1.  so its not like they have to do anything extra, just code the game making a choice instead of the player - I'm not sure ts that dificult of a code either

as for the long trial, it couldn't have been more then 15 minutes (becasue honestly, even the most hard core fans will start fidgeting at that point) and putting the plot of 2 games into 15 minutes is... well, we saw how Genesis turned out and it was just one game.

Shepard never talked for 2 or more mintues without any control though. He's doing that now.

Another thing is them making the game for new comers. They've already said they added new dialogue for people who never imported. And dialogue ain't cheap, and most fit without seeming like an bad insert.

If someone isn't reading things, then maybe this isn't the kind of game for them to begin with. In which case gears mode is the right choice.

I have other complaints, but they were already expressed in many other threads. This issue hasn't come up before, so at least be glad that I'm not posting repetitive crap.

Besides, why exactly is my complaint "sad?" The least you could do is explain yourself.

When I played the demo, I realized the order that the campaign modes are placed in. I wasn't too estatic over the multiple modes, but I don't understand why Bioware decided to put action mode above RPG mode.

At each "end" you just have the two extremes with the "best of both worlds" option in the middle.

That's what I thought. There's an explanation of each option when you go through the menu, so it goes from action mode to action-RPG mode to RPG-where-you-happen-to-shoot-at-some-people mode. And I can kind of see a reason for each, even though the last type is the kind I prefer.

Also: THE ALPHABET. It's been said before, but at least in the countries that use the Roman alphabet, A goes before R which goes before S. I don't know if editions for other countries have a different order for the menu. In any case, it seems to me like alphabetical order is the kind of neutral order that people wouldn't be able to find an issue with. Theoretically.

As for code, they've already said they designed it for a movie experience. A mix of Renegade and Paragon choice. You can't just program random choices, and expect the new player to like it. You have to program a specific directed experience to make it work for the action mode player. Otherwise, the character is inconstant.

I think it's a fair point. I don't understand why so many people are acting like this complaint is stupid. It seems that this board is divided between defenders and trolls, and anybody who falls in the middle is attacked by both sides.
