Is this  www.gamespot.com/news/bioware-head-writer-leaving-gaming-6350626 going to affect Mass Effect 3 in any way?

Was he actually done with the story before leaving? Was he even working on Mass Effect 3 at all? Or was that handled by other writers?
Could someone please clear this up.

Sorry if it's old news, i couldn't find it around here.

He left like...last week.

The game has been gold for that long.

This. He's been working on SW:TOR since before ME2.

To me, he 'left' Bioware long time ago when he left Bioware Edmonton (the ME team) to work on The Old Republic. In other words, he wasn't involved in ME3 in any shape or form

If I remember correctly, he left in the middle of the production of ME2.

If he's the writer responsible for the Old Republic, then good riddance. The writers of the Old Republic totally ruined the KOTOR storyline, especially with what they did with Revan.

Something about leaving a sinking ship comes to mind

EA: "Hey guy, have a nice life!"
Drew: "Yeah, you too. Hope Dragon Age three turns out...well." *giggles*
EA: "What?"
Drew: "Uh, nothing. Bye!"

Drew never worked on the Dragon Age series...

He's been semi-retired since he started work on TOR anyway, so I kinda think he'd been planning on this for quite a while.

He's also responsible for setting up the lore in ME1, so might want to rethink that "good riddance" part.

He also worked on ME1 if I remember correctly. Seems like certain key players of BioWare before EA are leaving them one by one. Indication of anything? I would think so.

He also pretty much wrote Revan and most of the dialogue for KOTOR.

Its an indication of him wanting to concentrate on his writing career. He's been writing more and more books and wants to continue with that, including working on his own franchise. If he had left Bioware to work for another game designer, then it might mean something. But he didn't. He left the video game business completely.

That's what they all say. Book career, child rearing, yada, yada, yada.

Good for him. I appreciate the work he put in creating the Mass Effect universe. Without him, I'm fairly certain there wouldn't be one. His ME novels were great and his Bioware work overall has been a positive influence on the lives of many. May he find success in his future endeavors.

No kidding.  He's been the creative force behind so many games that I love to play.   Anyone pleased with Drew's departure from Bioware just doesn't understand.

He also kept working on Mass Effect as a co-writer.

Mac Walters is the lead writer in ME2 and ME3, but Drew is still a co-writer in both games.

Drew cooked up the original ME script too for the whole trilogy - I will miss him being at Bioware, but I wish him well in his future work :)

Well, I wish him well in all his endeavors. I'm not nearly bitter enough about the current state of BioWare to say anything less, meself.

After reading his most recent novel "Star Wars: Revan", I think its about time for him to leave.

The book felt like he just didn't want to write it. It read like he was dragging his heels and didn't really care about it all that much. The names, and situations were a lot more contrived and the dialogue wasn't up to what I'd expect from him after reading some of his earlier stuff.

I do find it hilarious that TOR, the "story based MMO" that was supposed to bring MMO's into a new era, has lost its head writer. It was almost as sad as when one of their project leads, Gordon Walton, left last year without so much as a public statement.
