Increase your defense significantly. you'll take 25% less damage with the base fort

After you turn it off you get melee buffs for a short time depending on how you upgrade it.

I think it lowers incoming damage for a short time, not like the Shield Boost function it had in ME2.

It last as long as you keep it on.

I just put one point in for +25% damage reduction. I'm only bringing it up to level 3 and skipping the final level of rage.

It also increases melee damage for one time only, by "purging" it. Pretty much, meleeing with it activated gets rid of it, but makes your attack very strong indeed.

I don't think anyone really knows how the skill works.

Great job to whoever wrote the ****ty skill description.

It's actually pretty simple.
During the first 20 seconds of activating it you get a melee damage boost, all the other effects are permanent as long as you keep it activated.

The whole description is pretty confusing to me. I made the mistake of leveling it and noticing it really didn't add much to my games.

note that when using it, your recharge time for all your other powers will be longer until you deactivate it. Pretty much the only tradeoff.

if you activate the skill you get damage reduction and as soon as you turn it off (the CD is triggered) you get a melee damage boost. I tried this many times and confirmed it.

and if you read the discription properly you will see that it says you get those energy plates and then those PURGE the energie is transfered to the gauntlets.

Playing the Krogan Soldier, I leve Fortification on most of the time, except at range. When I see that I'm going to be pinned down in a lengthy firefight, I turn it off so that Carnage recharges faster.

Other than, when moving around, and especially when charging into Melee, Fortification remains on.

Ah ok. I just tested it also and I can confirm that is the case. That's actually how I assumed the skill worked anyways.

An interesting thing to note is that you can turn it back on and still retain the initial melee damage boost. The CD is really low too.

So if I wanted to charge in to melee down an atlas, I would want to turn OFF my fortification right before my first heavy melee attack to do the most damage?

*Update* ~ Okay yes turning off the Fort before going to bash in Atlas does make it stronger.
