I love my combat drone to death. It's great for distracting shielded enemies, crowds, and heavy mechs. But I also love Quarians to death. I have not unlocked the Quarian Engineer (or, seven veteran packs later, ANY alien race for that matter), so I haven't gotten a chance to try out the sentry turrets.

Are they anywhere near as good as the combat drone, better, or worse? And how best to use them most effectively?

Worse.

Worse, worse, worse, worse.

Instead of them following you around and you being able to easily place your drone anywhere, you throw it like a grenade and it stays in place.

They are far worse just because they are static and have an extremely low rate of fire which is pretty damn stupid considering it is called a turret, it would look way more awesome if it would have longer fire bursts like Cerberus turret does. Instead you just get rare spurts.

Also I can't stand female characters in games so I won't play as quarian.

To fix the sentry turret they would have to have a reliable rate of fire/dps and range.
It is completely ruined now as it is, both in SP and MP.

Sentry Guns can deal more damage. I'm quite into the Engineer class and am having a blast with playing ME3 multiplayer. Sentry Guns are more deadly than glowing orbs and they don't run off in battle and leave you to fight alone ("WHERE THE HELL YOU GOING, GLOW BULB! COME BACK HERE! NO! NO! ATLAS MECHS!!!)

Turrets are poor...until you upgrade to a flamethrower! Then throw it into a pack of troopers, Centurions, Guardians etc and watch it go. Super quick damage to health, just spam it against enemies and rack up kills and assists.

Yeah, Sentry Turret isn't that great until you unleash the flamethower on enemies!!

But that's exactly what I use the drone for. Distraction. It's great for the enemies carrying the damn door shield. And busting up crowds is great. I can even send the drone in, RUN AWAY, and get at least one kill.

I'm kind of sad to know that the turrets will suck. I wish that that was optional.

Indeed. While they are, undoubtedly, lackluster in the early game, Once you level them up and get the flame thrower or rocket launcher, they will wreck face. Toss them behind enemy lines and watch the chaos. Also sidenote; after looking into the forums apparently I'm ungodly lucky in the fact that I got a Quarian engineer card in my starter pack.

also; just toss one behind a guardian. the flamethrower easily takes it down in a matter of seconds. and if it turns to the turret, well then mission accomplished.

Flamethrower turrets also work great against enemy turrets. Will take down their entire shield and leave armour at one or two bars.

Yes, you most certainly are. Although I got a rare class, Salarian Infiltrator, with my booster pack, I find that that is an AWFUL combination for me and my playing style.

At least we can all agree that regardless of what you use, Drone or Turret, Having a vanguard jump in and smash all your kills in a single nova is quite irksome.

Haven't had that happen to me yet. I always get paired up with soldiers and adepts. I never see another engineer.

As a human engineer, I've had the opposite reaction. Nova hits air because everything is already dead from Drone + Overload + Avenger spray.

Also, how is cryo blast? I love Overload to death.

Overload is infinitely better.

Quarians pretty much suck.

I also prefer drone as it can take more damage it seems compared to the turret which is always taken out quick.

Dammit, Quarians are my eternal favorite race. Well, maybe things'll get shaken up on full release. Still holding out for males.

The turrets are much worse unfortunately. Not to mention you don't get overload and overload is good.

The flamethrower/rocket upgrade makes the turret pretty good but still not as good as a fully upgraded combat drone IMO.

I hope it gets buffed sometime (after the game comes out most likely.)

eh. My turret isn't really that squishy. But it all comes down to playstyle to be honest.

I would have liked it if the turret was a bit more..imposing? I like the quarian but overall the class isn't that great, guess I will just have to wait until full game for my Salarian engineer.

Played from start with a starter pack Quarian Engie, and I can say (imho) turret is almost useless until at the very least the CC sneering upgrade. Maybe it's the demo AI, but mobs seem to do not care about it.
Instead they face the drone when it starts bugging 'em.

Still liking it more than drone for I know exactly where I put it, and whatnot I'm leaving unguarded if I summon it back in another place.

I'll agree 100% on that. I have no idea why they decided on a mini UFO.

I'm going to start building up an Infiltrator class. I have a Salarian from my starter pack and I'd like to put him to use. Which weapons would you recommend?

I got the Quarian Engineer in my starter pack and I haven't used the Sentry Turret at all, partially because I have no idea what it does or how it works. That and it doesn't seem to be one of my quick select L/RB powers, which are the only ones I use.

At least, I don't think I've been using it. I can throw grenades, right? O.o I've been chucking *something* over my barricades all this time...

Yes, that too, and now it is not only not that, it also has these lame short spurts of fire with long periods of not firing.
