Why is Kaidan so much more popular then Jacob?

Jacob is my favorite char in the MEU. I liked Kaiden too. People complain about Jacob, then turn around and quote half his damn lines, and finish by saying they are indifferent to him. That is the popular line to write. They say "I just don't care about him" as they found the topic and took the time to comment. Heck they say he was a jerk to Tali, ignoring that she gave him shyte through the whole damn scene. I think it's become popular culture to say Jacob was boring. I can't think of a single line from grunt, thane, jack, samara or Miranda that is as memorable as anything Jacob says. Who else gets quoted like Jacob? What... Impressive? The guy is great for ME lore. I like Jacob, Mordin and Wrex. I don't even do love interests stuff. I don't play for the dating sim aspect. I play to kick the bad guys right in their daddy bags. Now that is quotable!
Nice to hear this kind of opinion exists:D
And for the usual *Kaidan whines* stuff:
Never heard him complaining all the time or see him shed just one tear.
Tali on the other hand.....

I think those who like him knew someone similar in real life; they have a template already that they're working from, but for the rest of us, I think it's harder to connect with Jacob.
Plus there are a lot of Tali fans out there, and Jacob is like, "Introduce yourself to the ship's AI! Herp de derp... what geth tragedy? What is this kwor-ee-uhn thing you speak of?" *facepalm* not to mention "the priiiiize..." when he seemed too decent and thoughtful to say either line.
Yeah, it's hard to view him as who he's supposed to be because of weird little moments like that. He seems like a character that was given too many thrown-in lines that don't suit him just because they wanted to have *someone* say it.
He never really shows any vulnerability, either. With Kaidan, we get the headaches and the picture of him as a little kid... we don't see the little boy that Jacob was, we just hear him refer to the fact that his father was a good father once, and considering how awful a person his dad is, it's not convincing.
His character could have been so much better with a tighter, cleaner, fuller representation of who he is--better development would've turned him into a much-appreciated rather than a much-disliked character.

because Kaidan tells you about himself while Jacob doesn't say thing about his past. That and to me at first he's open with you at the start but when you start flying he shuts you out.
Pretty much, Jacob starts out upfront and open and then becomes distant and stand offish... and doesn't change even with the loyalty mission... granted the team in Me2 didn't seem to gel like ME1.
Both have the accusation of being "boring" Ie they don't have the raging dysfunctions so people forget them... even though shouldn't being normal make you stick out if everybody else is nuts?
Kaidan for the most part is a reasonable down to earth guy, granted he is the pro Paragon human as opposed to Ashley's more renegade leaning. Kaidan for the most part is himself with you, he doesn't really change-unless you sway his views to your side- Kaidan is IMO the most put together of the squadmates.
Jacob... You don't know Jacob, it's like they wanted a normal guy but then decided everybody on the ship needed issues

Why is that?
Because he's black.
That is obviously no reason because people love Anderson and he is black too.
Anderson acts white, he just happens to be black, much like Colin Powell.
He acts white?
Are you retarded?
People love a badass african-american

Jacob actually has a pretty touching romance, but because of the whole Priiiiiiize fiasco, people weigh that over the whole romance arc, which is sad.
To be honest, I never found his romancesoooo terrible like everyone told me.
For me the most terrible romance was the one with Garrus, from the start.

Dont forget jacob had his own game...and saved the citadel too before he even met Shep. Thats probably part of the reason he didnt bow at Sheps feet when they first met. He was like so what, i saved the citadel before too. Not an average thing to do in the ME universe in my opinion.
It wasn't that Jacob 'didn't bow at Shep's feet,' it was that he was standoffish. Miranda didn't bow at Shepard's feet either but has a lot more fans than Jacob ever will, and it isn't just about the T & A. Once you get pass her ice queen exterior there is an actual person underneath, and she'll open up to Shepard. The same also applies to Jack, who can be quite hostile to Shepard early on but later lightens up, and reveals a lot about her background.
Jacob in contrast never has much interesting to say, and when he's expended all of his dialogue options, he basically tells Shep to **** off. While all the squadmates have a line of dialogue that indicates they've got nothing more to say at the moment, the others all have an excuse about being busy and aren't standoffish about it.

Kaidan is refreshingly normal so to speak. He chats you up about the mission, about the crew and uses the discussion of his past in order to explain how he sees things. Then it naturally developes into a romance if you let it. And even if a lot of people who like to diss him claim that he doesn't have personality, he actually does have it. And he doesn't sell it out just to brown-nose Shepard. I mean how he stands behind his own principles on Horizon.
Hopefully in ME3, now that he outranks Shepard, he will actually take the lead from time to time and not just brown-nose Shepard like a puppy.

That was really well put.
I believe Jacob would be a much more appreciable character in a novel where his standoffish personality wouldnt be directly offputting to the reader. Loner badass is actually a very loved achetype in comics and detective novels.
But as a player, I am personnaly annoyed that every time I feel like engaging with Jacob I get shut out. And there is no discernable reason for it. Jacob isnt a Krogan going through adolescence or a workholic ice quee. So he just comes off as moody. The whole thing clashes very much with his initial 'I hope you trust me Shepard' persona.
In short, Jacob is the kind of guy that you want to read about, not interact with. Hes not uninteresting, hes uninterested.
