I had a look at a microsoft site that lists compatiblilty for various games with win 7. I am hoping that this has been fixed with an update or such?

can i get the game running with my 64bit win 7 install?

The few folks puttering around this forum will be happy to help, but we need more information.  There is something not right with either how you've installed the game or with your system-- DA:O installs fine on Windows 7 64-bit.  

Dragon Age: Origins was launched, IIRC, a few weeks before or after Windows 7 was released back in 2009, so Win 7 is not ususally mentioned in documentation.

Check out the *READ FIRST* post pinned towards the top of this forum... it will show you what kind of info we need.

IF I had to take a wild guess, based on the scarce info at hand, I'd say it's either a) you've upgraded Windows using an existing installation of DA:O, which means you need to install, or you installed the game with one Windows account and are trying to play it with another.  DA:O works best in Win 7 when you're using an account with administrator privelages.

Post your complete specs, as outlined in that sticky, and we can speculate further.
