I agree that the intro is longer, I never said otherwise, and it is the intro where Shepard gets to talk more, yet out of all the lines Shepard says, only 8 times the player is asked for input?

In ME and ME2 out of all the lines Shepard says in the intro, all of them are user input.

No, they're not.

VS/Liara: "Shepard!"
Shepard: "Distress beacon ready for launch." ["autodialogue"]
VS/Liara: "Will the Alliance get here in time?"
Shepard: "[Choice #1]"
VS/Liara: "Joker's still in the cockpit. He won't [evacuate/abandon ship]. I'm not leaving, either."
Shepard: "[Choice #2]"
VS/Liara: "[Response to Choice #2, relents]"

[Evacuation cutscene]

[Shepard makes his/her way up to the bridge]

Shepard: "Come on, Joker! We have to get out of here." ["autodialogue"]
Joker: "I won't abandon the Normandy! I can still save her!"
Shepard: "[Choice #3]"
Joker: "[Response to Choice #3, acquiesces]"

[Normandy destruction cutscene]

[Title drop]

These numbers clearly show my point, and the origin of my concerns, regardless of ME2 featuring "some" auto-dialogue.

All right, time for some facts in here. I just took notes throughout the entire ME2 intro (Normandy + Lazarus Project sections noted separately and together, depending on your definition of "intro") and the ME3 intro alike. This is it;

ME2 Normandy Auto Dialogue Lines: 2
ME2 Normandy RPG Dialogue Lines: 3
Percentage of auto dialogue: 40%

ME2 Lazarus Project Auto Dialogue Lines: 3
ME2 Lazarus Project RPG Dialogue Lines: 13
Percentage of auto dialogue: 18% at most*
*"At most" since the -numerous- left side wheel options and/or the shuttle scene was omitted

ME2 Full Intro Auto Dialogue Lines: 5
ME2 Full Intro RPG Dialogue Lines: 16
ME2 Full Intro Auto Dialogue percentage: 23% at most

ME3 Earth Auto Dialogue Lines: 32
ME3 Earth RPG Dialogue Lines: 5
Percentage of auto dialogue: 86%

As you can see, this is skewed in ME3's favour in that I didn't count the ME2 shuttle scene, nor did I give any bonuses for all the left wheel side options, investigate options, nor did I give any subtractions for ME3's lack of a single choice with more than two options on the wheel. And even then, the numbers speak for themselves.

But if you so like, I can rephrase that:

In ME and ME2 out of all the lines Shepard says in the intro, the vast majority of them, when comparing it to ME3, are user input.

My impression with the intro level and its lack of interaction is that they had originally planned on doing a much more elaborate sequence involving Shep's legal woes and it just ended up going wrong somehow, they couldn't get it working to their satisfaction, and they sank too much time on trying to fix it. So they axed it and ended up having to do a quick and dirty revision that did the job of kicking off the story. Kinda like what happened to Caleston, where it got turned into the very basic Therum.

The problem is if you went all Paragon Shep you'd get your Spectre status reinstated and thus should, at least in theory, be above petty legal sanctions. What with the Alliance being a Council member and all now, wouldn't a sanction require the the agreement of the other 3 races?

Hate to say I told you so, but I told you so. I've been complaining about auto dialogue since LoTSB. The BDF defended bioware and they took it as fans loving it, do now we don't have control over our sheperds personality only plot choices. With LoTSB, arrival, the canon movies, Shepard is his own person now. It's painfully obvious that we don't have as much control over him as the last few games. Me3s demo alone makes me2s auto dialogue look like a cake walk. The lack of a devotee response on this issue is telling.
