The actual extended trailer is 1 minute, 38 seconds long whereas the video is 3 minutes, 35 seconds long. x)

The non-extended version was 1 minute, 24 seconds long, whereas the video itself was 2 minutes, 3 seconds long. So, if you do the math, this means the extended trailer really only has 14 more seconds of footage. Yet, you can tell it looks that much better, especially with the epic modified choir (you can tell they mixed both versions of the "Black Blade" song by Two Steps From Hell, one with an all-male choir, and the other with the female choir) and abrupt drops/stops.

Also, note how this ties to the original reveal VGA teaser from December 2010. (Due to included footage from that video) Does that mean, then, that this trailer has been finished since then and has been sitting on some hard drive(s), with employees waiting for this precise moment before releasing it? Or was it simply made much later, but made to fit with the original teaser? In any case, I think it's a shame they didn't include the entire footage from the VGA teaser, too, while they were at it!

I'm not sure where you're coming up with 1 minute, 38 seconds. Might have been a typo. It is right around 2 min, 38 seconds (ish) from the first shot of the fighters going overhead to the start of the logos and marketing info at the end.

Ah, actually, you are correct.

Uhm..actually, everyone WILL be in trouble. So far, as far as we know, only the humans are in trouble. You don't see the skies of Sur'kesh raining Reapers, for instance. The Citadel isn't under attack. If the second Council race and the Citadel are not under attack, it isn't unreasonable to assume that the others aren't either - at least, not under such a massive assault as Earth.

Your assumption is that everyone is under an attack the magnitude of the one falling on Earth. Which to me looks like merely an assumption, on which you draw some strong conclusions.

Palaven's surface is lit up like a Christmas tree. It looks very similar to the images of Earth. I feel like in order for it to make sense for the turians to leave their own world and help with Earth, they're just going to destroy Palaven and take it out of the equation. That to me is throwing them under the bus for the pro-human narrative.

Sur'Kesh looks beat up and Tuchanka and Rannoch both have Reapers on the surface already. Shepard might be able to clean up those problems, I just hope it doesn't come to a situation where they're being asked to leave their own homeworlds while they're still under imminent threat to save one that is essentially already lost.

I know this is all assumption, but it's hard not to see it that way with how the game is being advertised. I don't know what's going to happen yet, those are just my worries based on the initial marketing.

Unless you know Shepard finds a deus ex device that shuts down all reapers at once. But I like the way you put it, that would definitely cause some difficult decisions for players. Do they scurry all races over to Earth at the risk of losing their own strongholds and worlds or do we have to think of the greater good of the entire galaxy and leave Earth to its fate and take the Reapers on strategically. That would be great writing and I would be happy. Well, it would give the game much more depth, not make me happy, if I have to sacrifice Palaven to save Earth :crying:

Palaven, it's the only choice.

During the first half, did anyone else think of the famous Lyndon Johnson presidential campaign ad with the little girl picking the daisy and then the mushroom cloud goes off? Or am I just that big of a nerd?

Nice trailer though.

I actually found a favourite, the human to husk conversion, great scene.

Yeah, that was my favorite part too.  It'd make a cool gif.

The whole trailer seemed jumbled up. No sense of narrative to it. There is no excellent voice over the way the ME2 launch trailer had to piece it all together.

Plus I think a re-edit, even without a voiceover narrative, would benefit the trailer greatly.  Show the quiet parts at the start, the worlds shock of the attack and then the all out battle for earth at the end.

My image of the re-edit would have the scenes cut together like this

----------
ggirl playing with the toy ship with VO of the airforce radio

girl stops to look at the reaper landing

fighters then get blasted out of sky

pull back to show reapers attacking full forceshow full city destroyed

show slo mo of a husk being created and deployed

show the woman running from the husk

show the sniper killing the husk

husk jumping the guard by a mako

show the planet being attacked full force from orbit

fade out

see shepard approach the burnt toy ship

"Take"

show the ground forces moving in

"Earth"

show the 3 sequences with the normandy together and in order, dropping ordinance and firing the missles midair

"Back"

transition to ground explosions amid the foot battle

show the husks overwhelming the standard alliance forces

show shepard kicking a husk and the rest of the omni-blade/gun fight

then show the ground battle (including the bits with the Alliance soldiers I left out earlier) ending with shepard leaping at the turian husk
-------

(also as a Side note, did anyone besides me pause and notice that the Normandy is now the SR2-A (not just the SR2)? and is no longer red, but has blue accents to it instead? Does the 'A' mean it's back in Alliance hands now?

Liked the extended cut, Nigel Fishnchips definitely survived, probably by leaping onto a passing Reaper and headbutting it into submission.

That said the one thing I felt could have been added is the Reapers trademark dubstep scream/dustbin lids noise at the moment where it descends upon the little girl. It would have made the transition between that and the Shepard actionfest smoother I think, and it's an incredibly iconic part of Mass Effect by now.

I like how they tease us by panning the camera out at the exact moments the reapers laser beam moves to the direction of Big Ben

Yeah, me too! I think this was the trailer's inspiration for it as well.

*This* I would love the trailer to have been more like this, with some footage of the the other Squadmates kicking ass.

Also If we can't have a cinematic trailer with Femshep, could we at least get a cinematic rendered image or something, that would be really awesome.

I'm glad you liked my ideas.

All of the cuts I suggested are of footage already in the trailer, so it's not like the renderers would have to create new sequences.

Also, the music seemed kinda herky-jerky with starts/stops every time they put text on the screen which totally broke the momentum of the battle that we were watching. Constant, and persistent music throughout would help keep a sense of cohesion to the trailer.

The sequences in it are visceral and haunting and very, very crisp. My roommate jokingly asked "Is ME3 a game or a movie?" when he saw it. So that attests to the quality of the footage provided.

I think that while I enjoyed the trailer, it needs 1 final polish from an editing standpoint and it would probably be the best game trailer to date of any game created.

So why the hell does Earth have no defenses in the forms of fleets? I have yet to encounter any sci fi that would ever leave the home planet that unguarded.

Earth was very well-defended, but a Reaper fleet is hard to defend against, and why they blew right through said defenses.

Once again, Bioware is way too human-centric in this trailer. Not a single alien species is shown. It's kind of a letdown how the game has suddenly turned into a love affair of trying to save Earth. This is a far cry from ME and ME2 where we are constantly reminded that humans are but ONE race in the galaxy and that Shepard will need the help of the other races in the galaxy to face the Reaper threat.

I realize Bioware is marketing towards the herp-a-derp CoD community out there hoping to reel in additional interest in the game, but it's sort of an insult to long-standing fans of the series who have really been taken by the postmodern perspective of the franchise.

Here's to hoping it won't be like this in the game. Because if it is, I'm going to be sorely pissed.

But like you said, I know both of those things will be there in the game :) So I just find it somewhat annoying that people would pick on such stuff, or on the symbolism of Earth/humans with little reason.

Agreed. And hell, if we just want to refer to canon-- We all just spent the last two games being the most significant threat to the Reapers since, well we've never been given any information that they've ever been repelled. Given that, as they say, history is written by the victors, it's unlikely they ever have been. The reapers out and out told us that we're on their radar. Stands to reason that they have a bone to pick with humans now.

It's gonna be a wild ride. Bittersweet that Shepard's story ends with the trilogy but as long as Bioware isn't sick of makin this universe, I ain't sick of playin in their sandbox. I'll just name my ME4 guy Shepard and giggle like a child thinking I just pulled one over on em. ;)

You'd have to pull Zaeed's M8 out of his cold dead hands. When you ask him he'll tell you all about it. :)

Didn't get to see this on television (I'm not a zombie/Walking Dead fan), but watching it online was still awesome. I personally find there to be something special about watching/playing something with headphones on. It always seems to enhance the experience beyond what even a sound system can do...at least the sound systems I've had access to.

Deus Ex Machina device confirmed; Reapers attacking Earth alone number in the hundreds (several hundreds). Majority of the Alliance fleet is already wiped out (and very easily/quickly, too).

And so far, NONE of the trailers/promotional material have shown a single Reaper being even damaged by non-Reaper ships. The best we've gotten is a glimpse at Shepard wounding (maybe, it could just be a Hope Spot) a small Reaper on the surface (with orbital bombardment support).

So unless there's some "Just Add Water!" new superweapon that can be instantly installed to at least several ships, it's down to a Deus Ex Machina ending. I really, REALLY hope I'm wrong.

This happens, so that must mean this. No wait. THIS!

That was the biggest jump to a conclusion I've ever seen. Holy ****.
