Now before I continue, I've only played the multiplayer section of the
demo, not the single-player, but I feel that the weight penalties are
too severe in the game. I recall as a Vanguard having only a Mattock,
then adding a shotgun and then suddenly my power bonus/penalty, which
was about +50%, suddenly went to -40%.

I quite like the system
itself, heavier weapons and more weapons should impose a penalty, but it
seems too harsh at the moment, to me anyway.

Thoughts?

There's power upgrades to increase your weight capacity, also I believe higher weapon ranks reduces the weight of the weapon.

I think they've said you get more capacity in single player, since you can carry more than 2 weapons.

Level your person right and you wont have to worry about the weight penalties. Make sure you invest in your class passive powers before putting too many points elsewhere.

Passives increase weight capacity and reduce penalties .. weapons get lighter with better models and having more weapons VS having faster cool downs is a very meaningful trade-off that you have to deal with .. arming an Adept with only a single pistol will give you rapidly cooling down skills and make him/her a biotic killing machine capable of causing multiple biotic reactions/explosions in row and wiping out groups of enemies in an instant.

System is just fine and is really a great idea .. i'm also sure it will work slightly different in SP (i.e penalties won't be very severe .. but still there)

An Avenger X, if you use it exclusively, gives my Asari Adept +200% cooldown bonuses. Stasis spam takes on a whole new meaning with cooldowns that quick. There's something to be said for traveling ultra-light. Takes some getting used to, but allows higher levels to perform support more effectively. And honestly, the basic weapons are far from bad in the right hands.
