I've been enjoying MP mode so far, but this one has me confused. What happened to the M-5 Phalanx Heavy Pistol?

It used to have a laser sight, and behave roughly like the Carnifex does now, wheras the carnifex used to be inferior to the Phalanx. The laser sight was fun to use, now it's just back to generic scopes.

Why was this changed? Will it be possible to put the laser sight back on in the full game? It is still a powerful pistol, just not the one I remember loving so much. T_T

I'd be a happy kitten if someone could enlighten me.

Useless edit: Also, the sound is now less than satisfying. klipklipklip is not as cool as K-PEW! <_<

I agree. It seems a little...well I wouldn't say weak but..."light"(?) compared to how it used to be.

The laser sight is unlockable from boxes. I don't know if it's on demo or not.

The Phalanx was bad in ME2. Fun, but bad. Carnifax was superior.

All I can say now is the Phalanx seems epic my sexy infiltrator loves it.

If you want a pistol with the characteristics of the old phalanx (minus the laser ofc) use the carnifex. It's a 3 hit kill on Assault Troopers but the huge recoil necessitates slow firing. Judging from youtube anyway, I haven't been able to unlock it so far.

And I know the Carnifex is the new Phalanx (I have unlocked both). I was merely wondering why it was changed. Can't see a reason why.

To reflect what it was supposed to be on ME2, it has more dmg than the predator and more rate of fire than the carnifex.

doing exactly the same thing, engineer with phalanx only with damage mod and scope. would love to get X version though.

Scope > laser pointer IMHO. I like the new Phalanx very much, with dmg upgrade barrel and scope it is a beast.

The phalanx was awesome in ME2...You just don't know how to use it.

No, The phalanx is better...Learn to headshot with it and you'll see.

Carnifex did the same thing faster.

It's not about quantity of shots, it's speed. Sure, Phalanx beat the Carnifex one shot at a time, but the higher rate of fire on the Carnifex results in higher DPS than Phalanx.

Best way to use a pistol is aim for the head. It's not about preference. Carnifex has higer DPS than Phalanx, therefore you will kill enemies faster.

It's maths.

I'd bet that it was changed precisely because it was a "tweaked Carnifex" in ME2. In ME3 it was given a new identity of sorts, rather than being Carnifex 1.2.

I really like it so far.

Basically, it was too much like the carnifex. which is a hand cannon (the phalanx is a heavy pistol) they gave it more ammo, gave it a different noise and removed the laser sight modification by default. Now it is still very effective, but isn't a carbon copy of the Carnifex albeit with a laser and white paint.

If it means anything to you, I recall them mentioning ages ago in production that laser sights would become available as mods (possibly for pistols only), but that was so long ago and may have actually been cut/cancelled due to the addition of scopes. I don't know.

100% incorrect. The accuracy is slightly less than the phalanx (which is pinpoint when in cover) and it has insane recoil. The main point you got wrong is it's equally insane power, which is stronger, if not as strong as, a viper sniper rifle, and if provided with a scope, you can use it as a form of low-range sniper and will kill virtually anything unprotected with one to the head on up to silver difficulty. Of course this has its downside, ammunition is low and you'll do well to never stray too far from an ammo box.

Phalanx has a higher hit rat and accuracy. You miss more times with the Carnifex.

I hated how they changed the Phalanx. One could argue it's overall DPS and utility, but it was a DAMN cool gun to use with it's laser sight and power. It felt like I was firing a futuristic Magnum 500 with a laser sight.

I loved how I when I aimed at an enemies right and left shoulders one after the other, their bodes jerked violently before they dropped dead.
