I downloaded Mass effect from steam the other day, and it simply refused to start. I would click play and it would load, a process would show up briefly on my task manager, then it would just dissapear. I managed to find the launcher hidden deep in the recessses of my computer and attempted to use that. Again it would not do anything. It would load, the process would show up briefly, then it would just stop. There isn't even an error message, it just doesn't start no matter what I try. Am I doing something wrong,?

Okay I'll fix it.

1: A: PC
B: I downloaded it from steam (twice, I redownloaded when it didn't work the first time)

2A: Intel Core i72720 QM CPU @ 2.20 ghz (memory is 4.00)

B: AMD Radeon HD 6750M

C:Not sure in all honesty

D: Windows 7 Ultimate. (I use a mac, but have windows through bootcamp)

E: Not sure how to find this, but I believe it is 10.0

3: My game will not start. That's basically it. There is no error message, nothing. I'll click on the game and it will load for a second, and then nothing will happen. I can get to the launcher, but it won't start from there either. Plenty of other games, including origins work fine on my computer. It seems to be this game.

I thought Steam would have the latest patch included, but if it's not working you might try to check... If you can get to the first splash screen, choose configure - in the new window that opens, look under Mass Effect to the left > Game. Under versions, the game exe should be v1.02.

If you can't even get to the splash screen to open (or if you did and you have a version lower than v1.02), download the patch manually here - http://masseffect.bi...ates/index.html

If you already downloaded BDtS then that came with the latest patch anyway.  The first thing I would recommend if the patch isn't the issue is making sure your graphics driver is the latest version. Your computer manufacturer may insist that it's the latest version, but you will most likely find a more current version by going to the GPU's site and manually updating

First jkthunder: It's patched correctly I believe and my driver is up to date. Thank you for your assistance anyway, and if you have any more ideas please tell me.

Chimera2k6: If I figure something out I'll tell you, and can you tell me if you figure something out?

Jkthunder, thanks for the response! I've gotten the launcher to run from the ME directory, but I can't go any farther than that. I ran the ME config utility and verified that I do have v. 1.02 installed.

On a side note, I've tried to register ME1 to my BSN account, but I cannot find where to go to make that happen. ME1 isn't even listed as a possibilty for me in the "Register Games" section.

@Hamster: Absolutely!!

I was having the same problem earlier today. I was able to solve the problem by right clicking on my launch shortcut and selecting "Run as Administrator". After doing that once, it launched on subsequent attempts with no problems. I hope this helps.

Cheers.

Thanks, the problem is I can only run steam as an administrator, not the game itself.

I have the problem that ME3 won't start at all anytime my PC has gone to sleep.  If I reboot, ME3 starts OK.  If I drop out of the game, use the PC, then start ME3 again, it works.  I put my PC to sleep frequently because it sucks a lot of electricity with a quad core, pumped up AMD graphic card, 3 hard drives and two CD/DVD writers.  Its a heavy Dell XPS which I mod from time to time.  So it sleeps a few times during the day and all night.

I discovered that the ME3 bootup problem is ORIGIN.   If I use Windows Task Manager and kill the Origin process before starting ME3, everything loads and runs Mass Effect 3 just fine.

Hope this helps somebody

Just reinstalled my computer and installed ME1. And got this problem.
AreaFive´s solution works. Thx. :D

Find the file "MassEffectLauncher.exe" and run this as administrator.
This is located in the root of the ME1 installation folder.
