Yeah, so i am a Dragon Age noob for sure. Im still getting used to the tactical combat and i have managed to assign some tactics to my party members etc. I was just wondering if any, more experienced players had any suggestions for how to go about structuring my party? At the moment i am a human noble warrior who just focuses on strength with a sword and shield and i have Alistair, Morrigan and that red-head rogue in my party (cant remember her name) and im not very far through the game (i went to Redcliffe first and im doing that quest with the abomination at the moment). So, what other characters should i use in my party to get an even balance between strength and fun? At the moment the rogue doesn't seem to be very useful (apart from opening chests etc) but that Stern bloke just gets on my nerves and he pretty much hates me.
Actually, come to think of it, any advice in general would be appreciated.

Personally I go with a party that meshes with my characters personality so to speak since you really can't build a bad party. In terms of power gaming and efficiency a damage/CC mage and a healer/damage mage, a solid tank, and then an optional fourth for whatever the situation requires. Mage heavy area a archer rogue, large numbers an extra tank, whatever the situation asks for. As I said there is no way to build a bad party where it's impossible to get through.

Go to the cricle of mages and do the quests there so you can take wynne in your party.
Since you are a tank (if you choose so specialize in board and shield only and avoid dual wield and 2 handers talents, there's no reason to spread your talent points) drop Alistair and keep the 2 mages and rogue.

Thanks for the advice guys. I was thinking about dropping Ally anyway for maybe another mage; now that i know how to get one i will do that.
Is there any way i can get my rogue to automatically attack people from behind through tactics? I've been looking for it but can't seem to figure it out if it's even possible. I know i could control her in battle but i only like controlling my main and leaving the others to their tactics. Also, how do i go about stealing from people?
These may seem like basic questions i know but i am relatively new to this genre of gaming and certainly Dragon Age in general. Again, any help will be appreciated!

Just make sure u spec your mages with diverse spells each and u should be fine, just get frost tree on morrigan, with this much melee, u'll be shattering ppl like their's no tomorrow hehe. i also suggest u get poisonmaking on your main so u can throw the flasks u find all over the place as well to poison your weapons. every edge u can get is a plus,
OH and get Shale, best tank in the game.

A dual wield rogue takes a lot of micromanaging. I like playing them, but as my main character. Personally I prefer to build Leliana as a bard/ranger bow user as she starts with archery skills anyway. Then you can also use her crit shot to shatter frozen targets.
