LotR is just a tiny bit piece of a magnificent world and its stories. There is an Encyclopedia of Arda online... is there a Conan's?

DA:O won't be a classic game ... for this, it lacks too much.

Aaaaah yes.

And this: 640 KB main memory will be enough to do anything you would ever want to do. (Bill Gates)

Bad comparison ... but perhaps we all could understand what you mean if you elaborate this more?

Bill Gates once said, all the memory you could ever want would be found in 640 kilobytes. There was never necessary with more memory than this. Of course, now we have 8 gigabytes of memory.

Beware when using rhetorical devices online. I spent some time expecting a visit from the analogy police the other day... imagine my surprise when the simile police showed up!

Perhaps you should ask Bioware for an rpg where an ancient evil rises to threaten the world again and heros go forth to fight to save their world and you sell them supplies for their journey. That should break the mold for ya...

So, to summarize, you believe fantasy - by the nature of the genre - only has a singular theme?

Can I point to Baldur's Gate as an example of a fantasy game which didn't use this cliche? How about Arcanum?

Word to the wise, I wouldn't go around bragging about how uncreative you are,

Not really.  I mean sure, you can quibble over "ancient evil" versus "neo-evil" or something, but it's the same idea in a "newer" packaging.

I haven't played the game, but a quick look at the wiki hints it could be hammered into that mold with just a bit of reduction as well.

Personally I for one prefer Obsidians story telling over Biowares. Bioware have a habit of dumping the story heavily on you at the start, sending you down a narrow channel for a brief while before dropping you off kind of in the wilderness for most of the game, where the story seems to suddenly take a back seat until you're funneled down the ending path. Like for me, the threat of the darkspawn diminished as the game progressed, I rarely fought them, when I did fight them because I was more powerful I hammered them from one side of the map to the other. The focus moved away from the spawn, and they ride backseat for a lot of the game.

In comparison Obsidian often tell the story in layers, with more being revealed as you progress. The key issue seems always close to heart and drives the story throughout the game.

Couldn't have put it better myself and agree totally.

Oh man, I know that - so the man was wrong - the same man a few years later said that the internet is not important - so the man was wrong again.

I still think DA:O lacks the "spirit" and "special things" that make a game classic (DA:O is "too much main stream" in my eyes). You could have answered my question with at least one feature you think DA:O would qualify to become a classis game in 10 yrs or so.
