Most players I ran into don't use a mic and thats fine with me.

and the player that did happen to use his mic was raging at the team (bronze level btw) for stealing his kills and how we suck and are *********** and other colorful words that made me wish I could see who was talking in game so I could mute him

Yeah, it's quite a silent affair for the moment unless you use a mic, especially with the lack of text chat.

Almost like playing singleplayer!

I've never played a multiplayer game before because I'm terrified of playing horribly and letting my team down.  Mass Effect 3 is my first multiplayer experience.  I'm at a decent level, but I still don't play too well.  I hope I find some nice players next time, because I got mocked and yelled at in the last game.

Come on, it's my first time, I'm playing on bronze, and we completed the mission. No use in namecalling.  I think I'm going to turn the voice chat off until my skills improve :(

Yeah good idea.

If people are really caught up about doing well, they should organise a private team.

It's been very good in my experience on PC. There are some people whose playstyles I don't like (charging out from the upload circle for extended periods, etc.) but I have yet to run into any AFKers, or any mic-using players who have been anything but decent.

My worst experiences, such as they are, have been in lobbies. Sometimes people seem to have gone AFK without leaving a lobby, which means the game can't proceed until they are kicked - and a lot of people don't seem to have figured out the kick system. (Don't blame them, it took me a while to realize it's there. You have to click on the player in the lobby, then you get the option to vote to kick them.) Even if you can resolve it with kicking, it still takes awhile to get to that point, since it would be impolite to jump to conclusions and kick them when they might just want to spend some time leveling up or buying packs. (I echo the thoughts of another poster in some other thread who wanted to be able to see what people were doing while being unready - if anything - in the lobby.)

Edit: pkboo and anyone else seeking a friendlier environment: You might want to look for MP groups with the declared goal of a chill environment so you can build a friends list. For instance, on PC, you might want to check out this thread. For all platforms, there's a thread for each platform in this group.

The only things I can think of as far as unfriendliness in the demo goes is not reviving teammates and only one person having a mic in the group.

I had a guy revive me in a high-danger area, only for him to get knocked down right after I was revived. I ran out to recover shields so I could come back to revive him without dying again, but he got stomped. He was the only one with a mic and he got mad and called me a dick, but I couldn't explain myself. :(

I played a lot of matches so far and only once someone actually talked.
"Phantom"
"where?"
"behind you"
Usually it's pretty silent.

Playing on 360 and haven't had any problems with people using headsets . Most folks are keeping quiet but the ones who have been talking have generally been helpful and friendly . It makes a huge difference when everybody is communicating and co-ordinating attacks , chances of completion increase drastically

Playing with people on here has been great so far. My chances of getting through a all waves increases when I'm not playing with random people.

I'll chime in with my own two cents. Playing on the PS3 multiplayer demo by the way.

I have been having a fairly decent experience with players both with miss and without. It's actually surprising to me how supportive the teams are. People get revived, cover different directions, work on dealing with significant threats like the phantom or the engineer and in general work together really well with or without headsets. Heck I've even gotten praise for when I really have to come through and quick to respond in kind when others do the same. So in short, the multiplayer community for me has been awesome.

The best moments so far are when I was forced to solo a wave (due to being the last guy standing) to keep the match going and we won. But the one that topped it was when it was just me and another guy on silver going through all the waves and winning. That was so gratifying!

I have burned hours and hours on the multiplayer so far and will continue to do so.

I played with a guy last night and we managed to finish three or four games in a row, the last one just the two of us after the third guy dropped out. I enjoyed it so much I even sent him a message over live thanking him for the fun games and I never do that. It's like anything, sometimes you get good people sometimes you get douchebags.

I've played with nice people mostly. To add to what others said already, most of the times it's silent, as few people use the mic. Saying that, there was one game where I was the only one alive and had to finish off some enemies and out of the blue, some team mate (no one spoke till that point) suddenly says,'Watch your back!'. And true enough, there was someone sneaking up my back. I was startled a bit :P but it was really helpful in the end.
Come to think of it, I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that most people are quick to revive.

I've played a couple of games and was actually really surprised, both with myself and the other players, in a good way I should add.

I'd never played any mp apart from the occasional pvp in wow and now swotor, and have found this to be surprisingly similar. Not really any chat (Certainly not from me, hate hearing my own voice over a mic ), apart from one guy giving us helpful advise.
We all just got on with the job, stuck together as a team and ended up running two successful missions in a row with the same team which was good - really felt the camaraderie. If it wasn't at the end of a tiring day for me I would've played more.

I'd only just started so was the lowest level, died more than the others but helped out as much as I could as well. Was in Bronze, and the other players obviously realised I'd just started so didn't give me any grief.
All in all I enjoyed myself more than I expected to and will certainly put more time in once March gets here.

Is it the kind of thing similar to COD or Crysis, where you have to unlock weapons and stuff to use them, or does everyone get access to the same pool of weapons at the beginning?

I enjoy the latter. Unlocking them can be hard if you don't play mp very much.

Well, so far, if you take longer then 5 seconds to get your character ready, you get ****ed at, if you stand still, you get ****ed at, even though i was making sure that all the enemies were getting CC'ed with my adepts Singularities and wiped out with my warps.

when i stopped doing that, we started dying and then i got moaned at for that, so unless players just grow up, grow a pair and learn some teamwork, i don't see the mp part of this game succeeding at all.

I try to be friendly. Sometimes I try and talk in game, but either no one is listening, or my mic is funky. could be either or.

I agree most are either nice co-ops players or dont talk. I ran into 1bad player so far "Smithyboy6" and he was an ***hole calling us F-ing american, we suck, and repeated ran into the enemy to get himself killed, then after booting he kept rejoining. I do wish they do something like Rainbow Six has in there games once booted your removed from the Game until the game ends and returns to the lobby. Prevents people from constantly being an annoyance during game play.( Imagine some noob doing this well you have an Atlas/Phantoms running around). Otherwise the find most people to be pleasant. Would be nice to have something where you could search for lobbys with headsets only and what not. For players trying to be gold you really all do need them

I hang out at CDPR which is an oasis of calm compared to this place. And I hate to break it to you op, but the inclusion of MP is gong to make things worse. All you can do is grow a thicker skin about it.

I've only had one jerk, and his problem was that he would run off on his own and get downed, and while the rest of us were swarmed he'd bleed out and then **** at us until the wave ended. As soon as the game was over we instantly kicked him, and a really cool guy joined in his place a couple games later, so it worked out.

Generally me and two friends stick together, and randomly empty a clip or six into each other between rounds, so if it annoys you, hope you don't get stuck with us!

I've played mostly with randoms so far and the people I've played with have been pretty good so far. I've only had a couple of matches where people don't really work with the rest of the team.
That said I'll probably be playing more with people I know rather than randoms when the main game is released.

I like to talk on the mic, but no stress if others don't. Mostly about pointing out Phantoms or calling missile shots and the like.

there have been a few times when we have someone bail on us cuz we didnt revive him. Dude didnt seem to understand that if you gonna run off and play RAMBO..well...we assume you are Rambo and can take of yourself. You are probably in a terrible spot anyway!

EITHER PLAY LIKE A TEAM....OR DIE ALONE!
